I thought for a while that something is wrong because he was still in the bed most of the time and Bianca was just laying there broken whole game, I though he might have Solas locked inside of him somehow but the actual truth surprised me. Also playing on a new character you really start noticing a lot more stuff pointing towards that.

yeah i was suspicious when i read the codex entry from harding to charter where she vaguely says "i'm assuming you got my last letter about varric" and suddenly i realized that literally nobody else was ever mentioning what happened to him or speaking to him. also one of harding's keepsakes is a bolt from bianca, which felt strange given that at the time we're meant to assume he survived and she'd have no reason to be sentimental over it

I havnt played the game and probably wont till its on sale but I saw that intro cutscene and thought it was such a solid death scene that I was kind of mad that he was in the bed. Felt like it was a cop out to an actual solid piece of writing. I'm glad to see the game actually does have some stakes to it.

Got to the fade thinking nothing can be worse than the scene that just happened.....oh I was so very wrong. Ugly cried. I'd been visiting him after nearly every mission to see if he was getting better! It was well done, there are clues in other characters comments and behaviour that you don't really see until you know the truth.

I wasn't ready. There was a point i started wondering why no one else except Rook went to check on him, which i thought was rude. But then at one of the library briefings, Rook says something about Varric in past tense, and I was like, wait...what? But then didn't really think on it as I went to the next companion thing. Then rewatching this scene from my save, I noticed Varric looks at us, not Rook, but us....as he says Yeah, Sorry about that kid. On your video...@ the 3:32 mark. I was not ready. The sobs that hit.......oof.

Truth be told, I guessed the twist after a few hours of playing. Quite recently I watched 6th Sense with Bruce Willis, so.... No one asked about Varric, no one talked about him, moreover, in every cutscene, even when he spoke, no one ever turned their head towards him and commented on his words. After the first or second dialogue I found it strange, but afterwards I was already sure that I was talking either to some image, memory of him.... or a spiritual being.

I always figured something was not right. So this didn't really came as a surprise for me. Also, yet something else from the past BioWare wanted to get rid of, Ferelden, Kirkwall, all of Inquisition. I hate that about Veilguard just completely erasing OUR History in Thedas. I get they wanted a clean slate but then just not mention anything about past DA instead of killing everything and everyone.

Was Varric a self-insertion of one of the writers? I mean, he's been in 3 of the 4 games, he's a writer himself, a lover (not to your character), adventurer, a main character and narrator in DA2 and he has the only crossbow in all of Thedas.

Well if you ignore the entire weapon class in Dragon Age:Origins, and the enemy faction that uses crossbows in a major questline in Inquistion then sure I guess that's true.

I got 20 hrs in and fell asleep. Gone back to BG3. Was thinking maybe playing again but they deleted the only character I like in this one. BioWare sucks😡

@@StoneAgeWarfare one guy - no. A collective trashing of their game as slop is gonna paint a bad picture for the investors therefore we have 2 options. Option 1 - the development team will make their next project better by listening to specifically valid points from the audience. Option 2 - the development team will learn nothing and continue to spiral into the dirt as we can see with Ubisoft for example. It's important to note that investors only care about the money that comes back to them and can close their eyes to the bad rep as long as the amount of money overshadows that.
