Shawn is 100% right about the pay having to go beyond the top 10. It's a joke that Pro Athletes who have to actually PAY an entrance fee to enter competitions, PAY yearly to renew their IFBB memberships, and PAY for everything involved including travel & hotel expense, not to mention the enormous cost of getting ready for these events. Promoters are charging big money for spectators to attend.... This reminds me of the way NCAA treat their players while generating a fortune. If you want to compare this to Capitalism, if feels a bit more like Apple setting shop in Asia employing Child Labour. Great show as always Patrick!!!

You know how majority of mma fighters get by? Lots of guys are fighting for 8+8k and 12+12K (2nd part only if you win. Nate Diaz was fighting on main events for 20+20K before a few flukes got him the Conor fight which changed his tax bracket. Miesha won her UFC title fighting for 40-45K. Rory McDonald & Robbie Lawler had a life altering brutal main event fight where Rory got 59K. This a sport worth billions but also where a lot of athletes need 2nd jobs to be able to eat. And others leave the sport for financial reasons. That is the definition of a semi pro sports: some get paid enough to make a living, some need a 2nd job, a few make bank. Bodybuilding is like acting. A lot of them are "professional actors/bodybuilders" but few make money from their profession.

The Weiders had a good influence on him. As other people have noted, Pat, usually great with his comments, questions and analysis, is rather contentious and, to be honest, heartless in this interview. Shawn stays very calm and holds his own. At TIME 1:04:30, Pat is totally trying to bully and insult Shawn. Shawn stays cool. Never seen Pat like this. This was by far the best bodybuilding interview on this channel so far. Good enough to consider contacting Shawn as a guest on a regular basis. He's always well-spoken, honest and provocative enough to not let the conversation get stale. I agree with Patrick in a sense that Olympia should do more as a brand but Ray is good at pointing out that there should be some more "meat" behind that argument so that it would not dilute into cheap populism. As Branch Warren, another famous bodybuilder once said - nobody owes you a God damned thing. So maybe both the bodybuilders and the Olympia should listen to the "be so good and present that they can't ignore you even if they wanted to" philosophy. I think that's what helped Shawn in his career as a competitor and an analyst. Olympia should maybe consider having their own channel with dedicated podcasts, talking to current and former champions, possible challengers and updating us on a regular basis about who is qualified through interviews and reviews. Maybe even have a sweet video round table with notable bodybuilders to preview and conclude the event. Also it should lean more heavily on its "crown jewel" characteristic. Mr. Olympia is THE bodybuilding competition, the world cup - if any brand has the clout, integrity and authority to speak about current bodybuilding events and cover exciting news in the sport...well maybe it's "the event"... Solomon already had a great internet radio-show with Chic and if I'm not mistaken they were able to talk with all the Mr.Olympia champions throughout their seasons on air. It's a sport that is entering this digital era in a sluggish manner. And if there's a banner to rally around and speed the process up - it's the Olympia banner. They don't have to be spectacular from the start - but start is what they have to do.

@@flangmasterj did not look at it that way tbh bro,but there are 2 bodybuilders I just switch off too,Kai Greene and kev,and love kevs physique,a legendary bodybuilder. But both just tag you along in interviews,they never want to answer questions or if they do,they stay politically correct.for example this interviewer asked Shawn some provacative questions,he answered them,the guy even thanked him for pushing back,just keeps you intrigued coz you feel you really getting to know their feelings.

Never thought I would say this but; Shawn made more sense than this narrator attempted to make during this discussion. Shawn is very much underrated in his ability to communicate.No its not arrogant, its reality, No champion can dictate to an organization as established as the Olympia. Yelling got this guy nowhere...Every time Shawn makes a valid point here, the narrator goes off comparing the case in point to another completely different scenario. I found it annoying and Shawn earns props here in my mind.

My only issue with these recent interviews is that it’s pretty clear the host has little insight into the core aspects of bodybuilding. I don’t see how he can attempt to debate Shawn. This is more of an interview with the host’s attempts of interjection. When he gets backed into a corner, he’ll bring up sports he knows about. Bodybuilding is unlike any other sport, so the parallels are not as clear as the host might think.

Shawn Shawn Ray has always been to me, one of the ideal and aesthetically , one of the most symmetrical , and eye pleasing examples, at what body building should look like. To me when the judges started looking at Dorian, they missed the mark ,and the point of what they were supposed to be looking at? I understand size and wow factor of the extreme look? But genetically , Dorian in comparison to Shawn, I would of took Shawn's well balanced and pleasing to look at body over Dorian any day, to me that's when every everything changed, and the judge has started looking purely at the size and freak factor? I like Dorian but his genetics in my opinion we're not nearly as good, especially comparing each muscle and the genetics and balance of each muscle? To me that's when the Tide's changed? And the the judges factored in the freak aspect , when they shouldn't reward because of pure size? And now look at all the that has passed away because of it? Pushing purely or adding in the size factor? If it were my body with no consideration of weight and size? I would have much rather had Shawn's genetics. And probably most women also would agree to that? I remember when I was young my parents and I would look at bodybuilding magazines, and when Dorian came on the scene, she said that looks gross, he's too big and it don't look right. And I understood what she saying. That's to me the point where it made a turn.
@coreyfrady57644 жыл бұрын
And in my opinion they should do what they used to do when Arnold competed and have tall class, or maybe split the stage and have the bigger guys and a shorter guys either move forward or back to where they look the same height? That way if they all look the same height, it would be a whole different it may be more realistic. I feel the same way about basketball? A way to make it fair for competitors because physically it's such a advantage or a disadvantage, and evens and evens the playing field so to speak? I mean can you imagine what Franco columbo would look like with his same structure but with the illusion of him being 6ft 2" tall? Lol, I don't know how you would do it but to me there's such a disadvantage when it comes to the height and the size.

No other body builder past or present had the muscles line up so perfectly. Sure Flex had rounder muscle bellies ,Levrone had more size and yates freak factor! But none of his body parts lagged, where full, sliced and perfect. If you look at what the original idea of a body builder is, which is the perfect, balanced, symmetrical, asthetic, fully developed physique. That makes Shawn the perfect body builder. I think they just couldn't give a guy the Mr O title on genetics alone, when other dudes where over 30lbs heavier and had put on so much muscle. After all it is still a muscle show!
