this is super late, but the entire key situation here is in queen for a day when varian is asking rapunzel for help with his father. when he pretty much just grabs onto her arms and tries to pull her away from the room to come help out of desperation, nigel calls the guards in to throw him out and pretty much starts/lets the rumor spread that varian attacked rapunzel. so we can blame that on nigel. the issue beyond that is rapunzel letting that rumor spread even after she found out about it.

Love little rant like thank you though I was only one who felt that way. Also love fact that she didnt even bkther to stop the fake rumors that where being spread of him so called "harming the princess". And then fact that they kicked the poor kid back out into the most deadlyest snow storm..like what happens if he got sick or worse died from it...then what " your highness" how would you feel about your friend then...least you could have done was stop the gaurds and let him stay on the castle till the storm died down...but you didnt. Sorry as you can tell I freaken love Varian and I kinda wish the queen got same situation Quirin did so Rapunzel and the king can understand how he felt cause after all. Quirin did lie to the king...however the king also knew about the situation and did nothing to really stop it besides give people new land that would eventually get taken over by the rocks anyway so pointless. 😅 But yeah Im glad varian turned himself back into the dorkish little nerdy guy we love. Dont get me wrong I love dark varian (wish there was more of him) but i like the good varian more. And wish the didnt reject Varian and the seven kingdoms...hopefully they change their minds on it...be nice to see a side story on him and shoot maybe even cass and her adventures.

This is my opinion:- Rapunzel- they f****ked her up in the series. Thats it. I am not saying anything else. Raps didn't feel like raps after s2, the bubbling energy that made raps raps was gone. Eugene - he was only there for comedic relief - the writers felt sorry for him and gave him a prince of the dark kingdom arc. Cassandra- she was a good character. Her personality was built up and they made her memorable... But until s2 last episode - her villain arc didn't make any sense. Her villain arc felt forced and not needed at all. Being gothel's child, it was truly heartless for gothel to leave her but she ignored and was oblivious of the fact that gothel didn't love raps either and used her for her hair. They gave her a redemption arc but sent her away on a quest at the end... Varian - he is so far, by far the best character in the series. His villain arc, redemption arc was so perfectly executed its worth praising for. I mean he was just trying to save his father, he didn't have any other selfish reasons to be a villain. His redemption arc also felt fresh and good, i am so happy the writers did such a good job for him. It felt clear to me at the end that the writers who wrote cass's villan arc did NOT WRITE VARIAN'S villain arc.
