I just looked it up and the 396 big block was an option for 1966 on the El Camino and when you ordered the big block you got the 12 bolt rear. I also noticed it has p.s. p.w.r. brakes and factory a.c. I would definitely convert it to a five speed tremec trans and 295 50r 15s out back. The first ss El Camino came out in 1968 so this car is totally correct. With a few upgrades, but I still love it

I, too, enjoy the appearance of this 66 El Camino. As I grow older, 66, I, too, would rather see manual transmission. Then again, automatic transmission is all that is needed with the big block 396 V8 engine. Half car half truck. Thank you for the review!!
