That's incredibly lazy and hateful reasoning. There are architects and structural engineers to convince the city of designs, but they can't measure every stall or look inside every box. I am sure there is a corrupt inspector somewhere, but you can't just point and say, "this is it!". This is much more likely an developer oversight or unethical cost saving measure. Put the pitchfork and tiki torches away.

Yup. They tell you in the contract if the spot with be regular size or small. Smaller condos typically will be allocated the smaller spots.

Buyer beware: You should have checked out the parking space, storage space, requested 6 months of HOA meeting minutes, HOA Bylaws, restrictions, garbage and recycle container rules all before purchasing. As a courtesy, the Realtor should have mentioned these. Good luck.

I get very annoyed when I have a legit small car and I see an suv in a “small car” space. My car would be able to fit because I’d back in at an angle more towards the pillar, my side mirror would be behind the pillar - I do it all the time. What bugs me even more is when a huge truck parks next to me right on the line in what should also be a space for small cars.

This frustrating issue has been going on for decades at the expense of the public. Squeeze as many parking stalls as possible. Ever since the 90s, cars has grown in tremendously in size. They get longer, wider and taller. And ironically, parking stalls become narrower and narrower. The best existing parking space out there today are the Richmond centre mall and Lansdown mall. The worst and most ridiculous of all I ever experience is the Waterfront hotel in Vancouver. Shameful and ridiculous for a high end hotel! This parking stall issue has to be rectified immediately. Cars are not the same size as in the 80s!! We have idiots working at City Hall that are not competent.

Totally agreed for a property that physically exists, but if you buy a new condo development, they are selling the units often before they break ground at the site. So if you went to the place where they were building the condo and look down at your spot, you are literally looking down into the ground and imagining, which to my mind doesn't give you much perspective as to the parking lot size 😀

Since condo parking are common property, it is up to the strata council to swap out parking stalls. But the chance of another owner wishing to swap out their regular size stall with a small car is rare.
