@Conshe Tumare All art is borrowed. It's just how life is and you've got to deal with it. Is the last of us original? Call of duty? Even "original" games out there borrow ideas. Csgo wasn't original when it came out. If you were hating on it, you could have said that it borrowed the multiplayer fps from another game. If riot made the exact same game with the same purpose, I would agree with you but they didn't. They changed these games enough so that it's a fresh experience that you cannot get anywhere else. 1. League of legends is vastly different from Dota focusing on quicker reflexes, faster movement, fog of war acting differently, purchasing items, more newcomer friendly and tons more. They share genres (just like gears of War and call of duty do) but they feel nothing like one another. 2. Legends of runeterra: you must have not played the game if you're going to call riot unoriginal here. Yes, it is an online card game but that's really where the similarities stop. Runeterra does so many unique things that make it completely different than any other card game I've played. Spell mana alone makes this game so different and I'm not even going into how passing priority works. 3.Valorant: It is the ONLY truly competitive game out there with hero abilities. Yes, you might think it's a copy and it did borrow certain things but what other shooter out there is similar? Overwatch is too casual and csgo doesn't have abilities. How you experience this game is entirely different than those two. If the experience is different how is it a copy? If you call riot unoriginal, then I don't want you to support 99.99% of things out there. Music, movies, games etc

@@JerryReyes That's something I agree with, Riot does specifically like to revamp already existing things, but they are good at it. They take existing ideas, make them simpler to pick up but still have a lot to learn. Low skill floor, high skill ceiling. It's something they are really good at doing at least as I found in LoL, LoR, and Val. Yea, it seams unoriginal, but they are really good at it. Plus LoR is one of the most unique card games I've played.

Valorant would be better if the maps weren't complete trash. Counter Strike has had 21 years now to perfect map design. But ultimately Valorant has a lower skill ceiling than CS. Regarding character skins I believe the consensus at Riot is that they might cause problems in competitive play like in Rainbow. One of the character devs, if not the lead dev iirc, said that since there is virtual no 3p viewing options like emotes, or a victory screen that the value of character skins for the player would be "lackluster" for lack of a better word.

"None of the guns have any identity." I really cannot comprehend this complaint. Especially when people ignore CS:GO when talking about it. Every single gun in Valorant has a specific usage. Every pistol is very distinct; the Sheriff is a Deagle, Ghost is a better Classic, Frenzy is full auto, and the Shorty is a mini-shotgun. How does a minimal set of extremely specific pistols not have any identity? Each one has an almost drastically different use case, literally. Compared to CS:GO, it's MUCH more distinct. It feels like they never even touched CS:GO and just kind of adopted the idea that CS:GO is really good from others. It's evident from the fact that almost all of their complaints can literally be applied to CS:GO. Like you guys are complaining that there's no sprint button (there isn't one in CS:GO either), the guns have no personality (there are much more guns in CS:GO which muddies the water even more), matches are too long (CS:GO matches are literally even longer), the characters have no personality (CS:GO doesn't even have individual characters), and that the spike kills everyone (bomb kills T in CS:GO). Probably a lot more that I missed too. Would be nice if they explained why they think CS:GO is more enjoyable, since they said multiple times that the core gameplay mechanics are almost the exact same. So saying that the gameplay in CS:GO feels better but playing with 4 randoms in Valorant feels worse is contradictory. I agree the maps are pretty boring and the store prices are ridiculous. I'll take the Valorant store over the garbage CS:GO loot boxes any day though. And no, being able to sell skins in CS:GO should not even factor in for most people since majority of people will make insignificant amounts of money from it. Also the client UI is pretty bad as well.

