Thank you, thank you, Bob! Just this morning I was praying and asking God for a way to live and travel without having to get a regular job to the save money. I am so ready to get on the road, it almost hurts. I will be looking into this job, starting today. Also, I was always wondering if there were other African American people, especially women living the nomad lifestyle. I guess I knew there was but I haven't seen them represented as much. I am so happy to see someone who looks like me that also enjoys living on the road. I appreciate your channel, I watch it all the time. One day I look forward to meeting you in person! Is it just me or did she come across as well polished and knew how to express herself and answer all the questions you may have while listening to her. I researched this a few years back and the one thing that kept popping up was people being charged for damages after delivering the vehicle, sometimes months down the road and having to pay all or part of their earnings back. It wasn't just one person, but multiple after multiple parties claiming they had been blindsided. It was as if it was an uncertain scam between the transporter and the purchaser. The only way I can see past that is making a videotape after each delivery with a representative who works for the purchaser. Not quite sure if pictures would be as formidable. Another thing that was odd is for every 20 drivers or so they recruited, only a couple last after a month or so. High turnover rate is a huge red flag. In short, along with the mileage and earnings not adding up as some have noted, I wouldn't look at this as a way to make a living but a way to see the country after you finish making a delivery. But even after that, have a video to prove it was delivered without damage. Don't get ahead of your expectations. Be wise and think for yourself.

At@20:39 she talks about being a 1099 subcontractor. It’s true you can write off just about anything related to the job, but social security will know about this when you apply, so can wind up with less soc-sec benefits. Because if your able to write so much off, the IRS Social Security relationship will assess you not having paid enough taxes relative to your job. So your benefit calculation totals will end up being lower.

I was so excited when I watched this interview, I said finally something I can do and enjoy it to. I went to the website mentioned and they require CDL, 20,000 miles of over the road experience (not vacation miles but related work experience) for driving one of the motorhomes. If you have a pickup it must be 3/4 ton duel axle Diesel Equipped for 5th wheel and travel trailer and many other items, too many to number. And the 100's of warnings that RV hauling in general is not profitable. Well at least I got excited for 29 minutes

I got excited for a whole evening, I'm about to lose my current job and was so excited for this hope, the one evening I just spent felt like a whole year of walking on air that was then squashed. I wish this source was more vetted before being posted. When I returned for the evening and had a chance to properly research everything, it didn't take that long to see that the industry as described is bunk. Bob just said that he credits his viewers with researching a job before applying, but if a fraction of the time spent filming, editing and posting this video was spent researching, well that's a lot of cummulative time spent shooting hopes up, then crashing them down. I'm so bummed.... :(

No such thing as a pot of gold landing on your lap. If you love driving & making money become a company truck driver. They pay for everything. You work for it though. It always irks me that people always have an excuse in why they can’t do something. Just go out and do it.
@davidwilcox88015 жыл бұрын
There are multiple companies that do this service that have a varying requirements for getting started as was mentioned in the video. They don't all require CDL, they don't all require a 3/4 ton diesel. Don't give up at the 1st roadblock. Driving over the road is not for everyone. It is actually hard work it takes a while to build-up the tolerance to sit in the seat and drive 500 miles a day.

@azcactusflower17 жыл бұрын
You have the passenger B (you would qualify in their bus division) and they may require the Class B for trailer combination (limited by the weight). Class A would cover the high gvr rv's. I have a Class A, in the transportation industry for 28 year (20 years Teamster). One has do their research...there are games in the industry...and just a short search online, I gleamed some unsettling information...false claims by employer (running on flat tires or damage...all to be paid by the driver). I would probably jump on it if it was union; more driver protection. Otherwise a person would have to video tape a pre-trip inspection and have tire monitoring system.

I would absolutely LOVE to have her job!! Holy crap, HOW do you even get your foot in the door for something like this?? I could do this happily until I retire. Like her, I find driving to be very therapeutic, I have a passion for driving, I love traveling, I love RV's, and my dream in life is literally to live out the rest of my days in an RV camped out in the woods somewhere. I too have no vehicle so I would have to start out like she did, but this kind of job would allow me to save up to buy a vehicle just like she did... I am trying not to get too excited about this, but this seems like exactly what I have been looking for to fix my financial problems and give me some kind of life. I mean really, doing this job would definitely lead me to the goals I so desperately want in life. I've always been held back because of having health issues that make it very hard for me to hold down a steady job. This is something I could do despite my issues. Other than the place she mentioned, Are there places you can contact for driving and delivering RV's... or do you just google what she said and look into it that way? Would love to seriously look into this! I just don't have the foggiest idea who you even talk to or if you need to know the right people to get your foot in the door. Any information you have would greatly be appreciated. That being said, GREAT interview! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. :)

Really...? You don't say...? Gee, I NEVER thought about doing that! You must have mystical intellectual powers that exceed my own! I never in a MILLION years thought about doing that... smart ass. It's like trying to learn a foreign language when you go to a country where you don't speak the native tongue. If you don't know the information to search for, you're not going to get very far. I get that you do a search for "RV transport" but I more so wanted the information on how you get your foot in the door to this type of thing seeing as I don't have the foggiest idea.

