Ngl I would kind of love a "playtest" mode where the highest rated maps on the workshop are cycled through, and then everyone on the servers can vote on it at the end of the match/round.

It’s not as easy, because good communication can only be determined in hindsight. Like, if you say “we don’t have any plans to focus on ADS for CS:GO”, and then, 6 months of playtesting and developing later, add it, people are gonna be mad. You didn’t lie, you did communicate everything, but players will be annoyed.

Communication being bad is only the fault of the developer. Communication can always be done correctly by the developer, EVEN 343i can do it. There is value in what Valve say in the GDC talk, e.g in the event of balance issues, but sticking to that philosophy for all forms of comms is a get out of jail free card. Valve stick to their archaic GDC 14 philosophy because Valve are completely disinterested in the clear communication since all of the topics they would be asked about would be difficult questions and it would hold them accountable in many different ways and theyre scared of that.

I remember some talk about the 2010 era where source developers would ask questions in email, and then like a month later they would get one of the questions answered or so, seemingly at random or something.. I can't speak to that being accurate, but I can speak to the source wiki and developer resources and the interchanges from developers on that, often having problems where they just were like well I guess this is a problem now.. anybody got a clue? And then like a couple of months or a year or weeks later you'd see the reply where they either figured it out, or somebody was asking if they were still having it, and then somebody would respond if they had a fix or a workaround or what they did to solve it maybe.. and then there's like a ton that are just like.. anybody? And then that was the end of the thread.. So.. if the whole magic genie random one question guru email thing is true.. it would not surprise me one bit.

That part about ADS was interesting because i see some people (mostly those new to the franchise) complain about the lack of a proper ADS mechanic. I always thought it was a weird complain since every game in the series does fine without it so it's good to see that the devs also share this opinion. People just need to get used to it.

when it's on every gun its a mechanic to dumb down the aim and flatten the skill curve, and there is no fundamental gameplay reason why you'd need it. The fact they even ask like its such an assumed feature really irks me. thanks CS for keeping competitive FPS alive
@Choochinc

I heavily dislike ADS in shooters. It's just a pointless extra input. You gain no extra zoom without a scope, it slows you down, you lose most of your FOV, and if you don't ADS, you can't shoot accurately. Stupid. Obviously snipers are the exception. I love CS for being the only shooter left that doesn't have ADS. It's so much nicer to play without it. Also nobody would be able to hit crazy 90+ degree flicks with ADS.

About the maps, and how valve says the most important is players, I think the move they made in casual game mode was genius. They knew that Mirage and Inferno were the most played maps, followed by Nuke and Overpass so they decided to split them in 2 groups so the community can't keep cycling between them, and it worked, I've never seen the community play other maps so much, as a result, Vertigo, Ancient and Anubis are getting their own place little by little, and never have they been played so much as now

I thought it was glaringly obvious that the loadout system is designed for adding new weapons "willy-nilly". In CS:GO, if Valve wanted to add a new weapon it's stats and feel had to match closely to another existing weapon so it could seamlessly slot into another weapons slot. Now that massive restriction is lifted, and new weapons can be thrown in with just a type: Pistol, mid-tier or rifle.

we consider premier our "real" rating and consider competitive as casual now. Casual shouldn't exist imo, it's a horrible experience. Also competitive is the best way to learn the game because you can choose which map to play. Focusing on a single map is the best way to learn a new game. When I started learning R6S I struggled so much with the very high amount of complicated maps, eventhough they introduced a beginner mode which restrict the number of maps, the fact that I couldn't choose only one made it so much more complicated than learning csgo where I could queue only one map again and again (I chose de_cache at the time)

To me it was one of csgo's and tf2's biggest strength over their respective competitor (and in the case of tf2, the only thing that's kept me playing) But valve has continued to sort of hide away the comnunity servers and the browser feels like its as old as source itself. I just hope they bring more of the default T/CT agents back in everyone's inventory so you can choose which default agents YOU prefer most while also throwing away the ''map-exclusivity'' since older CS games like 1.6, Condition Zero, and Source 1 let you choose your agent. And this also allows players who don't have the ability to buy the paywalled agents test out various radio command voice lines by utilizing said default agents that aren't Phoenix or SAS. An example would be swapping the Phoenix Connexion out for the Anarchists (the ones with the really cool sleeves on the hostage maps) and swapping the SAS out with the ST6, GSG-9, and GIGN again through the inventory or your loadout. Valve should even add 4 more default agents from Condition Zero into CS2 that I think some players are going to like experimenting with (of course someone's going to need to voice all those radio command voice line sound files): Kidotai (Japan CTs) Akunin (Japan Ts) Spetsnaz (Russian CTs) Midwest Militia (US Ts)