Like I said, the gameplay is almost identical between the two games so it doesn't make much sense if you're saying the gameplay for one game is so much better for the other one. That alone warrants at least some explanation on your part when you yourself claim the gameplay is a direct "copy and paste." You're missing the point. It's not a CS:GO review, sure. But when you make constant comparisons to it and put it on a pedestal, yes you should be explaining what separates the two. Especially when all the complaints you have with VALORANT that brought it from a 10 to a 5-6 range apply entirely to CS:GO. That's not an unreasonable request. CS has more tactics, more experimental team work tactics because the gameplay is simple yet have enough feature for players to discover and create their own style of gameplay. Also by removing grenades and change it to specific character's ability, you also limit the number of tactics to do because unlike abilities that only works in a certain situation, grenades are more versatile-throwing, dropping, bounce against wall, smoke spot where you can throws to smoke different location in the site to push. Not to mention the gameplay is also versatile, you can jump boost with teammate, bunnyhop, quickscoping from corner, getting kills with awp through walls, etc.. like I said, Valorant was too safe and doesnt bring anything new to the table. Guns looks generic, map is bland and outright dumb in design (who tf came up with 3 bombsite and its like 2 meters to rotate? CSGO maps are often balance because they were classic maps that was fine tuned throughout the days, except maybe office and inferno), while the animations are cool and smooth, the characters aint, it feels like they were pulled out of league of legends roster than a brand new set of characters. The 2 game's core gameplay is somewhat the same (2 teams, 1 defense bomb site and 1 attacking), but its the mechanics, and the execution that makes the game more fun. CSGO have a crazy high skill gap, which means its alot harder to master at the game, thats why you can see CS pros just destroying everyone in Valorant. Editsome more: While bombs and spike can kill you at round's end, you can just move out of the site and save your guns.

It's such a painfully obvious "perfect competitive shooter" that it forgot to be simply fun. That's where excessive match length, homogenity of weapons, omnipresence of smokes etc. come from. Plus, many abilities further reinforce slow and passive play. The "safety" does not help either, game is extremly child friendly to cover all audiences and probably please Tencent. And as a sidenote, there was no reason to mention that they have "Slow button instead of sprint button". Many shooters had that since CS 1.6 if not earlier. Nothing groundbreaking.

But a lot of players think Smokes are bad atm. If you're a defender and a good shot with an Operator, you've basically secured a point by yourself since the only characters with really good smokes are Brimstone and Omen. (5 Smokes) And if you take one of them out, they essentially lose their entire stash. In CS every single player can buy a smoke. So if 1 player dies, all smokes doesn't disappear from the team. Sure, you could potentially own more smokes in Valorant (9 at most I think), but the smokes in CS are better, LARGER, lasts longer and puts out Molotovs. If you see smokes everywhere, then you play against people who loves wasting money on smokes every round, or just bad players smoking everywhere. Either make the Operator worse, or make the smokes better, imo. The strat me and my friends play is 4 Operators and 1 Phantom. Usually win by time cause the enemies are too afraid to push, and they waste all their smokes early. Works all the time.

Going from grinding Obsidian on Shipment in CoD, to Valorant was a jarring shift lol. Thought it was bland, movement was absurdly restrictive etc etc. I was about to uninstall after two days, but... I kept dying. That's when the From Software/Dark Souls masochist in me woke up and decided to keep playing, and after a few more days I was hooked. Yeah it's a CSGO + Overwatch mashup, but it seems that's the exact game I've always wanted. In most mainstream shooters, you don't get punished as much for bad positioning or crosshair placement because you can abuse movement and/or abilities & gear. I personally didn't realize how much of a crutch those became over the years until I played Valorant. There's a reason so much of top ranks and pro players of all these FPS games are former/current CSGO players. Through Valorant, I now understand why. If you're reading this and like me are an avid FPS shooter who never really gave CSGO a chance, try sticking with Valorant **exclusively** for a week (or more). And the go back to your staple FPS/Battle Royale. See what happens :)

As a CS GO player, I find some of your points not sophisticated. The "sprint" function thing is merely just preference, the quieter surroundings are key to use your ears for tactical advantage, the reason to buy other pistols is that usually they are slightly better and this can make a huge difference when you are out of ammo on your primary. The match length is perfectly fine IMO people are so used to quick fast food matches in other games that they can't even concentrate throughout a 1h match. The reason Valorant seems so minimal is due to the overstimulation in most of the games today.

At least back in the day (before the Hamster was added) Overwatch did right by the lootbox mechanic (well, as right as lootboxes can even be). You bought the game for roughly 40 bucks and then all the content was available for you through lootboxes that you got by leveling up. Sure, they flooded the unlockables with low quality items like sprays and whatnot icons but every skin, animation and voiceline was there without extra cost. None of that battle pass nonsense where people who pay extra get more cool stuff while those who don't pay get the bare minimum to keep them playing and not totally frustrating. It's true that Overwatch did popularize the whole mechanic and made the mess the industry is currently in (even though Andrew Wilson was there even before them) but at least all the content was there under a single, one-time payment. Not this continuous MTX-driven live service where you have to spend money and then feel obliged to log in every day to grind those levels before the time runs out. When I was playing Overwatch, I still had time to play other games because there were rarely time limits to anything (other than the seasonal events for few weeks here and there). But with games like Apex Legends and others with battle passes, it feels like I'm married to them and have to be there every day to grind to get the most out of what I have paid in advance. And after I the day before yesterday uninstalled Apex Legends after 1000 hours and 1,5 years, I realized that it had taken so much of my time that I had hardly touched other games, much less any story-driven single-player games other than Doom: Eternal. The live services are just absolute time sinks that need to be fed constantly with the player's attention, daily logins and such.

