I feel like bf is that perfect biome that noone will redo in any way if say the game was to be reimagined somehow. I know it's just me probably but if any biome makes its way from being scary at first to turning into a perfect place to live and stay there after you've conquered it, then imo it's a perfect one.

i totally agree with that. in the beginning, black forest was indeed a place that striked fear on us with the occasional troll sightings, skeletons chasing us with their bronze gear against our primitive flint pickaxes, shamans poisoning us to death and brutes crippling us with a single hit, and after all those dreadfulness, i like how in the later game it just turns into a safe refuge next to harder biomes like the swamp and plains where we retreat into when the fight becomes overwhelming. what a transformation.

I feel like the sailing enemies would be kind of that "cursed problem" with how Valheim goes about interaction with water at the moment. They'd either have to be "not a challenge at all" kind of weak or otherwise they'd be a frustrating encounter as you could get your ship destroyed, your precious iron sinking down to the bottom to be accessed never again, then you'd have to get back sailing to where you were before to recover items and pray that you don't get beaten again in the process. Additionally I really hope that the activity patterns that are present in boars, greydwarves and fullings aren't something that's returning to the game over and over and it's gonna be reworked. In the sea I feel it would be super frustrating to fight an enemy like that I feel

Might be a long comment, but I think I got a point. Something that always made Valheim stand out is an eerie and atmosphere, unease/fear of the unknown. Being able to shelter yourself in safer places creates a very accomodating relief even after many playthroughs. Minecraft used to have this feel when nobody understood the game a decade and a half ago, and Valheim managed to bring this rare feeling back. I agree with your placement of Ashlands. It could've been a perfect biome if it was more desolate as shown in the trailers, each encounter building a sense of anticipation. Unfortunately, too many npcs rush to trouble you on your first encounter. You simply don't have time to process your thoughts. This is Doom series, not Valheim. It also missed out on the opportunity to do more storytelling. Mistlands was spot on. I wasn't sure I was playing Valheim when I first saw a Seeker soldier ambush a Dvergr settlement. The game was once again shrouded in mystery, and I had to discover a new world with its own lore. It's very low on npc density, but you spend time building up a sense of caution. Swamps is something I disagree with for this exact reason. I think that the biome is a bit underexploited in terms of features, but the fact that you have to travel by boat and don't know what to expect from such a gloomy biome for the first time makes it excellent. Personally, I built most of my bases in the swamps. I really enjoy being shielded right in front of danger.
@voidtalongaming4637Ай бұрын
Also add that the Putrid Hole was a massive disappointment compared to the Infested Mines and Frost Caves which are hands down the best dungeons. The Fortresses are a cool concept that after taking 1 down seems like they will be more slogs of kiting combat than other forms of challenge. The propensity of Ashlands to go from a combat with 1 Morgen into a Morgen, Askvin, 3 Twitchers, 2 Warriors and a Marksmen while a 2nd Morgen or Valkyrie is tromping its way over is... too common. What is an otherwise beautiful biome and potentially interesting exploration is quickly brought down by how much combat there is. A more prevelant warring faction between those that guard Fiddleheads and Vines (Dvergr) and the Ashlands Charred could have been interesting but the 2 Dvergr are just destroyed by the Biome's powerful foes. Sadly unless you tame a 2* Askvin, they will die so fast in combat it's almost not worth taming (a common complaint I have with Tames). My only gripe with Mistlands is the sheer number of "drain your whole stamina bar playing hippity-hoppity" cliffs there are. I feel the Black Forest does the best job of vertical mix ups and felt that a nice blend of more open areas with small hills (Meadows), more dense thickets (Black Forest) with marshy low-lands and high-cliffs (Swamps and Mountains) all shrouded in mists would have made Mistalands even better to explore and overcome.
@TheNoobMaster_66Ай бұрын
@@voidtalongaming4637thanks for your input. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the developers stated many times how Black Forest, the ideal biome in their vision, was the inspiration for Ashlands. Unfortunately, rather than inspiration it seemed more of a cliché to follow. My observation is they took troll cave + burial chambers and turned it into the putrid hole whose key item is molten (surtling) cores and a morgen (troll). They took monuments of torment as Greydwarf spawn nests. I can see the intent was to make it slightly more challenging than the Black Forest by "scaling" the game towards endgame tiers of weapons , but it turned into a game of cheese mechanics due to how tanky, slow to kill and fast to allure the enemies are. The challenge of the biome is mitigating the constant pressure from pesky npc spam, which is not fun. I haven't built anything in the Ashlands besides taming pens because my structures simply get destroyed as I have to deal with too many npcs in the process. The game doesn't incentivize building there as the materials are actually quite easy to get, (including fortress gemstones once you know how) and you can teleport anything. You are also allowed to build inside an indestructible fortress, which is the final deal-breaker to building. Another thing to point out is the inventory. In case adding a seventh biome wasn't reason enough to tweak the inventory, they added numerous pointless decoration materials such as Askvin skeleton or charcoal sap. Everything in the Ashlands is just *annoying* or *pointless*. Building a new ship is pointless due to the new portals. Sailing past pointy rocks for the first and only time is also just annoying. Dealing with npcs is feasible if you are prepared, but it's also just annoying trying to constantly leverage your stamina/eitr levels. Doing the same fortress over and over is annoying. Building is pointless for reason I stated earlier. Collecting the fire sword is pointless since gemstone weapons stand out over it. Managing your inventory is annoying. Ultimately, developers have been extremely out of touch when it came to providing quality content. There's even rumours that they outsourced Ashlands development, which makes sense considering how spot on they were just an update earlier. I hope they rectify by reworking and, preferably, adding more depth to certain mechanics like they did with Bog Witch. And to comment Mistlands stamina issue, I personally always used lightweight sets such as Fenris, was equipped with stamina meads, so I never found it to be a problem when I did proper pathfinding.

