Riot devs have released a preseason preview article - TLDR they're promising objective comebacks that doesn't require you to kill the enemy with a high bounty. How it will play out I'm not sure - its an attempt to fix the game but it can easily mess up too.

So, part of League's big problem is that people want shorter games and more fights? Hmmmmmmmm, if only there was a map where that was the main focus. Maybe it could only have two lanes, with two big, juicy objectives in between them, that way there's almost always a fight to pick? Maybe the objectives could be the equivalent of giving red and blue to your entire team. Maybe the game mode could only have 3 players to a team as well, that way the small map doesn't get overcrowded. Maybe it could even have it's own unique epic monster. I'm sure if Riot made that map they wouldn't neglect it into oblivion. Oh, what? You think they would INTENTIONALLY sabotage it by flooding it with bots so they have an excuse to shut it down? Why, sir! Such a bold accusation!

It's not really about game time, but the snowball mechanics. Teams that win early game get so much advantage it's hard for their enemies to catch up. It is also that players know how hard it would be to comeback from a laneing phase disadvantage, so people just stop trying. Some comeback mechanics can really help players' mentals to reward sticking with early-game failures and keep playing the long game.

A very simple but radical solution: reduce the amount of gold that kills reward significantly. I'm talking like 150 gold. The thing is that kills lead to a statistical advantage but also a map pressure advantage. Emphasize the map pressure advantage. Bring back the old 5-stack dragons, let people buy a limited amount of green wards again. So, the winning team can still pick more favourable fights and dictate the macro situation, but their statistical advantage from having a lot of kills is much more reduced. Players will still want to fight in order to make killing the nexus easier, but it might not be worth it to stop the splitpusher anymore when they only give a cannon and a half worth of gold and have a green ward guarding the approach. If removing players from the map by forcing them to back and finishing the kill are much less different, then poke compositions can make a comeback. A lot of things can happen from this. You wouldn't need to change the base gameplay very much but player behaviour will be much more different just off of this one change. Why go for the risky flashy play when I can get the same advantage by just denying a wave and a half from my opponent?
@G0nzaloCoronel3 жыл бұрын
As much as I want this to happen, they'll never do that, and it's because it's not flashy. They want you to watch proplay, where they do these fast paced, outplay festivals, and end the game in 15-20 mins. Watching people turtle out bores the public, and that's the problem for me at least: they focus SO MUCH on proplay that they completely neglected everyone else and forgot that this is not a show, it's a game.

how about something to, not only endorses teamworking, but also forcing you to help your teammates to grow as much as you do, if you want to finish the game? like, something to disencourages the 1v9 thing. If the team doesn't have the advantage well distributed among the five players, the siege simply will NOT happen properly, giving the enemy team a chance to explore this vulnerability, and possibly comeback to the game. So you would have no other choice but push yourself to help all your teammates to grow at gold and XP.

But this is still a teamplay based game, you can't just win by yourself most of the times. You need your teammates help as well as they need YOUR help. Most of the time people flame cuz they think they are better than the rest of the people on that match. They refuse to listen, help or wait. And what does Riot says about it? "If you played better that teammate would not be a problem". So I guess that my midlaner that spent 15 min crying then 10 afk in base is my fault somehow.

This video reminded me of a silly strategy my friends perfected for a while in season 10. (Gold elo, and generally in premade team) and they would play Ziggs and Tahm botlane, rush CDR and split push using Tahm's R. They managed to get a pretty decent winning streak of around 12~ games I think. I also think the only reason it worked was because they could suddenly appear on the map and the fact that Ziggs alone can take down a tower in 15 or so seconds with items. They would win even when the enemy would have a giant gold lead likely due to the map pressure but I digress, it was a long time ago.

I guess it is the snowball-y state the game has been forced into by Riot. Due to many gold aquisition changes Riot has done over the years, like additional 100 gold per first blood, bigger gold accumulation from farming, tower plates giving huge amounts of gold etc, every single mistake made leads to massive gold disavantages, thus stressing players and destimulating them from actively trying to make comebacks. Pair that with the fact that, through numerous of changes (wall go-through passages, free base sprints after 20 minutes, faster revives, faster surrended options, weaker jungle camps and faster respawns, jungle fruit, runes) Riot shortened average game length by about 10 minutes, making it even unnecessary to worry about winning or losing a (ranked) game, because you could just play another game and "try harder" next time while repeating the same mistakes all over again.
@vukkicos56883 жыл бұрын
@Super Top Secret Area The Sistematic Rework of Items in this season was the final nail in the coffin. It made sure that champions who have huge 1-item powerspikes become prevelent (aka Assassins and Skrimishers), while simultaneously nerfing champions which most frequently go against them, mostly because of how stats distribution is heavily dependant on the core (highest tier) items. The rework made sure to take away some stats from all of high to low tier items and distribute them to each legendary item aqusition, *according to class that item belongs to*, in desperate hopes of prolonging the game. Instead, it made sure that you are being punished for trying to itemize against your opponent. For example, lets say you were playing any mage against Zed, and because of the pressure he makes, you are obligated to put aside your powerspike item for a while and buy the stacking armor thing (forgot its name lol) that builds into Zhonya's. If you played that game before this season, you would end up almost net neutral for the price you payed for that valuable defense because getting to the first item wasnt as important back then. But if you played that game this season, not only does buying that item for roughly the same price gives you less defense, it also puts you away from your own valuable 1 item powerspike, making it actually punishing to play smartly. And to top it all off, precision and (whatever the red rune page's name is) are basically made off of runes that grant you even bigger advantage for getting kills, which you should be doing either way.

