If you make it to North Alabama, go to Scottsboro.

BTW, there’s a cemetery in Lanett (in the residential area) that has a little brick playhouse built over the grave of a little girl who passed away in I think the 40s or 50s. People come from everywhere to see that little playhouse. I think the cemetery is called Lanett cemetery.

Valley was a series of small Mill Towns that incorporated into Valley. All the Mils have been torn down or are in the process of being torn down. The one at the first of the video was Langdale Mill

That is the Langdale mill water flow thru the open area. Sears Memorial Hall is a gym for the school across the street. Also the Cotton Duck with the white fence is the old Kindergarten.

There is no formal downtown in Valley. The area you were driving through is called Langdale. It was built by Langdale Mill in the 1860's. The only remaining standing mill structure is Langdale which you were walking in front of. The city is growing and slowly developing and there are plans to repurpose the mill area and school you looked at. I bought a house here up on the hill above the mill and like the neighborhood. This is actually a good place to live and there are jobs available and growing businesses in the area.

😂 there is no “downtown” because Valley is the conglomeration of several unincorporated communities. Originally once you left Lanett, Alabama highway 29 traveled through the communities of Shawmut, Langdale, Fairfax, and Riverview. The courthouse is on 29 a few miles south of the local McDonalds. West Point Manufacturing (a textile company) was based in West Point and had textile mills in Lanett, Shawmut, Langdale, Fairfax, Riverview and Hughley. If I remember correctly it was in the 60s that the company was bought by Pepperell in Opelika and became West Point Pepperell. The old mill in Lanett on 29 was demolished some years ago. I think it was in the 80s that the train stopped running and the tracks were turned into a Rails to Trails walking & bike path. Until the 80s the only industry in the West Point, Lanett, Valley area was the textile mills. In the 80s an industrial complex was built in Hughley and Knauf fiberglass built the first new factory in the area.

The valley is a click and a gossip bed. You’re either in it or you’re not. It’s where everybody shares and cares other’s business.

Great video! Really interesting city. That art was cool. I admire your sense of adventure. Thank you for going places we can’t or won’t lol. I definitely would not have been walking in that field. I live in Warner Robins and the population is about 80,000 and we don’t have a downtown either.