@@TheNoobMaster_66I didn't like mistlands. Tbh it's hard for all the wrong reasons. Fall damage, visibility, being wet etc. Fall damage can be remedies later with the cape but visibility is always an issue unless you're building torches consistently which is just annoying tbh. Black Forest is still by far the best biome imo. I like Ashland's outside of the performance and the constant flow of mobs. I agree with most his critiques about Ashland's but you cannot take away from how epic it was to sail into Ashland's for the first time. That is pure epicness.
@TheNoobMaster_66Ай бұрын
@@edgybravo4287 I agree, you need a taste for hardcore to want fog in your Mistlands. I myself have modded it out as it is a significant tradeoff in both visibility and looks of the biome. If I were Irongate, I'd either make it optional in the settings or allow the player to gradually get rid of it, just like terraria allows you to get rid of corruption or crimson. Black Forest is definitely the most suitable biome for everything aside from its high instance count. It is most balanced in playtime, difficulty and features, and nothing feels out of place. Really wish Valheim was optimized to run 2-3x as efficiently, which I'm making the assumption it could under proper optimization. I prefer not to watch walkthroughs so as to not spoil my experience, so my first way in was quite literally "rocky". Luckily I had at least 10 wood to constantly repair my ship. Otherwise I wasn't so sure I was going to make it at all.
@tmonkey3323Ай бұрын
@@TheNoobMaster_66 i agree with you on some things, but personally i never had issues with building in the ashlands or with there being too many enemies, you just need to focus more on building defenses and being prepared; that brings me to the next point which is that building inside a fortress is not required or makes building elswhere pointless, its more like a reward which lets you finally build something that is easier to defend, but most of the time you will also need to build smaller outposts elswhere and i dont get how you expect a game which attempts to be challenging to not be somewhat annoying, and i also prefer having fortresses instead of just another generic dungeon that the previous biomes already had only with different enemies and loot

Pleasantly surprised to see soo much love for the Mistlands. I get the frustrations people have with it, but delving into the mist always feels like an adventure. Between the scattered visibility and difficult terrain, traveling small distances can feel like a long journey, but the atmosphere, from the art design to the implied lore to the somber soundtrack, really make it stand out in comparison to the more mundane (albeit beautiful in their own right) biomes that precede it. I think I would rank the Ashlands a bit higher (definitely ahead of the swamp, and maybe ahead of the mountains) for similar reasons as the Mistlands. It's just so bleak and imposing, but so full of personality, and so rewarding, but otherwise I think this ranking is pretty much spot on.

