CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL INSTALL - FOCUS ST

This is something we have been wanting to do for a long time and now we finally have the opportunity! The clutch and flywheel are vital to the performance of your car because without either, your car wouldn't move. This install will require a general knowledge of how to work on cars but can be done at home with less tools than you would expect. We hope this video helps anyone out there tackling this task by themselves. Thank you for watching!

Hi, love the content! I agree with your statement amount the rattle noise at 42:37. Additionally the increase NVH is likely due to the crankshaft counter-balance assembly fighting against the lightweight flywheel. Had an issue with this in my 04 Nissan Sentra SER SpecV. Thing started breaking starters too.

I do everything by myself and couldn't imagine having to film (you do great with the angles by yourself too) I just picked an escape motor because of a cracked head in my st and was debating weather to get a clutch now or keep using my stock clutch (looks really good). After watching this I'm gonna wait, I just got a gtx2867 gen 2 and am not going to be able to tune it if I put a new clutch in. lol btw I decided I could pick up a new motor in the hatch of my other st from watching your videos. ;)

Pro tip: focus wiper blades have an automatic reset that prevents any slop. They are self-correcting

did it by myself. I had the harbor freight engine holder. I tried to man handle the trans then I used the engine holder and just used the extra hook. raised it till it was even and it slide right in. I spent and hour trying to get it and the hoist took 10 mins. did you change out all the use once nuts and bolts???

I couldn't imagine the drama of blowing one out and ruining the inside of one of those flywheel bolts! Great video, i have a few questions. what caused the engine to need a replacement? about how many miles were on the original clutch? I'm at 91k so far and the clutch doesn't seem to have any issues. Once again great video, i'm looking forward to my replacement

David Talon Thank you for the kind words! So the clutch that was removed had about 95k on it but it was abused. The engine gave out because of a fueling issue. Without auxiliary fueling, these cars don’t tend to last past 330hp.

for bleeding the clutch, since it uses fluid from the braking system, could I uses a brake flush machine to pressurize the system like you would on a brake flush? would it pressurize the clutch system ?

Leo Hernandez So far it’s held up great! I don’t get to see his car that often but from what I’ve heard it’s holding stronger than ever! I recently got an ACT clutch and flywheel in for the built engine so we’ll see how that does as well.

How did you torque down the flywheel without a lock?

You can insert Bell housing bolts into the engine block loosely and insert a screwdriver into the teeth of the flywheel against the bolts to hold everything while torquing the bolts

Yes. The trans needs to be removed to replace it.

Im by far not a mechanic, why would my clutch be all the way to the floor like you push it and its straight to the floor after changing the clutch i had someone do it for me and apparently he doesn't know what he did wrong. I break the bleeder valve open and nothing comes out I push the clutch it sticks to the floor any help?

Sounds like they didn’t bleed the clutch. You have to bleed all the air out of the clutch system.

In my opinion running to the intake manifold makes it not go off like crazy whereas with the solenoid it goes off every time you lift off the throttle

erik ludlow that’s exactly the problem I’m having, I only started to notice it after flash tuning it with the Cobb access port, not sure if theirs any correlation . A custom tune is in the near future and was hoping that it would solve this , if it doesn’t it looks like I would no choice but to make the switch, it would be nice to understand what causes the issue .

@@bones0184 Yeah its mostly the solenoid making it do that. Getting a true vacuum from the intake mani will fix your issue. It fixed mine at least.

erik ludlow so I just retuned with a stratified flash tune , it was like 75$ , problem solved and a lot more power, also ordered the guardian Angel from them form complete control.

I doubt clutch masters would have designed the pressure plate springs to rest so close to the throw out bearing that they rattle on one another. If I contacted them and that was their answer I'd be pissed. Not only is that bad for the throw out bearing it can potentially put tiny amounts of pressure in the clutch line and cause the slave to leak over time. Not to mention the likely hood of the throw out bearing wearing out prematurely. Immediately would return their product. That's unsatisfactory.
