I saw them in Vegas during the reunion tour. It was scary sad. Ed looked like he could fall over at any minute. They played the Orleans Casino. A very small venue, but quaint and could have been good. Eddie was very sick. Very ill. He for the only time I saw VH sounded terrible.😢

I’ll say this. I saw both versions of Van Halen live twice. This narrative now about Roth being a better front man is a myth. He was GREAT on camera. In music videos Roth was a genius performer. But because he did high kicks and shaked his ass did not make him a great front man in concert. He didn’t engage with the audience as well as Sammy (and others) and didn’t really generate any real energy. Van Halen had far more energy in concert with Sammy and sounded infinitely better.

Best concert of my life was Van Halen's Balance tour in 1995. Moline, IL. They performed it just like here, with the video screen showing an eagle's point of view. Such a great song. Such a great group. RIP Eddie. You are missed.

One X/C flight on a hang glider in the lightest mid-day thermals....battling to stay in the air. Floating over Paisley, OR and I joined a couple Golden Eagles thermalling up. Eye-level for about 3 turns and I was calling on the radio and a friends wife replied...'shut up- pay-attention'. Next turn and one of the birds cut across the circle and its mate followed with wings-in and talons out (she's mine!). My best flight ever. Over 3-hours, and 27 miles...in pitiful lift. I hear this song all these years later and remember that flight and its hard to keep the tears back. Round and round and you could see their eyes, and their feathers stalling/lifting-up to fly slow. The most beautiful four minutes of my life.

RIP King Edward. This is a perfect example that shows how incredible he was as a rhythm guitar player. That piece he plays at the end of the song is not original to the song. If you listen to the recorded track on Sam's last solo album (I Never Said Goodbye) you will hear something completely different. I always wondered if he made it up on the spot that night in Toronto. Just incredible sounding and made a great tune even better. Thankful that it got recorded on this clip.

I’ve been a Sammy Hagar fan since I saw him open for Boston in St. Louis in 1978. He rocked the house. When he hooked up with Van Halen I thought, why would he do that? Then I went to their 1st concert in St.L and discovered why. They became a supergroup. It’s too bad Sammy & Eddie couldn’t work out their differences. We missed out on a lot of great music. I was just reading over an interview I did with Sammy about the Van Halen Live: Right Here right Now recording. I asked him what live performance he would play for his best friend? This exact video is what he chose. He said, "For my friend, I'll play him "Eagles Fly" from the video tape instead of the album. I made some guitar mistakes but just the passion and the vocal was a great performance of that song. I'm really proud of that and that's why I would play it for my friends. "