My list is below. My criteria is uniqueness, fun, music, and how interesting and annoying it may be. 9. Deep North: A bit unfair as you said, there is nothing, but it will probably be top 3 once content is released. I hope to see some crazy cool magic weapons, as well as the winter child in the runestones and the dream. 8. Ocean: It's just... Boring. Sea serpents, useless leviathans? That's it. What I would wanna see you ask? Some kind of caves. Maybe you could find little islands for some kind of sunken cave entrances. And there you could find content like some kind of crazy Octopus boss, the boss I would want to see for the ocean. 7. Swamp: Swamp can be very annoying. First, I don't like the theme of the gross biome, and also, it is unbelievably annoying. You can get swarmed by like 10 Draugrs, and tons of other stuff in the biome is annoying. You also always get the wet debuff, which sucks so much. The music is also dull, the only one that is even good is Bonemass. And I like the Bonemass fight, but for me that is the only fun part. And I don't know about the bog witch yet, so I can't say anything about that. 6. Meadows: This biome is pretty boring progression-wise, but the biome itself is quite something special. It is such a chill relaxing biome, with calming music, and beautiful views throughout all of it. That is why I put it above swamp. 5. Plains: Plains is a good biome. I just put it here because I think the other biomes are better. I can still remember the time my family and I played through, and my Mom went in to this biome not knowing what it is, and there comes a Deathsquito ambush. This biomes enemies are also really fun to fight. 4. Black Forest: The black forest is just good. I love the look of the biome, the trees are really good, and really give the biome an amazing feel. A new players first Troll I agree is the best thing ever. I still remember exploring the new biome, and then the Troll comes in, and kills me. This biomes music is also so Iconic, and really amazing. The amount of Greydwarves may be annoying, but you can get over it, you can have some fun battles. Also the Elder is fun and has absolutely sick music. 3. Mountains: The Mountains are an almost flawless biome. The only one I can think of would be the steep cliffs and climbing it. But then there are the amazing things, like the fun weapons such as Frostner or Draugr Fang, the fun fights with wolves all the time, and bats, Spazzy's Favorite enemy in the game 100%, and cultists in the frost caves, and the amazing battle with Moder. Moder has by far the most unique boss fight and music, and the most fitting for the boss for sure imo. 2. Mistlands: The Mistlands is soo underrated. The theme was unexpected, but I liked that about it, it is such a mysterious biome, and the mist is just spooky. You never know what you will suddenly run into. Seeker jumpscares get me every time when they jump flying out of the mist to fight you. It has my favorite general Biome music in the game, it is so mysterious and gives an ominous vibe. Also one of the biggest advantages it has, is the weapons. Oh my god when I first found magic in the game, I was absolutely shocked. The Staff of Frost is my favorite weapon in the whole game. I love the Mistwalker too, I just love Ice magic and Weapons in games. But also, FEATHER CAPE, NO MORE FALL DAMAGE YAY. 1. Ashlands: The newest biome for me easily takes first place. I did hate sailing there at first, but then I got used to it (yea what am I on about??) Once you land and place your portal, you can start the epic fights against massive armies of enemies. The Ashlands has a really good and sad backstory to the biome and civilization that once lived, and it's represented by the charred, and the ruined buildings. I love the weapons, but the Dyrnwyrn is unfortunately so disappointing. It is worse than a lot of the other weapons, such as the axes with any gemstone. Oh and speaking of that, I love the lightning berserker axes. Second favorite melee weapon in the game. I also love the look of the Embla armor, as well as the new amazing Magic weapons. Fader is an incredible fight, with awesome music and fun vibes, and he is sooo deadly with his spikes. When my family and I fought Fader, our portal was far far away, and his spikes reached it when we were respawning. The spikes can kill 100 loxes in like a few seconds. I've seen that with cheats. Also the lava looks incredible. This game has by far the best lava in any game I've played, nothing comes to even a close second. Most games I've seen lava will look like orange juice that kills you and is hot, but Valheim lava is like a scheme of the warm colors + black, it slowly moves like molten rock, and does enough damage to make sense. The Ashlands for me, is the best biome, but will probably be beaten by Deep north as It comes out, Hopefully around Christmas 2025 or early 2026. This is my list, It took quite some time to think, but yea. Edit: Also I forgot to mention how I pranked my dad with Ancient metal in the Ashlands! Also content for what "Ancient metal" is: Remember in the placeholder ashlands how you could find Flametal with no use? Well it still exists in the game and is now unobtainable, but I still had some from when we played through the mistlands, so I took it to our smelter chest, and my Dad was so confused when he first saw it. It was soo funny! XD

