I have been playing guitar for nearly 40 years and I can tell you "Hot for Teacher" is **HARD**. The techniques, tapping, wide-vibrato, bends, the solo are just a monster to master and get it to sound right. This guy NAILED IT! Great work.

mr tabs is like the personified guitar version of a sleeper fast car. like when you're on the berlin turnpike and race some guy in some soccer mom looking ford escape and then you get straight smoked cuz the thing has got some 700 hp supercharged crate engine. If you saw mr tabs at some party and he asked to play your guitar, you would think he is going to play twinkle little star.. badly, and then he would melt your face off with your own guitar! dude is an undercover bad ass

It's really not all that difficult when you start to 'get the groove'. Half the difficulty of EVH's playing is trying to make the rhythm sound correct as he had such a natural sense of swing in his playing. If you can't swing, you can't Eddie, and he set the bar for hard rock with a swing. That's what made him and DLR work so well together in that fleeting moment. Listen to DLR solo music and it's all standards with a shitton of swing. Start listening to WWII Big Band music like Glenn Miller and you'll see what I mean.

Ok.... Honest opinion. This guy completely killed it. Compared to the original the riffs seemed a little pushed on the best where Eddie had a more bluesy back of the beat feel. But again amazing job! Cool, which parts have you been struggling with? I used to struggle with the intro and the wide finger stretch trying to get a solid sound with the pull offs and hammer ons.

I actually found the pull offs and hammer ons easy. What I struggle the most with is the tremolo picking and the outro solo. I'm at a disadvantage with tremolo picking, or picking in general. I was a fingerpicker for about 20 years..... Never used a pick until a few months ago. Edit: by the time I first tried this song, I could stretch my fingers from fret 1 to 7 pretty easy. I have long fingers.

@@doc221978 Yes long fingers would do it for the intro. I've also had to work a bit on Tremolo picking lately. Especially being in and out of practice and being dominant with the left hand. Good luck practicing with a pick. Hope to get a fingerpicking song up soon too.

This song is way easier to play if you are tweaking hardcore on that sweet 1983 snow... Lord knows the Van Halen bros and David Lee Roth were miles high when they wrote this epic piece of 80s classic metal. I didn't even notice anything wrong in the tone. Tone seemed perfect, the only thing slightly off is that he was rushing just a tiny bit in the intro. You wanna get as fast as you can do I think a lot of guitarists practice certain runs or riffs at above normal tempo just for practice and unfortunately that gets hardwired into your brain and muscle memory. That being said though I don't think I could have done it any better (but I haven't yet tried). Nailed everything else.
