Vanity was a treasure. Prince was never able to replace her. He had control issues, controlled everybody and everything around him. Controlled vanity also. I feel Bobbie genuinely like and care about Vanity. She was always seeking interviews with Vanity and she was always respectful of her. She never undermined anything Vanity would say or feel and she always gave her the respect of letting her finish her answers. Most everyone else that interviewed Vanity was a bit rude or tried to make her feel like she was only beautiful but not smart. Actually Vanity was extremely smart!!! Most people don’t know she was an artist that painted, draw, sculpted, wrote poetry, wrote music, including singing and dancing. And very few know that after she left the entertainment world… for a while she was Director of Public Relations for a computer company.

Love, love, LOVE me some Vanity/Denise Matthews!!! What a stunningly gorgeous Black woman she was!!! Being the class act that she was, she didn't reveal the REAL reason why she didn't do Purple Rain...Prince didn't want to compensate her fairly for being his co-star.
@lisha77743 жыл бұрын
In her autobiography book “Blame it on Vanity”; she left Prince suddenly without warning even though they were in love, because he was constantly cheating which made her jealous, so she also retaliated and started to make him jealous too. They were in love, the relationship was very intense but also toxic. To keep her sanity she left his world and decided to focus on her own dreams which turned into a hellish experience. She knew Prince was afraid of losing her completely so cashing a small cheque meant he would still have control over what she did. It was coming from a place of love. She left but that wasn’t the end as they were on and off into the 90s. She decided to stop seeing him when she accepted full time work as a minister for God. They kept in contact over via phone and letters and remained in love despite taking different life journeys. Prince’s 2016 Piano and Microphone tour was filled with the love songs he wrote about Vanity. From Dirty Mind to his last album Hit n Run Phase Two, had songs inspired by her. The other women simply did not have the same effect on him. He was not the same after she died 💔

@@vminajj1267 Hands down! Vanity must have been special to make him feel love of such depths. In “Adore” he said “Without you there is no me”.. he was never truly happy without her by his side. Mayte was mistreated & her parents were just as naive and blind as she was. I think Prince’s abusive childhood caused his narcissism and split personality. I admired and felt sorry for him. Prince only married Mayte to get one up on Vanity who married the year before. He chose the wedding theme as “Coincidence or Fate”... some alarm bells! He was in tears singing “The Beautiful Ones” after Vanity died and had to leave the stage after “A Case of You”. THEN said “We need a new story Oakland, it’s time for a new story” at his last concert and is found in his elevator 7 days later. Vanity’s song “7th Heaven” came to mind... but Lord knows! I suspect Prince was battling a chronic illness too but Vanity was definitely on his mind. I hope they reunited ☔️💜

She and Prince were both two hurt people who had unresolved trauma from childhood. The fact that they lived as long as they did is a blessing though neither had a smooth ride even in adulthood, moreso Denise as a woman with limited talent and addiction challenges. Prince was a genius and made other people famous because of his talent. How deeply painful it must have been to be abandoned once again by those who claimed to love him. He was a young man and a rock star so I can't hold it against him for having multiple women, the majority of us are guilty of that in our youth. I think her thirst for success in addition to the hurt from him being unfaithful were both contributors to their separation. They were both guilty for hurting eachother like in any relationship. Too bad they didn't last. Purple Rain would have been awesome with her as leading lady, no doubt. Her career would have been so rich had she stayed close, no doubt, cause ya boy can write hits. I also think he would have had the opportunity to be a father had they remained together. He also would not have died alone, no doubt. They both had child-like wonder and were beautiful beyond the external. They seemed to complement eachother. We'll never really know. May they both rest in Paradise.