Yeah, bronze armour isn't really worth the trouble, particularly when it has a significant move speed penalty compared with troll armour. You're going to be fighting and killing trolls anyway, so you may as well use the troll hides to make gear that would otherwise go to waste, and use the bronze for tools and weapons. I'm into Valheim and i personally go with this (Note this is both practical and gameplay reasons): #1 Plains (namely a better meadows with better gear, not only is it really good for base building but also is the best place to farm with also 2 required plants that can only be farmed in this place and get the best items for the entire game, plus it's not a drag to play. Biggest downside is that it doesn't have a secondary armor or underground structures but other than that it's really good) #2 Ashlands (I know certain people hate the biome but personally it's my second favorite, not only is it visually good and has diverse set of enemies but also has straight foward progression unlike mistlands. Plus you feel heavy metal with this place. Though my criticism with it is that ashlands mobs drop too much useless junk and the fortresses are disappointing to say the least but at least good for getting a free base. That's all) #3 Meadows (possibly the most beginner friendly and best place to build base, it teaches an lot and it is the most safest biome to be. My big criticism is that it doesn't offer much unlike plains but it gets the job done.) #4 Black Forest (difficult to me to rank, on one hand its visually and most memorable location in valheim and the ingredience is one of the most important in the game, on the other hand there's annoying greydwarves that drop too much chunks and getting bronze is pain, otherwise it's a nice biome) #5 Mountain ( Mountain from the top doesn't have anything too much to offer, getting up and Frost damage isn't as pain and the enemy variety is just 3 mobs. The frost caves meanwhile is one of the best underground structures in the game and while the chest is disappointing, it does offer alternative for bronze and iron and it's like the only way to get fenris hair. Otherwise average with something lacking) #6 Swamp (unlike other people I think it's meh, , the difficulty I don't mind with being wet 100% of the times and the progression is far shorter than black forest. Overall just there. #7 Mistlands (probably my biggest problem with the mistlands is that the progression takes forever especially when trying to find dungeons and skulls. It's one of the more important biomes to be especially for farming mushrooms and sap but the problem usually comes with gjalls just blowing up everything so it's counter productive. Plus the terrain is just a chore to explore and the mist being either really bad or tolerable due to enemy visibility. Overall my least favorite biome. #8 Deep North (unfinished biome but I like the icebergs and it's nice to build based. Overall when deep north update gets released it will change my mind. #9 Ocean (arguably the most lacking biome so far, the entire point of the ocean is that it's supposed to be explorative but I find it to be having nothing. Sure there's the sea serpent and leviathans but it needs more like enemies, boss and sea caves just to name a few.

Also using trolls to mine nodes completely invalidates the first boss which is hilarious. 2. Mistlands - Introducing Magic into the game, a phenominal soundtrack, new weather patters, the introduction of a non-hostile NPC faction. The mist can be annoying but only adds to the rush when you find something or when enemies emerge from it. 3. Meadows - The place where everything starts and where you most likely will build your main base before starting an end game base in the plains. It's the foundation that all the rest of the game is built on. Would be higher if there was actually something challenging to complete here. 4. Plains - The meadows but with a difficulty spike with a good range of enemies though the lack of a dungeon is a bit of a let down. A great place to set down an end game base. 5. Swamp - The first time you will actually think to use meads and where the game starts to get properly challenging. Iron is a pain to get but is rewarding when you have it. Great range of hostiles to fight from leeches in the water, skeletons & dragur on land, wraiths in the air and the memorable encounters with Abominations. 6. Ashlands - Has a phenomenal entrance with epic music, a new water based hostile mob but when you hit the mainland it's just a slog of constant enemy spawns, resource grinding and terrible performance if more than one person is there. 7. Mountains - The place you go when you need to unlock gear to survive in the plains. A good range of hostiles but ultimately not a place you stay in for a great amount of time. Find silver, find a 2 star wolf, craft the gear and then you're gone. 8. Ocean - The only reason you go here is to get to somewhere else which it itself invalidated by the unlocking of portals, especially the new Ashlands portal that can now transport previously blocked items. It's an obstacle instead of a biome. -- Deep North - Cannot be graded as it isn't in the game yet, basically just the mountain biome at this point.

The Mistlands has so much potential. I don't mind the mist but there needs to be a way to permanently remove it eventually. One of the best parts of Valheim is the beautiful scenery of each biome and you're robbed of that in the Mistlands because you can't see more than 10 yards in front of you. I think it's an interesting mechanic to have, but there should eventually be like a head piece you can craft that allows you to see through the mist and just totally eliminates it.

I enjoy the MIstlands, but admit I have an addon that increases the range on my wisp light. My favorite to least favorite would probably go Meadows (music and chill of it, and best place to build), Mountains (sad we don't spend more time there), Mistlands, Plains, Swamp and Black Forest. I hate getting constantly overrun by Grey Dwarves, it's just so annoying. Edit: I forgot Ashlands, it'd be between Swamp and BF for me, the tediousness of constant adds spawning is .. rough. But the boss battle places it above BF.

