Thanks Vanessa for sharing it. I try keeping your insights in mind when I carry myself around at work. I need to practice controlling my hand gestures but for some reason I end-up putting my hands together on the table, in pockets, etc. Any tips on how to improve hand gestures during business communication to exude confidence, get acknowledgement, and be likeable? Thank you!

That's why I've pretty much given up on finding a girlfriend. I have the posture, walk and stance of a soldier; the presence of the 11th doctor, and Harrison Ford's tired eyes and half smile. I can't say that makes a great first impression.

nice research and tips given thanx it was quite helpful ..... but i believe at the end being yourself is very important, do not try to impress go with the flow naturally other wise it might be suffocating trying to remember all those gesture. but being your self does not mean be arrogant or cocky. just be generous , compassionate indiscriminately and be a deep listener and meditate. peace

First impressions aren’t the strongest impressions though. But sometimes people won’t give a 2nd chance, but if they do and actually take time to get to know someone. Also, first impressions do not stay with us, because this one woman’s first impression was incredible, but now I’m not so sure about her character at all, after all this time.

Your recommendation: People sitting with their toes inwards always signalize shyness, weakness, (already we see this by kids a lot and its then also true) On the stage we have never thought not he's/she's pointing with his /her shoes to the audience ?

"If you're depressed or in an anxious mood, people will pick up on this." Well f***, that pretty much kills it right there. It seems like I'm in a constant low-key depression. And what if you're not feeling calm, confident or powerful? What am I supposed to do, fake it? I thought I was supposed to be myself. This channel is not for people like me.

So is the world split into two groups of people? The ones who are trying everything they can think of to make a good impression/not be boring/seem confident and happy... And then the people that group are trying to impress, who sit back and live their lives and simply judge the first impression/interest level/confidence of the people around them? Or, are we all in that first group and we're all just trying to impress each other simultaneously?

I'm great at first impressions. It's once people start talking to me for a prolonged time and they realise I'm actually an anxious wreck underneath all of the superficial posturing that the problem arises. You can look and sound as confident as you like, but if you don't actually feel that way underneath all of these little tricks are effectively pointless.
