One of the most distinct of all time, but Van Halen and most bands have multi harmony background vocals and people seem to forget Ed's voice was 50% of that. Go back and listen to Ed's parts and give him his credit for 50% of the background vocals.

I was at this show. I wasn't big Hagar fan at the time, didn't know what to expect. The mix was superb. (Roth came to town about 2 weeks later, may have been 2 weeks prior, I remember the mix wasn't as good, although Vai and Sheehan raised the bar to "Deadly") Let me tell you, they could have walked off the stage when they finished One Way To Rock and still would have made it atop Mt. Rushmore. They blew the doors off the fucking place. I thought the roof was going to collapse when Ed and Sam traded solo's. By the end of the tune I, along with everyone else, was fucking stunned.. I'll never forget it. That said- Ed's phrasing was impeccable.. I dare to say right up there with Jeff Beck

I have a strong suspicion that Wolfgang is going to encourage his uncle to join him to gather a 4 man group to legitimately do a tribute for dad, backed by a pre concert LP, and after the tour. A second LP. Wolfgang can just about duplicate his father’s sound, and tone. Without The Alex/Ludwig addition. It does not sound correct at all. The latest Hagar experiment was a great shot at it, but for many reasons. It fell very short. I was screwd by Sammy, by not having Joe play His Vegas dates at the end of the tour. I paid good money to see Joe pay tribute to Edward. I did not buy the ticket to listen to Sammy. That is for sure. I give Sammy credit, for his efforts. I also saw the show in Concord,Ca. My seats were just not good enough, so I bought tickets Early August to see them with a better view. But no Joe. No explanation either. Sammy forever Ticked me off. Big time. But the sound. Percussion was not good enough August 1rst or October 4th this year. Michael is in contract with Sammy to do a Vegas only residence at the MGM. So, chances are reduced. I will not be going to Vegas that is for sure.

This the closest eddie van halen ever got to being on the same stage at the same time.sammy is playing a rhoads jackson in this clip. Now it is true randy's band quiet riot and van halen were on the same bill at glendale college on 4/23/77 which would have been awseome to see. Van halen 1 had dropped by then so vh headed the bill.randy and eddie would have and never did jam together......2 totally different attitudes where randy was laid back and happy to share his gifts and knowledge as he was after all a guitar teacher and eddie who lets face it,could be arrogant and dismissive to the point of turning his back on the audience so as to not give his "secrets" away would have ever jammed with someone who many thought eventually was his equal playing wise. If i could ever ask sammy one question it would be if eddie ever commented on his rhoads Jackson who i would argue is more iconic that eddies frankie guitar.......in the 80' up until today you saw countless Rhoads V's in influential players hands.just my opinion
