Why do you hang the drywall horizontally? If you have it vertically you won’t see joins because the sides have valleys where the top and bottom of the drywall sheet does not.
@justincarter7954

It makes the wall stronger because the studs run vertically. hanging the drywall horizontally means each sheet is hanging on a higher number of studs. same reason you run joists perpendicular to beams and subfloor perpendicular to joists

If you are a beginner, don’t use 45 or 90 minute mud. Use mud already mixed. And never prefill a butt joint, unless there is a big gap between the two pieces. But joints are harder to do because they don’t have a concave area for the tape and mud. So the idea is to have it as thin as possible, and float the area out wide to hide the hump you will create.

@@ryanmcgowan3061 this is a mistake, prewetting the tape is exactly what would make it detach... i used to do it too for a short period... but it doesn't make sense... when you do that, the paper is already moist, when used dry tape over wet mud, the tape pulls in the moisture from the mud and with it a small amount of mud glue and mud particles, that's what creates the actual bond... when the tape is already wet there is no way it can pull in that moisture and glue from the mud under it, the "pores" are already full

Why would you prefill a butt joint? The idea is to create less of a hump as possible. If you prefill you are creating more of a hump to try and make disappear. Never prefill a butt joint unless you have a gap between the two pieces of Sheetrock. When you have a butt joint, you will be creating a hump, so you want the least amount of mud there as possible. Make sure you float the joint out wide to hide the hump. If you prefill all you are doing is adding mud you don’t need.

Prefill is filling the low voids only. Pull it tight and it doesn't build up. In some cases the joint is humped before any mud is applied and guys will make a flat area for the tape to set so it doesn't ridge out from the edges of the rock being the highest point in the joint. That happens because the framing is off and the hanger didn't chose a good stud to land on.

I think he talked about this in other videos. IIRC, pre-wetting tape helps to prevent bubbles but often causes it to lose its tensile strength, so seam cracks are more likely down the road. Instead, apply more mud under the tape before applying and bubbles are much less common.
