It's hard for me not to believe that "Foreign Window" is more about Dylan than Van Morrison lets on in the commentary, given how much the words fit Dylan's life. Regardless, the fact that it fits Dylan so much, along with the intimacy in the midst of grandeur, makes this blurry video one of the most beautiful musical moments ever recorded.

Raglan Road was a poem written by Patrick Kavanagh, in fact if you walk up to the canal at upper Baggot St, Dublin you'll see the monument of Kavanagh sitting there-he wrote it about a lost love whom he encountered many years before, it's a touching poem and was first sung by Luke Kelly, but I like Van's rendition.

When you quote someone, it'd be helpful to use "quotes" around the quote, so we could know where the quote begins and ends. And, really luv, is it so painful to use caps and punctuation, so we can know also where the sentences begin and end? Ulysses was more pure shite for the lack of grammar and punctuation. Far more. Are we all sloppy, bloody little Joyces with our sloppy sms-ing?. No, we're not. Clean it up. Fly right. The ghost of SisterMary Cupcake is standing behind you with a ruler if yer don't, a gold star if yer does.

You gotta understand that being a singer and performing in public is a very intense mental and psychic activity. To remember the words to a song - especially a new one - is something you have to isolate out of hundreds of other songs and lyrics and not get mixed up or distracted. Someone like Van Morrison or Dylan or Eric Clapton - you can't do other stuff - you can't drop the performance and searching spirit to like go seduce that pretty thing over there or go party with a bunch of admirers - who's company would most likely depress you to an extreme as they are so intensely focused ALL THE TIME. It's a choice to live a different dimension - for ever - for life - it's not a once in a while thing - if you stop for a while it's a very unstable identity problem that develops. Are you a 'civilian' as Elvis referred to non players. You are directly involved in trench warfare to the end. There is not place to escape the pressure to. The reward is to be in the moment. To be in the realm ofthe poetic in the moment - it IS LIFE. You LIVE poetry - which is to say the algorithms of metaphor - which is the cauldron of language and the storhouse of MEANINGS in life. We were very misled by all that Hindu stuff. There is no 'enlightenment' like a final destination on a bus trip. there is no end of the line - you will die pursuing the same dream - and half the dream is just the avoidance of the mundane meaninglessness of the acceptance of cardboard figures as being actual people - people are like stargates into other dimensions very complex and dangerous entities who want a free ride, a free hit of creative energy without doing the foot work, the emotional survival to reach a point that is beyond what is already interpreted. It's all new in the poetic realm and you stretch and strive to keep up with it and not fall back and become a mannequin without a central sun.

Awesome thoughts and elucidation! I never heard it said .... Pros vs civilians 🤗 These two are peers and it must have been a great for them to spend some time with another soul who gets the whole picture of what it's like to be the center "sun" of a galaxy of talents and working musicians who have families whose well being depends to a significant extent on you. Bob and Van . Two slightly grumpy artists who have much in common, the greatest thing is their connection to the Almighty in a very authentic and individual way. They do not preach... They just lead by example. Deep souls serving Somebody.
