this is super late, but the entire key situation here is in queen for a day when varian is asking rapunzel for help with his father. when he pretty much just grabs onto her arms and tries to pull her away from the room to come help out of desperation, nigel calls the guards in to throw him out and pretty much starts/lets the rumor spread that varian attacked rapunzel. so we can blame that on nigel. the issue beyond that is rapunzel letting that rumor spread even after she found out about it.

I actually hate that Varian is being conflated with Lucifer from Hazbin Hotel just because they share the same voice actor. Just... no! Love little rant like thank you though I was only one who felt that way. Also love fact that she didnt even bkther to stop the fake rumors that where being spread of him so called "harming the princess".