$100k/year? Bull! I spent two summers doing this out of Elkhart, IN. Worked for Horizon Transport myself and I guarantee you no one has ever made anywhere near that kind of money delivering RVs. You are paid a flat amount depending on distance involved and you have to buy the fuel to get to the destination, as well as costs to get back... Also, you have a set time limit for deliveries, so there isn't any time to 'vacation' on the way to delivery, and you are certainly not allowed to stray off the shortest route, so detouring a couple hundred miles to visit Yellowstone for example is not an option except on the return trip. I drove deliveries a couple times to Alaska, but mostly to California, and it was a great way to see the country. But there was very little money left at the end of the job/trip. I enjoyed it greatly, but if you think you're gonna make big bucks doing it, you will surely be disappointed.

wrangler - what makes you say that the majority of this channel's viewers are in a desperate financial state? Was there an earnings poll I missed? Don't mean to sound like a troll, despite my screen name, but I suspect you're just making an assumption about people interested in the nomadic life.
@softrolls7 жыл бұрын
Rachel K - I don't read all the posts, but several people out of 28,000 does not sound like "vast majority are in desperate financial state." And that was my point, which Wrangler conceded. I think the more important issue is whether the remuneration claimed in this video is even possible. It sounds too good to be true, as Wrangler pointed out.

Math doesn't equate. 4 years of driving she states 100,000 miles driven x .83 a mile = $83,000/ 4 yrs does not equal the stated $50 to 60 K Net per year.
@davidwilcox88015 жыл бұрын
It is true that whre math and numbers don't add up realistically. I'm a full time flat better and I've driven 500000 miles in 5 years probably a little more. But they don't pay you for all the miles you drive they pay you from zip code to zip code. That being said there are a massive number of deductions allowed for an independent contractor subject to DOT hours of service regulations. Just about everything you do and by on the road is deductible. Plus you're allowed a $63 A-day per diem exemption of which you get to claim 80%.This is per day of travel on the road away from home if you worked 200 days a year it does add up.
@tubetime394 жыл бұрын
And they only pay one way. So 100,000 of paid miles would be 200,000 mi of driving You have to get yourself back. She said she'd go to Tampa or Ft Lauderdale, then go to Key West. So to go key west & home or back to pick up your next delivery is all on you. She pays to go on vacation from delivery location. Yes it pays to get you part way which can be nice if you are retired but it is not a full time job. Unless you have a good pickup , equipped to their specks and pay extra for ins and have a trailer to haul campers and then have back hauls for that trailer. That person might gross $ 100,000.

People be carefull, the numbers don't add up. These RV's average 8 to 9 miles a mile with tail wind. The average gallon of gas is 2.20 or more for diesel fue,l so that averages $0.26 per driven mile. So now we have a whooping $0.57 per driven mile on only one way and you have to find a way to get back to Indiana. in order for her to make $60.000 on a 1099 pay she would have to drive about over 200.000 thousand miles a year. Not to mention full taxes, no benefits an that wonderful 10 % bond to cover the didactable on cargo and liability insurarance that should be paid by the carrier. She is probably a recruiting agent for HorizonTransport. Do I need to say more?

She sure did paint a pretty picture. I've been there, done that. It's not that pretty. Mentioning that she sleeps in the RV was not wise. I've known a couple of people that lost their job (contract) because they got caught sleeping in the units. Anyone interested in this line of work, do some more research by talking to another driver. Not the transport companies, because they fill your head with all these beautiful opportunities that don't exist.

G Keller sounds like she does things her way and she's open about it. No need to knock it. Every person can control what they do. Maybe she doesn't have as much opportunities as others but she sounds happy and it's give and take. Maybe the person on the other side prefers to give a little for less money😊

HorizonTransports website says Drive-Away drivers can sleep in the RVs, just not in the bed, sleep on the couch, or like she said, on the table, in/on your sleeping bag. But she may be embellishing, she estimates she's driven a bit over 100,000 miles over 4 years. Now maybe she's getting paid a lot more than $.83 per mile at some other companies, but if she's only driving around 25,000 miles a year, there's no way she's netting the claimed $60-65k annual she says she is. At $.83 per mile driving around 25,000 miles per year, she'd be bringing in closer to $21k a year. Which isn't terrible, it's close to what I make working 40 hr weeks doing janitorial labor, but she says she's making 3x that. Which doesn't add up. She'd have to be getting paid closer to $2.50 per mile to make that kind of money, or she's driving a lot more than 25,000 miles a year, more like 70k+ miles per year.

Yes, no details given here. You have to get yourself to the pickup point where RV is located and then when you deliver it, you are done. Right there. No pay to get home or back to where your next delivery starts from.

What a nice lady! I never realized that the RVs were personally transported, but now that I think about it - of course! Not like there's a big hauler for RVs like the ones for cars. This was a good video - thumbs up.