Here's my big issue with CS2 atm: Back in CSGO your prime mattered, I have 3k hours on csgo and I could say that maybe 1 in 150 games I come against a cheater, when someone is just better than me you can see it in their movement, decision making, aim etc. It was extremely rare for me to call someone out as a "cheater" because the more you played without cheating, the higher your prime would go and you would only face opponents with a similar "prime level" as you. In cs2 however, the main issue is that you see all these brand new accounts, blatantly wallhacking/aiming/norecoil etc. and it feels like 1 in every 10 games or so I come against a blatant cheater, and even prior to that I think a few other maybe are sus but I am not one to call someone a cheater without feeling confident. I just miss that my prime/hours mattered, but now, so many people getting banned and just making new accounts and I get put in lobbys with them. I wish that they would fix that because then I'd feel a lot more chilled about playing & accepting my losses fairly.

I think a neat solution to adding new weapons while keeping the game balanced and not flooding the sandbox would be something like Weapon Conversion Kits where it changes the look of the gun completely but it still performs the same. Two weeks before consideration, run the best community made maps in a pool via an update, with a rating system at the end. Then after two weeks, introduce the top 2-3 maps into the custom pool, with some other existing maps, and do this once a quarter. Any map that made it into the testing pool, but was not selected, gets to return automatically, with introduction of new custom maps for consideration. Then we go again. This also gives a good look at possible new official custom maps, in a casual setting. This 1) keeps the game fresh and 2) creates incentives for people to be creative and, in my option the most important 3) gets new users learning Hammer and gifting themself a skill.

0:27 Ironic considering what they've done to Righteous Bison in TF2 where they've unilaterally "fixed" a bug where the projectile can go pass through players and hitting them multiple time while in fact that's a feature that even the in-game tip mentioned and Valve haven't reversed that "fix" yet. Like imagine they've fixed a bug in AK-47 and SG556 where it could insta-kill players or M4A1-S and USP-S where their gunshots are quiet.

5:15, we will always have to rely on valve. This is the problem with most NFT's, they offer no benefit if you couple their functionality to a centralized authority. Peope use NFT's like glorified databases, with no actual benefit (other than the ability to use buzzwords, to lure people into scams). NFT's arent unique by definition. Their entry in the blockchain is, but the thing the NFT points to follows no rules. You could also mint the same NFT twice. Valve could put skin information into NFTs (like skin ID, float, pattern index etc.), but what for? Its only their game that uses this information. Things like textures would have to be hosted separately, because its too big to fit into the blockchain entry directly. Again, its coupling the decentralized nature of NFTs to a centralized system/authority. Please stop giving this bullcrap any attention. I have yet to come across a plausible use case for this technology, it always ends up to be some kind of scam. If someone can point me to a plausible use case, please go ahead, because I can't think of one. I can only imagine how the devs eyes rolled into the back of their heads when they received that question lol

Aye, even with arguments for just cross-game proof of ownership for items, the item in question would still only be available for games from the same developer, at which point, you may aswell just keep using a regular database because the NFT still dies with the company that issued it. Unless copyright laws are drastically reformed, any random game dev looking to implement other studio's NFT items into their game would still require a license to add the item in the first place. Just because you own the NFT, it doesn't mean you own the copyright and IP of the thing it points to, and because NFT's just point to things, rather than actually store them, game devs would have to ship their game with the item already coded in, which, unlike user-created mods which are too small for large companies to bother going after, require a separate license and permission to distribute.
@L0op

A couple of years ago I've read about a small indie studio who was trying to create a standard for items that could be used across games, so you could earn an item in one game, store it in your "player inventory", then use it in another game, of course translated to that world and balanced. Obviously it never came to be, and it probably wouldn't have worked, but that would have been a plausible use case I think.

While I get that the slow rollout has been rough for some people, the slow meticulous maintenance and changing of CS’s gameplay has been the core of what makes it work so well for me and so many others. Competitive games almost always suffer from devs who function on quick knee jerk reactions that are made due to the internet being angry at an issue. Often I find these quick reactions just lead to more issues, and more complaining, and more changes. It’s a negative feedback loop. Valve taking their time and being smart about the changes they make, should work out for them in the long run. I’m looking forward to the future of this game. Plus new weapons is extremely exciting!

