you see so many guitarists who just shred to show what they can do, Eddie incorporated patient shred into song...perfectly placed moments of what he could do but all for the song's story...a true writing genius he was. That's why he will live forever and not just be swallowed up by today's KZbin 'look what I can do' abyss. Masterful art
@MattSmith-iq1ld4 жыл бұрын
Eddie considered himself a SONGWRITER first. That is what separates him and Hendrix from the shredders. They cannot write "Panama" and "The Wind Cries Mary".
@tolsondwiggins3564 жыл бұрын
@Brian Parboy You bring up a good point. That's why a lot of guitar virtuosos are boring to listen to. Guys like Yngwie Malmsteen don't play songs, they just play endless solos that come off like they're constantly saying "look how great I am." Eddie's playing never came off as arrogant or pretentious, nor was it overbearing either. As Matt Smith said, you could tell that he was a song writer first and that his main focus was writing great music. Nothing about Eddie and his playing said "look at me and what a guitar God I am."

@yragcom14 жыл бұрын
@@jugglingembalmer Totally disagree. From 72-85 with VH, three solo tours from 85-88, then reunion tours in 07 and 11-12. The man has stamina and was a hell of a showman. I saw a LOT of those early shows in the early 80s. Sammy is good, but VH wise, he'll NEVER be as good as DLR.

It was too much alcohol and smokes more than anything else. Band stayed in Cabo Wabo mode from 1988 until the VH brothers finally kicked Sammy out and both of them paid the piper. Sammy and M. Anthony seemed to be the only ones who weren't worse for wear(relatively), after the Sammy-era. Still though, they had their most disciplined sound with him and if Dave had stayed in the band, they might have done even worse, partying and health-wise.
