I know this an old video, but to answer everyones question. yes the readings were right. Van Staal VSX gen1 even with the upgraded drag knob gave me 12lb at best. Van Staal decided it was a good idea to drop the thickness of the drag washers from 1mm to .75mm and add more for a smoother drag.. too this day I'm still trying to make washers to make the reel better

That’s a shame for $800 reel. I have 6 van staal but the older ones and never had problems with drag. My VS150 gives you about at least 30lb drag.

If ur using a 20 dollar scale ur probably not getting a good reading.

If you can fish properly you wont need super tight drag anyway . Its only there to stop the line from snapping .
