You're not ugly Bob. 👍🏼You shouldn't have made that comment. 😐I mean the scenery is pure magic but a lot of folks out here think you have a wonderfully friendly and familiar face to go along with your thoughtful and intelligent and incredibly informative videos. Your videos in fact , are so helpful for folks whose 401k's did a nose dive , are pensionless, are divorced (-$$$$) or just realize that costs vs earnings are a joke and want and need an alternative way to live. I would venture to say folks on the road full time may have had their lives saved .........by you. No more keeping up with people you don't even like, no more bills, oh my gosh. I've got to say, full timing as you describe it, seems like the only way to live! In fact, far from a last resort (no pun intended) I think you could say without reservation (no pun) FTRVING is for anyone, with or without money and wealth, who wants to a live a life that is true and "deliberate" (Henry David Thoreau- "live deliberately"........[or discover at the end of life that you haven't lived at all]. I'd love to watch another video on full time rv philosophy - I'd love to hear all the inspiring stories out there from folks who took this plunge and said, "up yours, keep the f'ing house, I don't give a $@&!; and I'm out of here." Consumerism really is an endless road to nowhere and steals your attention away from the things in life that are truly meaningful. God Bless you and all the nomads out there.

Great information! I keep my residence in Texas for many of the reasons you listed and for my professional license. Texas is a compact state which allows me to practice nursing in 38 different states (without getting all those different licenses). As a travel nurse, this is a significant savings to me and broadens the number of states I can take contract work. I am also a lifelong academic and continue my residence where I am in grad school as well as a grant from the Attorney General for a certification I am seeking. I know these are not common issues for much of your audience, but may be for some.

Bob, I don't know if I told you this, but as a Canadian I set out on trip in 1999 to travel through the US. I was living in Alberta, Canada then (I'm Canadian) and I travelled 10,000 miles through the USA over about 6 weeks. I was in my own travelling in a car, but I spent my nighrs in motels. I was in my mid 40's then. I loved the journey and I wish I could revisit some of the places I had seen. I'm beggining to realize I'm more of a tourist than a vandweller. I love learning new things and seeing new places. We currently live in Wisconsin. Getting a Real Driver's license was super easy for my husband and super hard for me because I am female and my last name has changed twice. I literally had to get my divorce papers from 30 years ago! Along with my birth certificate, my marriage certificate for my current marriage, plus my license from my last residence. It took me months! My husband, however, got his the same day we applied and only had to have his birth certificate! Just a little FYI for the ladies out there. I'm not sure if anything has changed. That was in November 2015 when we got the Real Driver's License.

If your channel hasn't already done so, I'd love to see a video on how to have a voice as a nomad. As I get closer to needing to live in a vehicle, one of the things I am afraid of is being treated worse because I'm not living in a building in a certain town. Right now I am able to write my city council, write local officials, and weigh in on issues of infrastructure, policy, etc. I worry about losing that when I end up having to live in a vehicle. (No shade on folks who willingly want to live in a vehicle...for me it's being impoverished that motivates my interest in vanlife.)

One of the things to take into account, speaking of the safety net in California, is that I believe last July the law changed, whereby if you have to go into a long care facility, you can now keep $160,000 of your assets and still be covered under either Medicaid or Medi-cal (I forget just what it is called.) Some states only allow you to keep something like $2,000.

Wyoming (where I used to live) no state income tax, and for voting, you can sign up the day of a presidential election and vote that day. It has to do with INTENT. All you have to do is state that you are there and your intent is to return and make your home there, then you can register and vote. You may change your mind the next day, lol, but that was your intent, yesterday. Also the UW Healthcare in Casper is based on income, and Dental is available also based on income.

Obamacare created Expanded Medicaid which is very important if you are retired, but not yet 65, and your income is less than $15K per year. Expanded Medicaid is free coverage with very low deductibles. A large net worth will not disqualify you from Expanded Medicaid. The only qualifier is income of less than $15K per year which includes interest, 401K withdrawals, and work. 35 states have adopted Expanded Medicaid. IMO, Kaiser is the best. CA,WA,OR,GA,CO have Kaiser. The site, advisory dot com, has a map showing all states with Expanded Medicaid.

If you travel around a lot, South Dakota would make a lot of sense. It's within 2,000 miles of 48 states, plus big chunks of Canada and Mexico. So if you need to see your doctor, you should be able to drive there in three days or less. If you just need an annual checkup schedule it for the summertime. If it's an emergency, just get to an airport and fly there.

21:25 On the list of no tax states, you forgot Tennessee. Not only does TN not have an income tax, we passed an amendment to the Tennessee Constitution that prohibits the legislature from passing one. They no longer have the authority. I think East Tennessee is a great place to pick up a cheap piece of land and have access to lots of nature and recreation. You're right... there are other factors besides income tax, though that's a big consideration.

Bald Eagle Without researching all the other issues I’ve been kicking around the thought of retiring to eastern TN. Far enough north to be cooler in the summer, far enough south to be warmer in the winter, far enough west to be away from hurricanes, far enough East to be away from tornados, not too far from NC where my brother plans to retire. I’ve been planning to sell my house in IN and hit the road full time, but with a lot of campgrounds shutting down and not letting folks in due to the COVID thing it seems prudent to own a bit of land for a home base you can’t be kicked out of. So now I’m thinking maybe buy a lot in an RV park and rent it out while I travel and don’t need it. So did Bob ever say why some folks are thinking of TN for domicile?