the length of the matches is fine. CSGO's are actually longer. As someone who does like this game, I have issues with it. 1. The area where footsteps and reloads are heard, IS MASSIVE. If you stand mid on Ascent, your footsteps can be heard on both sites. 2. The timer on the bomb after the plant is LONG as hell. 3. The timer after a bomb blows or is defused, is too short. 4. You get no bonus for killing with non meta weapons, making eco rounds an absolute chore. You're not rewarded for killing a fully equipped team while having shit weapons. 5. The pistols are trash and the Sheriff is a spam weapon, not a skilled headshot machine. The first shot accuracy, and tap shooting on the Classic and Ghost SUCK 6. The Sheriff actually has a OSK range, for whatever reason. There should be no range limit on a Sheriff headshot, it should OSK regardless. 7. LMGs are super accurate up to 50m while crouched. ADS accuracy bonus also stacks making it even better. This is after they nerfed the rifle spray accuracy. 8. In a 12-12 tie, you're stripped of everything you bought and are given 5K to buy. This is stupid because the next round ISN'T an OT round cuz it's 13 to win. There isn't a fixed amount of rounds so why this OT round exists is beyond me. 9. Tagging needs to be adjusted. If you get hit with 5 points of damage from a random shotgun pellet, your movement is significantly hindered as if you took 50 damage. Stupid. 10. The store is trash. The game needs budget skins, as in $5 or less. I don't see why this game and Apex fail to see the need for this. Casuals like to spend money too. 11. Maps need work. The game is W key dependent and there is a lot of wide open areas. Ascent on attack is a good example. That map is a pure deathmatch map. Haven and Bind are ok, but Split and Ascent are trash maps. 12. Peekers advantage and hit reg needs some work. I actually have less issues with hero balance. A lot of my problems are with the game's core mechanics.

To be fair, you are right about it being a free game. So I’m pretty sure many people would have gave it a pass for microtransactions. There's nothing to interact with, no environment advantages, they aren't even built to suit the special abilities. It's like playing CS 1.6 again. Ya league does have loot box but its a little weird compare to other game's loot boxes. You get them for free by playing the game well, earning an S rank or above in a game (or your teammates). You then need to get keys to open them, which you get keys by having a good behavior and being honored by your teammates. You don't have to pay to get the loot box, though you can, its more of a complementary system that is extra rewards for players who are play consistently and have good behavior rather than a mandatory system to earn skins like overwatch. Almost all players who play the game don't even bother with the loot boxes and just buy the skins they want, and this is why many league players don't think of the game as having loot boxes because it doesn't affect them in anyway.

Overwatch has lootboxes for free too and it's one of the more annoying and predatory boxes there is. CS:GO has lootbox drops, but with paid keys. You can sell new boxes for money though. So you can have free access to them. League just has its older and better microtransaction system on top, but the game still has lootboxes.

I think the main reason why there aren't any character skins (or very few of them) is due to the fact that rito wants this to be the next big blow up esports, be extremely competitive, and I think to keep the competitive edge they aren't doing character skins because that messes with callouts and silhouettes, "is that purple think Rheyna or Jet with her new skin?". Sure the abilities are the dead give away but at first glance, having people mistake one char for another could be a detriment. I feel like this is currently a big issue with R6, the characters get so many skins (Jager is a fucking virtual barbie doll with all his shit) and some of them are REALLY hard to spot at first glance (the ember rise skins are a clear cut example of this, they made skins that blended into a part of wall perfectly so you couldn't see them at all). Personally I like the fact that they restrict the skins to charms/ knives/ gloves?/ gun skins, and my personal wish (that will never happen) is for R6 to roll back their body/ head skins to keep the game consistent and change those skins into new gloves/ glove skins, again will never happen, but I can dream I guess.

I like some of them. Jett has some character to her, Raze does too. Phoenix as well. Brimstone and Breach however, are about as cliche and lame as can be, from their voice lines all the way to their character designs.
