He, for a long time, lost all his playing and ability, it was awful to listen to him play live in early 2000s to 2007 when he stopped. Drugs and alcohol destroyed him at that point, check it out, it was really really awful. What made him even greater is the fact that he, 7 years later, came back, sober, with his freaking ability back and sounding exactly the same like in the 80s.

I absolutely am a huge fan of VH. However I am a massively bigger fan of Alex Van Halen. I modeled my drumming style after him. Alex and Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot drummer who also just passed recently before E.V.H. did.) Them 2 are my influences on my drumming skills. I never got to see VH live. I think that Alex just like Vinny Paul Abbott (Pantara drummer/founder) after his brother died a piece of him died. Alex is no different. Vinny was out of the music business for years before returning. I like most other drummers can only hope that he will do drum clinics thru his legendary sponsorship with LUDWIG. I doubt it but here's to hoping. Alex if I lost my Lil' bro (which I have & hes a awesome guitar player and person) if I lost him I don't blame you if the public eyes didn't see you on them drums again. Alex and Wolfgang our hearts are with you all! Thanks @alexvanhalen for the inspiration bro!

Part of it is that it's fun music. Van Halen brought fun to hard rock. Before it was all doom and gloom, the occult, mysticism, and serious singers and guitar players. I love Led Zeppelin, but lets face it no one ever played a Zeppelin album thinking about hot girls in bikinis, cold ones on the beach, and a big, loud party in the back yard all night. Van Halen brought fun and good times to hard rock. They were serious but never really took themselves seriously. When you watched Eddie shred he wasn't wincing or putting on a gloomy face, he had the biggest smile on the planet like he was a 12 year old kid having the best fucking time of his life, and he was. That's why it's such a huge impact. He simply made everyone who watched and listened to him happy.

Noah Reaves according to several accounts, including VH record producer Ted Templeman, DLR was not great in the studio. Production techniques made his voice sound good although it’s also noted that he worked his ass off in the studio and was very cooperative. A real trooper who took well to direction.

@@stephenadamsmusicalinterpr4203 I think naturally Dave has a good solid voice, but he is too ADHD and hyper to focus on singing. He has gotten a whole lot better though. I love him.

Noah Reaves the pros who worked with him know better. Subjective opinions are trumped by those professionals who were there and had to deal with it. Read Ted’s book “A Platinum Producer’s Life In Music” and Greg Renoff’s “Van Halen Rising” for accurate factual accounts.

So sad, this is my favorite guy: Eddie Van Halen, the guitarist and songwriter who helped give the radio-rock band Van Halen its name and sound, died Tuesday after a battle with cancer. He was 65. His death was announced by his son, Wolf Van Halen, on Twitter.

It's one thing to be too young to remember when older legends were in their prime and pass on, it's sad but it doesn't hit you. I'm 43. Eddie's passing really hit me man. I grew up with every one of these guy's latest album blasting out of the cassette stereo in either my parents, friends, or my own car. They were making albums when I was in grade school AND high school. They were as part of my life as anyone in my family. Eddie left us too young. 65 isn't that old. Fuck cancer.

Original members still at fighting weight....we miss you Eddie, thanks for many, many great tunes, and epic solos. For all those born after....a certain time....this is a solid, decent slab of meaty, throbbing, stand up and square off ROCK and ROLL. TBH, I like the earlier stuff better and it holds up surprisingly well. A Different Kind of Truth was not quite at the level of the earlier stuff, but the original spirit is still intact.
