"Caravan" is a song that has been a part of my life since I first heard it shortly after the album came out. My brother Philip turned me on to his music. Van still performs and puts out records. Finally got to see him perform in 2020, before the lockdown. Fantastic concert...fantastic band he had put together too!

Longtime Van Morrison fan, this is iconic for so many reason, first of all so uncharacteristic of him to be so open, he was notoriously shy on stage. I am sure alcohol was involved! The Band ... their expressions, they could be wtheck emojis! and of course the jumpsuit! lol The Band was always perfect. Their playing was impeccable and versatile and fun. My favorite of favorites Van Morrison songs is Someone Like You.

This takes me back to Wednesday nights when all the girls would come to my house to Prep for a night out. I had a great bong called the Chimney and a very nice bar if I do say so myself. Here is some intel for you. Van the Man grew up a very poor kid in Northern Ireland and he used to run home everyday so he could listen to the radio that had American military channel. His idol in his youth, the one he dreamed of being like? Ray Charles. He made it too. He has become an epic singer and at that Last Waltz concert he was living just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, in Marin County. That is why it was so easy for him to participate in that legendary concert. From a dirt poor kid in Northern Ireland to a pop star in America and beyond. Thank You Ray Charles.

Van was so incredibly drunk during this he got a case of stage fright. One of the stage handlers had to shove him out on stage. Then he nails this legendary live performance. You can see how utterly amused Robbie Robertson is when Van devolves into the leg kicks. Lol

It doesn't get much better than seeing and hearing Van the Man backed by the Band, one of the greatest groups of all time. Van is a superstar. I had front row for Van about two years before The Last Waltz concert, Capitol Theater in NJ. Can this guy sing or what! Other favorites from Van are "Jackie Wilson Said", "Saint Dominic's Preview", "Wild Night", "Moondance." Van had a couple of rock hits in the mid '60s with his band, Them. Those are "Gloria", and "Here Comes the Night."

@@CarolynStewart-v5q I'm originally from a small town in Bergen County called New Milford. I don't know if you're familiar with it, and I lived in Hackensack for many years as well. I loved that drive to the Capitol several times a month back in the '70s to see some of the greatest bands ever. I also used to make it a point to stop off at the Passaic Book Center to buy back issues of comic books and magazines back in the day. Thanks for the reply!

Van The Man blasting Caravan at The Last Waltz is always an amazing reminder of his talent, "Caravan" is a song full of gypsies, travel, and community. It's a song about the open road and music, a general celebration of freedom. Van always has a message in all his songs. You should give his Album 'IT's TOO LATE TOO STOP NOW' a song-by-song listen. It's one of the great Live Albums that captures Van at his best.,

Do the whole doc...Scorsese's "The Last Waltz".... kind of defined the genre...RockDoc... It's especially one-of-a-kind as it was The Band's official 'sign-off, on Thanksgiving, no less. Big meal, then an All-Star, Heavy Hitter line-up. You probably know all this a thousand times over...but no reactors that I see have done this. It's historic in music history terms...and no one has ever had a more graceful, unique, classy exit. Your fam would LOVE it.

Van is probably my fav musically. Listened to the original of this song on my walks for decades and it always put a spring in my step. My son would’ve been born to the original if he’d been born a minute earlier! Yeah I made mixed tapes for my delivery! Hahaha. Also at 49 I married my second husband in my backyard. I walked down to Vans “Someone Liike You” which fit us perfectly. My dog even decided to walk me down. And our first song was Van’s “Have I Told You Lately” (most people know the Rod Stewart remake). Love Van. And absolutely love this version. The Last Waltz is a great concert film!!❤

The Band stayed on stage with the performers and played the various artists songs for them. They are very versatile musicians and as you said "they can play!" If you watch the movie the last waltz, the 1st song in the movie is actually the final song they did at the concert. After a long jam with all the artists that were there at the end, they said goodnight and went back stage, changed clothes and were pretty wiped. 20 minutes later the concert promoter went back k stage and said" nobody has left, you have to do another song". That is why in the 1st song in the movie they looked beat, but still did a good rendition. 1st class act.

The Last Waltz is a fabulous show, great album and a full length movie. Caravan is one of my favourite Van Morrison songs. Van is really hands on in in his arrangements but he had to consult with Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm who were also hands on in the arrangement of this. It's a bit hurried IMHO. If you want to hear a more Van like arrangement live, check out the 11 minute version of Caravan on It's too Late to Stop Now.
