I turned off vegetation by setting it to minimum. It makes foraging a lot more productive, particularly red mushrooms and blueberries.

Honey is also crucial when you get the cauldron and fermenter. Each stack of 10 can make a mead base that combined with other items act like potions, and you get 6 uses per batch. Very useful.

You've probably already found this out by now since this comment was from a year ago, but if you have the tankard equipped in your hand it fills that up for later use so you can get one more potion than the fermenter actually drops

I am in my first two weeks of playing the game, and have logged in over 88 hours. I know what you may be thinking, but I am 66, retired and stay home a lot. I was able to come to the same conclusions for what to be eating early game by reading the stats on the food. I have been learning how to build a house, and next will be going after a troll, or maybe even the first boss. Thank you for this short and to the point video, as it has confirmed that what I am doing is correct.

Handy, I thought the arrow on the map was for something else. Tip for sneaking, if you just stop moving, your stamina will first drop, but then return, so as long as you can duck behind a tree or something, you can sneak for longer. I didn't notice with my first character, but my second one, I went straight for a bow and started sneaking, because I noticed how troll gear had 'sneaky'. My second chars world, there was a troll cave right by the little beach spot I built a small roundhouse basic base at XD. It wasn't far from the main sacrifice circle, so I figured it would make a good spot to store stuff. The troll kept de-agroing on my char if I got too far away, so I basically made it bounce between the cave and the edge of my zone, got easy troll leather with my bow lol.

Just learning the game, and didn't even realize different foods worked better. LOL I noticed a meat and neck tail and a berry were better than two berries and a meat though. Didn't notice the stats on food till now. Thanks!

Very important: You should only eat when exploring, there are no reason to eat while base building or item manegement at your base

Eat when roofing in case you fall. Eat when tree cutting incase a log falls on you. Keep food handy at the base / in inventory for when your base gets raided.

I recommend to eat cooked meat, carrots, something easily replenished while working on your base at all times you are not afk. The additional health for falls, as has been mentioned, and ESPECIALLY the additional stamina while building/chopping/farming/Terraforming are immensely useful, time saving and help general quality of life. Best to always be prepared for an ambush as well. Imo.

Eating at base is still good for surprise raids early game. Don't want to be caught at 25 health with valley or forest attacks.

In my quick anicedotal trying it didn't seem to be true. You need to be sneaking, and you need the animal to not see you, but wind didn't seem to matter at all.

It's confusing that it's like a wind vane, so it's the opposite direction, or pointing to the wind source. I wondered why the deer were getting spooked! Derp on me.

Just picked this up again. I can’t remember much but I know in the very beginning the mushrooms and things didn’t respawn which was really annoying in terms of setting up a base. I wonder when they changed that I had no idea till now and this video is 2 years old

I'm just imagining a video someone is gonna do with a whole lot of Bees with Bee Hives and Honey Farming. Because Honey is so delicious and it's so easily farmed. Just have to get them Queen Bees first. Which means running around and really exploring the map for abandoned houses.

I typically don't run tails and meat together unless I'm going to fight. I tend to munch on the plants just to add a bit of extra health in case I walk into a fight that's a bit tough.

Queens jam takes a LOT of berries,, I never make it except for boss battles or emergencies. Necks are a bit rare so I always hit them whenever I see them, early game. I do agree, save up your mushrooms and berries for further cooking and mark them on the map.

If you are going to sneak up on a deer and kill, consider putting on a knife instead as it has X10 "backstab". In addition, the alternate attack (middle mouse button) does a massive amount of damage - good if you come across a top tier deer with more hp.

I'm in the late game and still eat berries and honey most of the time. When I'm just farming, collecting wood/stone, or building my base I usually eat honey + cloudberry + sausage/turnip stew/lox meat. I don't want to be consuming anything that takes much effort to obtain when I don't need it. Honey and cloudberries are virtually infinite and this provides me with enough health to survive a couple hits from a ferling or mosquito. I only eat better foods like lox pie, serpent stew, fish wraps, etc when I'm doing something very dangerous. Exploring I might eat sausage + lox meat + turnip stew.

I need all the combos that can be make beginning to mid game, where I'm at... though I get you say no mushrooms or raspberries... how about the Queen Jam and the Carrot Soup? What's a good 3rd, can they be combined? Idr!

Carrot soup is great for the stamina boost it gives, and carrots should be saved for that purpose (gather all the seeds you can in the black forest) Another good third option is the yellow mushroom, it gives 20 health, 20 stamina but is a 1 HP per tick, you find them all over the crypts. They can be used in the stamina meads, but if you got carrot soups, the stamina mead isn't such a concern.

I can´t find any mushrooms or barries anywhere endless running around , found few bushes but otherwise nothing , what can you feed boars that you have tamed for example? And how on earth did you get your base like that?? :) Are those portals?? ....

Honestly, slow down and walk through meadow biomes, they’re not too hard to find. Sometimes they spawn with 6 or more in a spot. Those spots I mark.

I also find myself going out by day and then returning back to my base before it gets dark, is this a mistake when exploring? do mini shelters help protect you out in nowhere? And then progress further on exploring after Zzzz? Didn´t expect this game to be so complex and well rounded in details, that I spent more time on youtube watching how things are done then playing lol... Thanks!

Real time but I think you have to be playing. otherwise there is no timer running when the game is not on. Not unless you have some dedicated server to keep things running 24/7

queen's jam uses a lot of strawberries and you need strawberries for healing potions so it might be better to save your strawberries for potions and not use them on queen's jam

Depends on how many patches you have available to forage. My seed's starter island is HUGE, and even has a swamp biome on it. There's enough raspberry patches near my starting area to fill 4 stacks of 50 per forage at least.