@@MichaelBrown-kk6ck TN is a very solid retirement destination. I've been here for decades but the real estate environment has changed drastically in the last ten years. East Tennessee is a beautiful area - I lived there for 7 years. However, they do have state taxes on income. I never thought about choosing a state of residence! Great subject material and lots to think about. I'm sure some things may change after the 2020 election but at lease I have some ideas of what I need to research before i go full time on the road. thanks! btw, I love watching your dog!

To me, this video with so many of the topics you discuss are GREAT and so much more informative and potentially life changing for the better if addressed prior to there becoming a serious issue, than so many other videos out there. It's nice to see an experienced person like yourself pointing out some of the landmines and potential pitfalls that newbies and others would be wise to be mindful of as they embark on their journeys. Your repeatedly reminding people that you're not so much providing the answers as you are providing some suggestions of what to consider getting answers to. Answers we'd all be wise to look for that are best suited to us individually. Of course, not knowing about so many of the underlying issues out there that we might wish to be privy to makes it difficult to know what questions to ask and you did a GREAT job of pointing some of them that for me had me thinking what other nuanced subjects could be discussed in similar fashion. Hoping to see and hear more. Thanks again for sharing your time and wisdom!

My GOD these videos are good! I am on Medicare, A.B.C. D. and F. I will ONLY use Encompass for my rehab hospital.. They are Natural and will only take those people committed to recovery. The last time was last Nov 2023 after spending 2 weeks in three hospitals. They demand 5 hours of rehab a day, Also when I came out, even though I had outpatient therapy for some months, I then went into cardiac therapy. This is really important because I didn't understand how much cardiac therapy would help me with both stamina and endurance, not to mention walking correctly, instead of the "walker waddle" Learning fall protection techniques is one of the most important things we seniors need to do! Falls are the number one disabler and killer of seniors, since ifit succeeds in making us bedbound, we are more likely to die from compound situations like pneumonia! Thank you for these videos!

Nevada does have an 8 year driver's license now (only 4 year for 65+.) In Texas it can be 6 years. Both states have yearly emissions tests in some cities.(Las Vegas, Reno, DFW, Austin, Houston, El Paso.) Both states have no state income tax and have the same sales tax - 8.25%.) Nevada has a bunch of other taxes Texas does not have though. You may need a state, county, and city business permit (tax) ranging from roughly $700-$15,000 per year in Nevada. Yes, that is every year. In Texas, this is a foreign concept. If you want to do anything self-employed, you may want to consider this. Nevada also has, for some wage occupations, "work cards," where you pay a fee and get police permission to have a job. Again, in Texas, this is unheard of. A food handler's permit is (reasonably) required in both states for those working with food.

Arizona drivers license is not renewed until you reach the age of 65. I opted to get a new one in 2010 due to change of address and I don't have to get an new one again until 2026. The max vehicle registration you can currently get is for 2 years.

Once you become a Texan, or just plain lucky enough to have been born and raised in that glorious country, you'd understand how deeply held the love and respect for this great state endures. The various terrains and wide openiness of the land, the people, our history and traditions are all integral parts of our identity. You must first live, travel, and get to know the real people of our state in order to understand.

Texas IS a nice place..however, the residents there are have subjectivity. Where most mature, intelligent human beings can say: "I love my state, and Im proud to be there..and I know others feel the same". Texans comprehend approximately half of that. They think that if they love their state, then no one else can love theirs. Its like the old motto; the only things wrong with Texas are the people.
@JackBarrett75 жыл бұрын
@@hurricanealley8602 I cant tell if youre just assuming someone you dont know, or if youre genuinely stupid on a level previously unintroduced into normal society. I sincerely doubt youve seen a fraction of as much of Texas as I have, nor have met as many Texans as I have. People like you are the reasons ppl say about Tx what they do: uneducated adult adolescents who wouldnt know subjectivity if it impregnated them. Grow up, jethro. The world is round.

Not sure if you know this one, but here's some info i found about Texas. I do live in texas. It is possible to register yout vehicles in texas without having an inspection done. There's a form on txdmv called VTR270. You can register the vehicle when out of state and upon the vehicle entering the state it must then be inspected.
@singmysong11673 жыл бұрын
I live in Texas too, first D/FW area then Waco, and I have also had to pay for an inspection then registration yearly, usually $75+ @ year.

My van registration is every year. My domicile state is Indiana. All I do is go to the BMV website(mybmv) and renew my registration that way. I use my parents address for everything. They can forward any important mail like my auto registration and tags. Of a location I'm going to be at for a while. About everything I do, I do online and paperless.

Yes, but they rarely approve Concealed Carry Permits for most regular law abiding citizens. Good News though! If you live in Illinois & donate enough money to your local politician's campaign fund, and he or she wins the campaign, your Concealed Carry Permit will get APPROVED! So there is "HOPE"?

Dawn Moser Lot of restrictions in Illinois as to what you can carry, how big a magazine you can own, where you can carry... be careful. Even more restrictions city-by-city.