They definitely need to add a diving mechanic or something along the lines of that. Be able to dive for wrecked ships for loot. They also need to add more animals in the ocean like whales and sharks that you can hunt and get pelts from for either gear or decoration and meats for foods. I think the ocean can be a top tier biome if they did more with it

Looking at the ocean's instance count is a bit horrendous considering you can't see any of that hah. Game definitely needs a balance between being able to dive and requiring a ship to cross high distances. Some ocean caves would be nice imo

Ocean is indeed pretty empty but it's actually a potential good thing. Not to say that it doesn't lack content, but I'd personally not see it overdone way too much in matter of things we do there. I personally see sailing as a moment of rest and chill (and lots of opportunities to bitch with friends about how wind keeps blowing in our faces while we still don't have Moder's power). It adds some to that up and down mechanic of action in the game. But I'd totally love to be able to find more resources there and what not

I got to the mistlands and the magical lightning sold me holy. While yes the fog and mountains be annoying, one can be solved with stamina food and the other makes area without fog that much more special. Can’t agree more with this video honestly, hope I enjoy the ashlands. I think the ocean could use a very rare boss encounter, like a kraken along with more mob spawns, feels empty with the rare serpent. Something you can run from or fight if you want. Also, give us more boat options, first in mind would be variations of boats. A boat that's faster with less cargo space, a boat that has more cargo space but slower, a boat with more hp but less cargo space.

Exploring the mistlands was a big challenge when the content was released and after acquiring the ashland's best gear it's still quite risky to venture into the mist. IMO ocean should be a biom that gradually scales in dificulty. Based on distance from Sacred Stones should be more and more threcherous (and rewarding): More serpent spawns Occasional small island/rock/shipwreck with flying creatures (vulture-like). Visible from afar, but deadly if unprepared. Stronger winds and bigger waves, and bigger effect on ships (take damage over time if the ship leans too much) And my biggest problem with ships is that they are balanced around using portals for everything except metal. They should have 4x cargo capacity if you disable protals in options. I'd also love some side-grades in ship choice: Byrding - extra cargo space, but slow rowing Snekkja - small, fast rowing, manoeuvrable Knarr - best cargo space, slow rowing Skeid - very long and clunky, but the fastest both rowing and sailing

With black forest 2nd And mountains 3rd only because of my love for frost caves ❤️ Would love to see them put more content throughout the whole world though, and not just the deep north with their final 1.0 update. Especially if it is content you have to return to biomes with items acquired at late stages of progression. (Mistland and beyond) This way we can have more to look for and return to feeling achieved as we sail through the world towards ashlands and deep north. Sadly as it is now, we mostly ignore the rest of the world in favor of only the most recent biome in our progression. Been some great suggestions on the discord ❤❤❤

Or our stamina drains within range of their songs.

It's funny how much people hate the swamp. I mean, I do too but it's easy to deal with. Blunt weapon, poison mead and your hoe and suddenly the swamp is 80% less painful. I do agree with one point in particular about the meadows: it's good for a biome to have things you can't use until later. I sincerely wish new biomes brought recipes and build pieces that required old ingredients a bit more so things like our boar breeders and carrot farms didn't feel so superficial in the face of newer content.

Regarding the meadows ship shaped stone burial sites. A pick is NOT needed. A simple hoe is all thats needed. Treasure chests are buried shallow. Fine wood. simply cut trees when able to fall on for extra damage, then roll logs into repeatedly as needed against oaks. Again, using a hoe to raise level or lower the ground to assist in rolling logs to assist in more damage vs the tree.

I've not gone through the Ashlands yet, but of the ones I've dealt with, I think for me it's mostly a question of which biomes do I want to "get through" in the progression curve and which do I want to spend some time in and properly enjoy. As well for some of the earlier ones, which biomes do I enjoy returning to after the fact. Swamp is definitely the worst for "getting through" as it definitely feels like a slog, after reaching the silver age and acquiring weapons that do spirit damage it does get a better, but it can also be a pain to find a piece of swamp "big enough" to have useful content in sometimes, as you get random splodges or thin slivers too small for crypts, spawners etc. And whilst I keep planning on building a treehouse base there, I never seem to do so for one reason or another. Iron armour is also quite expensive for what it is, especially given how much iron gets used going forwards. I love the vibe of the mountains, but again it's a biome I "get through" and it's not really somewhere I often build a meaningful base in, maybe a little FOB around a portal in an abandoned hut. Silver unlocks a lot and the cold resist cape is more game changing than it appears (no cold effect at night for example) a lot of the silver tier weapons are just so expensive. Other than frostner & the bow, I rarely craft any other silver tier weapons. Meadows is alright, but I find I rush it these days to get to the better resources, and I don't really take the time to appreciate it anymore. Black forest is a really good time early game, but once you get to about mountains/plains I find it starts to drag, and greydwarves just become a nuisance. I'd probably have mistlands then plains at the top. Both make a hell of an entrance and you get a serious feeling of accomplishment going from the "mad panic" phase to feeling like you're able to survive by being careful, up to being able to basically bully half the things in the plains with higher tier gear. The bug spray potion is a great addition, but I find it being locked behind needing 3 groupers a little frustrating, 1 grouper for a smaller number per batch might be better.