I did find one "issue" (for me) on the Horizon website. Under Drive-Away Division Driver Qualifications (say that 3 times fast) was this little tidbit: "Driving experience: No commercial driving experience is required to become a driveaway driver. We do, however, require you to list at least 20,000 miles with a larger vehicle such as a Motorhome, U Haul Truck, Ect., Please list all of your personal and or professional driving experience on your application. Picture of the larger vehicle you drove may be required for review." How does one get 20,000 miles of experience?
@K9River7 жыл бұрын
debinvenice, 20,000 miles is a paltry amount, so once you find a job, it won't take long. Some of the easier jobs to acquire are delivering for a lumber yard (very physical job!), delivering for a beer/wine/pop distributor, delivering for a laundry cleaner, working at a U-haul, deliver for an appliance store, furniture store, mattress store, transport kids in a school bus (very easy to get this job as long as you have a clean driving record, a clean background, and a decent work history!!!), drive bus in an intracity transit system, drive for Greyhound, etc. Many of those don't require a CDL. Those that do, they will teach you. I didn't mention driving for Swift. Any over-the-road jobs like in a semi with a trailer will require up to 6 weeks of training, then a one year commitment driving for that specific company before you can be considered for any other over-the-road job.

What an informative and interesting interview! Thank you to you both for sharing this information. In todays economy with jobs being so hard to find this sounds like a great job for the right person. And Jay did such a good job of describing the requirements and the pay structure in clear language, it was very easy to understand. Plus you asked all the right questions that anyone would ask, so we got all the answers you would need to know. If interviews could win Oscars, this one would be a winner! Happy and safe driving to you both.

Mary Ann Lee It is a very individual choice between size, convenience, economy of scale, and "needs". I am very simple and minimalistic but couldn't be happy in a Prius... apparently there are people that feel the same about a 21' Class B. Personally, I am fine with a hightop (*required*; as i am a tall agorist and choose not to live life bowing to constraints!😁) van. It is up to YOU to determine what you *need* and what you can be comfortable in.😉

I drive coach buses (45 ft) for Amazon Employees into downtown Seattle starting my day at 3:15AM, off at 10ish then back to work between 2- 2:30PM and off at 8PM. It makes it so you have no life or sleep during the week. I'm calling on Monday morning to check it out!!! Thanks so much for this amazing lady sharing her experience and information. Looking forward to exploring more!!

I seen this and nearly spilled my coffee all over everything! Apparently she didn't take accounting or study of economics. We did it for a few years and could see pretty quick that it was a break even or expensive hobby at best. Most of the people who live in Goshen and Elkhart IN know the RV industries dirty little secret. The reason you get 50 to 70% up front is that it takes at least that much for fuel. If you encounter bad weather and have to get off the road your expenses increase and winds over 25 mph you have to get off the road! Break down and your on your own. You have to keep a log book and roll in weigh stations and pay your own fines if you made any mistake or if you are over weight. You are treated as a big rig truck driver by DOT. You don't stay in a hotel because you can't afford it! YOU are responsible for anything even a small scratch your fault or not... that's why you keep a 1500 bond. The dealers want you to wash it so they can find anything to fault you or the manufacture with. You have to wash most units. The dealers, manufactures and dispatch companies don't care about the drivers at all. Most people love doing it so much they refuse to see that they are going deeper and deeper in credit card debt until one day they sober up. You can tell she doesn't have any idea what she really makes in a year. LoL, I can tell you its nowhere near a net of $100K and not at all $50K. those may be gross figures but truly nowhere remotely close to the net figures. I guess if you are homeless it may seem like a thriving life!! ... Horizon? Really! LoL!!! I don't think so, go around and talk to some of the drivers or go to some of the forums and get a taste of the word on the street I had nearly 200,000 miles under my belt before I had to quit to keep from losing any more money! But the industry keeps selling it as a great way to make money!! LoL!!! .... it is fun at first but you won't make money in the end

Part of your comment may true. But delivering a class A, B, or C RV does not require log books or going through weigh station's like OTR truckers. There's no issue being over weight and for all they know you may be grandpa going to Bob's RTR.

Sarah, unfortunately most people don't leave a review unless they're upset. There's a reason we're one of the oldest and largest companies in the country. I think this lady is giving out bad info here. I have done drive away with a Class A CDL and she is not making what she said. When you are paid one way miles you are responsible for round trip. Not always is a delivery available where you drop off you might get stuck driving 1000 miles or more before getting another truck / rv. Also regardless of license class you are required to follow Federal DOT Rules which means running a log book and drug testing. So you can not just go crazy driving whenever you want.
@kitgames11745 жыл бұрын
You are right. She's either making close to $2.50 per mile, or she's driving 70k+ miles per year, there's no way she's making $60-65k annual only driving 25k miles at $.83 per mile.

I find this hard to believe. When I was in grad school, I almost went on a trip from LA to New York with a friend. He decided to finish with just a masters and I decided to continue with my doctorate...but we were friends so I was going to accompany him on a cross country during winter break. He found a gig with one of these companies and we were almost going to do it. But I backed out once I realized how much of an exploitative situation these companies put you in. My friend did the trip alone--paid for hotel, gas, food. He had to be at his destination within a set number of days--only enough for maybe one slightly out of the way trip. He got no pay out of this. It was just the use of the van. There are so many restrictions and you also assume too many liabilities. So yeah, no way.
