The Italian thug Guido was also Eddie Murphy. Eddie plays 3 characters here,, Maximilian, Preacher Pauley, and Guido.

"This guy's slick..." Eddie gives a great performance as Max and is wildly against his usual type. He talks slow and low, with menacing body language, and really makes Max a smooth villainous protagonist. "He's so shiny..." Though some of Eddie's side characters run a bit long, I do really enjoy Vampire In Brooklyn. It's moody, has a lot of fun with vampire mythology, and John Witherspoon is a hoot throughout (RIP to an OG). There's a lot of underrated vampire movies out there to discover (and I love that Craven calls out Blackula). It's a wildly broad genre with a lot of interesting mythology.

I saw this film a few times on TV when I was a teenager, it was hilarious. The way Eddie Murphy acts as a vampire is hilarious especially with the way he says STFU.

John Witherspoon is also in Eddie Murphy's 1992 movie BOOMERANG.

No, Rita (Angela Bassett) is the half vampire, not Nikki. Nikki is just very flirty and ends up getting killed from it.

"Hey, man, my pops always said the quickest way to a woman's heart - the church." "It's actually through the ribcage, but that's a bit messy." Fun Fact: Eddie Murphy stated that he made this movie for one reason: Paramount agreed to release The Nutty Professor (1996)'s rights in exchange for finishing his deal with the studio. Love And Violence Fact: The scene where Maximillan murders Nikki mirrors the scene where Dracula murders Lucy and turns her into a vampire in Dracula (1992). Both scenes start off sexually and then, gradually turn violent and horrific. Except Nikki doesn't turn into a vampire. Dracula Connection Fact: During the opening narration, Maximilian indirectly references the character of Dracula when he talks about how the Nosferatu were originally from Egypt but were expelled thousands of years ago. Many of the vampires relocated to the Carpathian Mountains in eastern Europe. Dracula lived in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania.

I think Wes said that Eddie didn't want to be funny. He REALLY wanted to be scary -- he loves horror movies and grew up watching them with Charlie (which explains them both getting script credit). Really had his heart in the right place. I wanna love it and like parts of it quite a bit but don't think it works as a whole. I can see why it does work for the people who do dig it, tho. And that's cool, I'm always gonna be fans of people loving horror movies even if I don't!

Movie really had an identity crisis. Have to admit though, that "This is my stomach, this is my heart." line always kills me.

Wes wanted to make a comedy, but Eddie wanted to make a serious horror. Quite ironic...

Eddie was also a producer, but this was his, Charlie and their younger brother Vernon Lynch's script. Eddie recruited Wes Craven to direct it.

Another classic. Apparently it didn't do well but I loved it when it came out....and I forgot where the line " Shut the Fuck Up, God damn it!" came from, I say it all the time exactly the way he does, lol.

For old school comedy vampire movies, I think "Love at First Bite" with George Hamilton is best. Was a smash hit in 80s. He was a dramatic leading man who fell into comedy stardom with "Love at First Bite" and "Zorro: The Gay Blade" both of which were hits (the latter probably would offend a lot of people these days, but it was funny).

Great reaction again, Jay. I really never gave this movie enough love when it first came out. I think it was because it was so far from Eddie's norm. When all of his movies with the multiple characters came out in the mid to late 90's, I just couldn't get into them. Seeing this reaction reminds me that there is some good comedy in this movie. I did notice you glossed over the "Fugitive" joke. Have you not seen it? Maybe the editing cut the acknowledgement. Can't wait for the next one. I hope by the end of the year you get a surge of subscribers. I keep noticing the number and I'm waiting for the flurry of new subs. Hopefully.

I know I saw this film in the 90's but after watching it here I realize I remembered next to nothing about it; kind of strange how you think a film is one way but it's very different in reality when revisited.

I did not know this was a Wes Craven movie! It's one I never watched because even when I got older, I didn't think I would like it. It seemed so far from the Eddie Murphy films I have watched before. But it actually looks pretty good and a different take on vampires blended with voodoo and African culture. Anyway as always, enjoy your reactions!!

Thank you! And understandable. This was definitely different from what I've seen of Eddie Murphy. It's an alright movie just nothing necessarily makes it stand out as a must watch. Fun enough though.

I remember this movie. I remember there was some controversy around it because the woman that was Angela Bassett’s stunt double died during the making of it. She had expressed previous concern about doing the stunt. Don’t quote me but I think that’s what happened.

It's not Eddie Murphy's or Wes Craven's best movie but it's watchable. I grew up watching movies like The Nutty Professor and The Haunted Mansion. I enjoy it when Eddie Murphy plays multiple characters in a movie.

Don't you think that Eddie Murphy was going for that look to be funnier in the movie obviously they know it was shiny then the other people around when they put the makeup on he's a comedian don't forget so that probably was an underlying thing outfit in the makeup funnier cuz of course he doesn't look human or real😂

This is one of Eddie's cheesy movies that I secretly enjoy although its awful in a fabulous way lol. I think that if more money had been put into the makeup budget and they didn't make Eddie's main character wear that awful wig, I would love this movie more publicly lol.