Tbh i would rate black forest lower. Although relaxing to play, I think the greydwarfs designs are too similar to the greylings. The lack of taming animals, the bronze/copper grind, felt a little tedious. The environment didn't feel eerie enough as a step up. During my first playthrough I remember just wandering into the black forest without fear. The swamp on the otherhand was such a step up but I really like how you are rewarded for venturing out into different play styles. Cooking, potions, different weapons, approach towards the enemies etc. I do agree a item to prevent the wet debuff would be so good. Maybe a potions or part of the root armour set/set bonus.

Mine is 8- Ocean; There's pretty much nothing there, unfinished biome that will hopefully get a complete overhaul one day. 7 - Ashlands; Simply unfun, buggy, mob spam. Performance is abominable here, the grind is horrific and every second I spent in this biome was a second I hated my existence. 6 - Mistlands; Simply unfun, too much mist, too much elevation, water everywhere and without mods in solo your inventory will clog in moments in this biome as there's SO many items. The biome is visually appealing however and the ambiance is amazing, I just wish they added mechanics to the game to compliment this biome, like a grappling hook and a swimming system overhaul. 5 - Black Forest; Not really a whole lot going on here, other than Burial Chambers and Trolls there isn't much this biome offers in terms of gameplay other than farming copper, tin, thistle, blueberries and core wood. Wish it had more content than just being a farming biome as the biome does have nice atmosphere but after I'm past copper I never have any drive to come back. 4 - The Meadows; A great starter biome, not a whole lot going on because there's not supposed to be, beautiful and peaceful, great place to peacefully build bases, wish it had more wildlife. 3 - Mountains; A good initial challenge, have to deal with the cold to survive and have to watch out for ambushes, has my favorite caves in the game and I find exploring the biome to be fun, silver being buried under the ground is an interesting mechanic and challenge, could use more content like mountain goats and a crystal cave to farm crystals. 2 - Swamp; Has a metric ton of content compared to the Meadows and Black Forest, the biome is both easy and difficult, easy once you know what you're doing and hard if you don't, the Hoe will be your best friend here. I like the atmosphere, like the enemies, I think it has the perfect level of challenge. I like this biome because it teaches you by punishing you for not using everything at your disposal, this biome teaches you the importance of Meads. The only issue with this biome is the crypts, which I think need a complete rework as they're quite buggy with broken pathfinding and encourage unholy amounts of cheese. Wish it had giant toads, because toads. 1 - Plains; Pretty much Meadows 2.0, enemy camps and raiding parties everywhere, giant bugs, giant pillars, Lux, lots of new cool items and my favorite part of the biome, Tar pits, I think its mechanics are one of the coolest things in the game. Wish there was a dungeon or something like it in this biome, perhaps even more wildlife creatures.