For devs of a game so community driven in all aspects, they should straight up communicate more, or at least let us know things they're aware of, roadmaps, etc. The anit-cheat stuff needs attention, and the only answer is what valorant did - intrusive anti-cheat. No matter how much they are against it, its simply necessary. Its not enough to ban a cheater months later or if at all, it has to be instant. There are entire industries of developing and selling cheats to the masses and if you google around, CS2 is the most popular there. Valve's current system is not capable. I also thought them dismissing sub-tick issues as animation sync issues is not accurate. There are so many examples of being killed behind cover, killing people when shooting behind them. Something is very wrong. They want to do everything in their power to avoid 128 tick for the server costs. Also when you COMPLETELY REPLACE a previous game, its not acceptable to not have feature parity with the last one. They could have easily kept CSGO up and freezed the economy there, only managing CS2, so at least you could still play the old one, at least until they got everything sorted and replicated. Valve gets so many passes but they are not perfect. Their lack of communication and straight up ignoring certain things like anti-cheat and sub-tick stuff is very bad for such a game influenced so greatly by the community. All their money and success is owed to the community and modders for creating CS in the first place, making skins a thing across all fps games through old stuff like game banana mods, and all the community maps that prop the game up. More open communication needs to happen.

The subtick issues you are talking about are mostly due to ping and interp, which were already factors in CSGO. The looking down bug with the hitbox they talked about was an animation issue. @@Mikael-jt1hk It doesn't-you're confused. Competitive mode now runs on a matchmaking system where it's 10 wins to get ranked. Per map. With unique ratings per maps. So the same way you have to grind for your rank unlock in Premier (10 wins, expected value of 20 matches for the average player) you have to do the same for every single Competitive map. If they want to play against people of a similar rank, because they're both ranked, the average player needs to play 140 games to be ranked for all maps competitive. @@Arcana_Veritas_EN It is "playable", but their sub-tick/interpolation does drastically hinder game play when it comes to precise shots not being registered because the client isn't showing accurate information. I've had multiple instances where I confidently shot someone in the head and transferred over to another player to find out the shot on the first never registered and I die. Or I clearly AWP someone, and the shot misses. This is an issue that does need to be addressed for a game reliant on competitive play. Also QKNorris found out that shots render on the previous frame vs current rendered output frame making the game less accurate client side. This why snipers who do flick shots and "miss" despite clearly "hitting" when slowed down, it's indeed game breaking and can change the entire tide of a game. Pro snipers have complained and rightly so. Also the countless examples of playing against bots offline and having up to a 80ms delay is absurd. I notice a massive difference between offline and online shot registration and response. I can stop on a dime and pop a bots head almost instantly, but online against players, the stop on a dime and accurate shots are few and far between due to this interpolation delay issue. I think the peeker's advantage has become more variable due to subtick. I'm not sure valve understands the issue. But this aspect of CS2 is vastly different to CS:GO

Halo Infinite has been doing this as well and oddly enough the reaction to features from older Halo games being introduced to Halo Infinite 1 by 1 has been good for the game. People get more excited about the introduction of Infection when they haven’t had it for some time. It’s a weird psychological trick but the results end up positive even if it causes outcry when the features are missing when the game launched.

Rocket launcher on t-side would be crazy… but it wouldn’t fit anywhere under the load-out labels though. 2 shots with shit accuracy and double radius/damage of a grenade costs like $2000 and replaces your primary. Super situational.

I'm worried that the limited weapon selection might discourage variety or make it harder to have fun with certain memes (strat roulette needs more planning now). Experimenting with a new weapon is already hard in competitive, and not everyone wants to hop into a casual/training map immediately after a comp to see if an idea would work, hell some strats are so specific they only work one or two round a match but can make all the difference. Valve gave enough of their weapons niche uses as is, it would be nice to see those niche uses be preserved.

What about the thousands of community maps and game modes that just got deleted? How are we supposed to play those now? Surely leaving CSGO playable, at least just for the community maps, couldn't have been that hard.

I wish there was a question asked about the overall aesthetic of the game. I really enjoy the serious "gritty" look of CSGO way more than CS2's bright and clean look.

I prefer competitive, the only reason I play premier is because despite moving between DMG and LEM for years valve's new stupid matchmaking put me in silver and I don't play that much so I don't feel like playing for months just to raise my rank, on a single map. The people in premier seem to be less oblivious about gameplay, that's why I play it, not because I like it.

NFTs do not guarantee any scarcity or availability. They are practically receipts. You can create as many of them as you want, and if the server holding the item linked to the NFT is down, or if its content change, then there is nothing you can do.

i have a theory about revolver actually, imo revolver is still pretty op and being released as it is now would disrupt things and change the meta, but releasing it as super op and then changing it instantly gave everybody a taste of insane overpower, then changing it making everybody think its just whatever and meta went right back to how it was and now with cs2 adding the loadout stuff im seeing revolver pop up more and more since its possible to have deag and revolver. i think they just planned to like hard launch the revolver into a soft launch?

I'm speechless how a company like Valve handle all this so poorly. For sure they are not many people in the team but what is then the problem?
