I disagree with the people who claim that Jake left abandoned his girlfriend and left her to be raped. Caroline is a fast, party girl. She's even way too fast for Jake. I know that Jake said, he could violate her, but her character traits imply that 1. They've already had sex many times, and 2. She probably passed out a few times before they were both finished, because she ALWAYS drinks too much. Therefore, 3. Having sex with his passed out girlfriend is a normal part of their relationship which is another reason why Jake wants out of it. If you've ever dated a woman like Caroline, you won't understand. I've dated two women like that. They drank too much and then they always wanted sex. They kn3w that after they got off a few times, they would be very tired, so, they told me to just go ahead and finish if that happened. But I couldn't do it. I found it super creepy. I would tell them in the morning what happened and they would make up it up to me by taking care of me right then. Jake knows his girlfriend very well. He knows that if anything happens with a virginal geek like Farmer Ted, it would just be Caroline, doing her usual routine again. "No, seriously, look I'm totally awake now! Let's have sex for 5 minutes, before I have another drink and I immediately pass out after you get me off three times. I swear that I'm not drunk anymore! Let's do it! What was your name again?" Jake doesn't care if Ted hooks up with Caroline, because he's done with their flaky relationship and Caroline's escapades. Jake trusts that Ted won't do anything to Caroline unless she jumps his bones, which is exactly what she did in the Rolls. Any halfway intelligent man who dates a woman like this will suspect that sooner, rather than later, she's going to cheat on you and she probably already has. Jake is no different. He trusts a stranger like Ted not to hurt Caroline, more than he trusts his girlfriend Caroline not to have sex with a stranger. Jake is actually a good guy for giving Caroline the lifestyle that she wants. If you love somebody, set them free. Notice that on the morning after, in the Rolls, Caroline doesn't break into tears when she believes that she and Ted had sex. There's no mention of Jake or feeling any guilt about what happened with Ted. Caroline is a classic alcoholic and possibly a borderline sex addict. We can see this situation two different ways: 1. Jake and Ted are terrible men, who took advantage of a poor innocent young girl, who had little bit too much to drink, one time and who will now live in shame, guilt and regret for the rest of her lfe. Or my take which is 2. Caroline is an alcoholic wild child and this is actually her standard operating procedure for finding new boyfriends: "Who are you?" Did we have sex? Cool! Do you wanna be my new boyfriend? Yes! This feels so right! Now, let's go have some more drinks and sex to celebrate, Baby!"

Coach throwing his hat during his rally speech (NERDS!) is so fucking awesome. The way he just went for it in such a silly movie. As a kid, I was stoked when he popped up in Roseanne.

Once my stepdad moved in to our house full time during the 90's and we subsequently HAD MONEY I remember having Cable TV in the living room at some point. I don't know how it was outside the UK because this is where I've lived my entire life but over here there was a service that was kind of Netflix BEFORE NETFLIX. I'm going back 25 plus years here so my memory of it isn't great but there was a way you could rent movies on Cable television and all you needed to know was the four digit code you're household had been assigned. And me and my siblings like ALL knew what it was so we were all renting movies and then I'm guessing my Mum or stepdad got the bill one month and HIT THE ROOF because of all the movies we had been renting without permission. The reason I'm telling this long winded story is because I think "Jawbreaker" (1999) was the last movie I personally got to see using that rent a movie service BEFORE the code got changed so none of me and my siblings could abuse it. Like either I watched it then shit hit the fan and my folks went CRAZY at the amount of additional charges there were on a bill that came through the door from NTL. Or they got a letter saying it would change on a certain date and by that point it might of been the last time I used the old code. I'm not sure how it went down because it was so long ago now and besides who cares anyway? But that period of being a kid and watching things I shouldn't of been ALWAYS comes to my mind whenever I think of this movie!!

The story is based on actual people who lived in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The writing however is pretty hackneyed and cliche-ridden. That being said, the acting among the cast members did more than make up for it making it an excellent way to spend an hour or two.

This would have been a holiday classic if Hughes didn't already make Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. It didn't have the same heart as that film. As much as I love Ed O'Neil---and I watched Dutch just last week---he's no John Candy or Steve Martin. Still. I wouldn't call this highly underrated but it deserves a renewed look.

Just read an article about Thanksgiving movies & they put this down. RT gives it a terrible critics score. Personally I love this film & think the negative reviews are simply bandwagon reviews or ppl who can’t appreciate the tackiness of the 90s. It’s hilarious, heartfelt & well acted. I watch every year, the firework destroyed jacket kills me 😂😂😂