@@SpazzyjonesGaming I would counter as a fellow swamp enjoyer, the wet debuff is annoying yes but not a biome ruiner. I find the low, almost brooding and foreboding sense coupled with the jump in difficulty to make the Swamp almost more endearing. Terraforming is almost never useful in any other biome as a navigation tool. The Swamps music is very low/bass range so some speakers may not pick it up very well. - Abombinations are a great set-piece and I feel occupy the same niche as the Troll in combat, they are easy to fight if you know how but not easy to fight if you have buddy enemies with it. - Draugr are a nice upgrade from Greydwarves who's meandering and circling is so obnoxious people have modded it out (only to see the same behavior return in Ashlands with the Twitchers, which I count as a negative against Ashlands). - Iron Grind is a pain, but significantly less painful than Bronze. That said, I do wish Muddy Piles were faster to mine through or used less durability, having to go out and repair 2-3 times for 1 Sunken Crypt is not enjoyable. - The Additions of Muddy Piles under the swamp only located by the Wishbone I feel is a lost opportunity for treasure hunting or even other biome resources if it requires the Wishbone (also we have no Wishbone material in Plains, Mistlands or Ashlands; another lost opportunity. - Oozers and Slimes are the sticking point, they are not really enjoyable to fight either requiring range (a valid strategy) or thwacking away with a Mace M3 or Atgier M3. - Wraiths are a great night-time addition in risk v reward and progression. I wish the Fenring at night in the Mountains offered similar progression with actually dropping their Hair/Claws, but I've never gotten them. - Treehouse bases are a fun challenge and the Swamp is the only biome to offer the ability with it's indestructible trees. Granting base builders a new option. If I would offer ways to improve the Swamp: 1: Muddy Piles would be discoverable without the Wishbone, maybe they stick out of the muck like an island or bubble-up from below. Perhaps they let off gas, maybe even mild poison? 2: Slime/Oozers are simply not fun to fight. All they have is an AOE poison that is fairly strong, give them some other option of attack other than looking like so much of a fart. 3: Ancient Bark is grossly underused in the game. We need some gnarled build pieces, I feel that would really set up the base-builders to enjoy the Swamp more and treehouses within. 4: I again state, I would make raising terrain not require a Workbench, this would make Terraforming your way through the Swamp much easier and require less sprint-hopping which I read is a common complaint due to the Stamina loss from the Wet Debuff. Those are my thoughts on the Biome given that I place the Swamp fairly high. I would certainly place it over Meadows and Mountains but probably below Plains and Black Forest which are both great Biomes.

Let me add something for Meadows since it's my favorite base biome... People says meadow is lack of content and has less to offer... Dude Meadow is literally the tutorial biome... How could you expect a challenge from a tutorial... And yes, Meadow teaches a lot of essential things for newbies... Let me break it. 1. Like mr. Spazzy says in this video, there is some resources that we can't access before progressing. Same as we can't chop fine woods with stone or flint axes. Meadow already told us to upgrade our tools everytime the new one is available. 2. Meadow teaches us basic combat, for boars and necks is aggressive, and most of the time they come in group that let us learn how to fight a group of enemies. Also we can learn how to time basic parry here. 3. Deers is non aggressive and elusive animal, yet necessary for progression... Since it's the case, we learned to sneak and do long range combat. Either of them is very useful in later stages of the game. We learned that when we do crouch and sneak, it will make us hard to find by enemies, which very useful for dungeon. And after we try long range combat, either bow or spear, both have dropping projectiles... So we learn how to be precise at aiming with long range weapon, which is very useful. 4. Basically Meadow teaches us basic survival skills needed to progress. Like hunt for food, basic cook and craft, the fact that crafting tables need to be upgraded etc. Meadow might be the most boring biome for experienced players, but let's not forget that this biome told us so many essentials in this game, So that after this many tutorials we are ready for the first real challenge, which is Black Forest. Thanks for reading 😊

Okay fair point with mistlands. LOOK i am a Builder, I like to spend half my life building a farm me and my friends wont use At all THOUGH i like looking back at the things i build which the mistlands easily ruin due to the high amount of mist pockets

A black forest is a solid number 2 choice. However, I would swap the mistlands and plains. Plains are still a favourite by far. Though I do like the introduction of magic, and the few recipes tools weapons etc. The plains include the darkwood, and new food options that really flush out the whole thing perfectly from there. And if you go no further, it can still be called a great game. But then this is where I joined Valheim to begin with, where plains was the pinnacle, and the other biomes had not yet been flushed out.
@SpazzyjonesGamingАй бұрын
I can't argue with that at all. Im glad we share a top 3!

Oh, do you think we'll meet the Jotun in person in the Deep North? I've been speculating on that possibility since early Mistlands. Something to tie it all together, and the survivors of the civil war or whatever they had returned to their homeland.
The only change i would do to bronze is make it so the amount of ingots you put in is equal to what you get out. To craft 5 bronze, you put in 5 tin and 10 copper, i believe. That math doesn't math properly. 5 =/= 15. It should be 15 bronze for the same price as 5 bronze in the current game. Then black forest is perfect

Black forest is by far my favorite. Atmospheric, absolutely gorgeous and filled to the brim with danger. Mistlands also checks all of those boxes, but the verticality and difficulty navigating pushes it way down the list. Can't stand it.

Diving seems like a bit of a departure from the normal game. But I would love a dungeon like a sirens cave. Maybe some other small islands with a harvestable resource that helps craft new gear. The daggers, tower shield and stew are all really great items with the daggers being available whenever but prob once you have a karve and the others available once you have iron. Serpent stew is close to the honey chicken iirc which is mistlands tier food in the swamp. We don't need a lot, just a bit to motivate more exploration. Maybe the sirens caves are like lord reto and you can find vegisirs near the ocean in various biomes and you can craft a magic trident or something that kicks ass late game.

Personally I think mistlands is conceptually the best biome but two things would keep it from being the top. 1) It's likely the biome that varies the most with how well or badly it's generated. A badly generated one will be the most infuriating place you'll ever set foot in. I've seen vast stretches that consist of over 90% cliffs and water with absolutely zero points of interest and a horrid basis for combat where enemies just bug out (haha) on terrain or half the weapons simply don't work. On the other hand the bigger connected landmasses create the most gorgeous views and tense moments you'll ever experience. 2) While magic is a cool and unexpected introduction, it just completely breaks the balance of the game and actively just breaks all established rules. Ashlands had to be balanced with weapons of mass destruction in mind (which is why the whole landing process is so busy) and still fails at this with all the new magic being either even more busted than before or just irrelevant sidegrades that don't do much beside looking cool.

Disagree with Mistland as #1. It caused me to rage-quit 2 years ago as a single player. Stupid 2-star seeker corpse camped body in a very difficult valley. The mist is just too thick. If they adjusted the mist or made the area of "light" bigger. The Swamp and Mountains never really bothered me- they were the right level of difficulty ramp up. I do like the additions of the abominations and the frost caves since I have returned. Plains are fine too, once I got use to the goblins. 1 Black Forest 2 Mountains 3 Swamp 4 Plains 5 Meadow (Nothing wrong with it, just boring at higher levels) 6 Ashlands (Enemy density brings this one down) 7 Mistlands 8 Deep North 9 Ocean

I feel the Meadows is far too easy at this point. All well and good to providing an introduction but the zone does become a bit boring on successive playthroughs. It is actually very hard to die in this zone, unless you underestimate a wandering skeleton or come across a 2 star boar at night maybe (leading cause of death in Meadows is probably being hit by a falling tree). I feel that they need to add a rare mob to spice it up a bit: maybe something like a bear that you have to be wary of, and have it drop claws that you can used to craft your first fist weapon, which is something sorely lacking in the early game. Black Forest is my top pick followed by the mountains because you really feel like a conqueror when you stand atop the high peaks you've viewed from afar for so long.

it can be a bit boring on 2nd and third playthroughs

Hard disagree with you on the Mistlands. I rank it near the bottom because of the cliffs & fog. IMO, Iron Gate should take a few notes from Keen's playbook & make the fog in the mistlands more like the shroud in Enshrouded, where it limits visibility without making it too obstructive. Also, speaking of Enshrouded, another thing Iron Gate could learn from Enshrouded is to make magic accessible earlier in game. I like to play mages in most fantasy games I'm in, and you got to get through 2/3 of the game in Valheim to even have access to your first magic stuff, whereas I managed to loot some random bones immediately after leaving the Cinder Vault in Enshrouded, crafted my first wand & never looked back. Finally, another thing that would mitigate the annoying terrain somewhat is if Valheim improved its combat system, since like 9 times out of 10 my attacks miss seekers that are only slightly below me in elevation, because apparently Iron Gate hasn't figured out how to make it so that you can target melee attacks at enemies at slightly different elevations (even though said enemies don't have this issue) along with what has to be the most janky archery mechanics of any game I have ever played makes the Mistlands a pure chore where I only dip in long enough to extract whatever resources I need then GTFO before some Gjall or Seeker Soldier or other annoying baddie comes out of the mist to ruin my day...
@SpazzyjonesGamingАй бұрын
thats fine its a common criticism
@fairnooks7047Ай бұрын
In it's current state I would not rank Mistlands that high but with some of the mitigations, it could go much higher in my book. Primarily it doesn't deserve as much credit precisely because there is no mist mitigation mechanisms. So unless one is playing some jump scare game, it heavily violates one of the first gaming principles, that of good visual feedback or the means to mitigate poor visual feedback when it sucks. As supporting evidence, I don't search Mistlands by "discovery," I search it by looking at the mini map and seeing which way I'm going and what fog I have yet to uncover because that's the only way to properly find everything, and it is just not as fun to game that way.

many people have beef with the mistlands. I understand
@fairnooks7047Ай бұрын
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Right, it's not so much a beef for me though, more like it needs something like you said, to polish it off, add a little more player gratification/achievement. Has anyone ever tried a shield generator in the Mistlands? Never thought of it til now, the mats come from the Mistlands so it would be nice if it pushed back the mist as well.