the sad part is that this is 100% a design choice meant to encourage people to play more. Tilted people will play more games to avoid leaving on a loss and more conflippy short games = more overall interaction than longer, more engaging games. Stripping away player agency and not rewarding cold-minded strategic gameplay makes the game operate on a closer level to gambling because the unpredictability is at the core of addictive behavior. And there's also the problem that making the game not a snowbally permafight fiesta for the vast majority of players would make pro play way less proactive and interesting to watch so overall I think it's safe to say league will probably die before Riot does anything to revert the situation. From a corporate profit standpoint this is probably as good as it gets for them (No wonder why the meta has been so stale for years at this point and patches are becoming more and more irrelevant with pointless changes to keep an appearance of constant change)
@devforfun56183 жыл бұрын
@swamp child da boss i think that is a terrible idea, i think heroes of the storm aproach was better, instead of item each character has a set of upgrades that allows them to have multiple viable builds, but they are balanced for the character, so for example two carries with life steal can have two different rates of lifesteal, and you can totally prevent assassins from having lifesteal making the suports actually usefull because the assassins cant self heal or self shield unlesss they were desigend to, the only way to make that in league was with explicity limits like how pyke cant build health and jhin cant build attack speed another interesting think in hots was the two ultimates, usually one is damage and the other is for team work, so you can play suport even with carries

They’ve been around for a while and have been successful, so we don’t plan on making changes to them. But we think we can give you additional ways to get back into a game when the going gets tough... Perhaps I just miss those days because I'm good with planning ahead and not so good a technical outlays (boomer hands). Seems like the game really favors those flashy champions. @eadbert19353 жыл бұрын
on the other hand, if level ups are delayed, whoever is behind will have a harder time coming back again. now if you die/back early and the enemy can freeze the wave upon reaching 6, you'll have an even harder time reaching 6 as well. i admit, they won't snowball to 7-8 as quickly either, but if all you need is level 6 to be reached to become relevant they'll be able to just keep you out of the game longer as nothing else can get you your level 6. which will lead a lot of players to tilt and int. i admit, freezing is already annoying as hell if you're the enemy, but the ability to move around the map, maybe get an assist mid or catching out the enemy jungle because you have more time to place vision NOT getting you level 6 will be even worse.

I think that the root cause of the problems like too short of a game time, too much damage, too much healing etc, is that riot is trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Those being 12 year olds, who want to see action flashy plays and see enemy champs blow up in 0.1s. It has made the game very popular and appealing to the common man but resulted in the degradation of "thougthful" gameplay. It's all about rolling your head over the keyboard to make the enemy champs explode. But riot noticed that so much damage is oppressive so the powercreaped healing, to combat that they introduced healingdebuffs, that lead to champs relying on healing to become too weak so they buffed the amount of healing. Now we have a self perpetuating cycle of powecreap. On top of that riot is so paranoid about tank meta returning that they introduced a record number of tank killing items making tanks feel shit to play (ever wondered why you don't see tank Maokai top anymore). To top it all off they keep releasing overloaded champions that warp the meta around them.

The problem with League is actually the gold system, without gold fights would have the objective of gaining advantedge on objectives, not gaining resources over the opponent. Fighting is fun, but why we fight is the acctual problem. For the Midlane: Exp is the most important thing on the game, but with 600 gold of a double kill on bot lane that's completely denyed. That's why Top lane is a counter pick lane. If you kill the opponent you get so many resources on top of denying farm an exp, but there are ways Riot implemented so it is possyble to circumvent exp gaps. With gold the only way is to kill the opponent... That's a thousand times stronger than you. On Jungle and Bot lane: If you score a kill, there's no reason to worry about farming anymore, cause you're opponent will not be capable of denying you anything. If Riot at least made it so minions/monters gave more gold the farther behind you are, League would be a little bit more skill oriented...

More than half the games I´ve played where not only death matches, but also strategic games where you went full ham onto any objective you could take when drake or herald was on cd, forcing even more fights. Also the snowball potential was way less back in the days and everyone gave their best while also having fun. Now... welp... games are literally over after an invade happens or after the first dude dies. It´s no wonder that players tend to give up that easily after the first death since they may know that they´ll never come back from being behind since you can get way too much gold and objectives while being ahead, especially speaking if you play against most of the newer released champs.

@zaphyrusm89403 жыл бұрын
I think this got really close to the mark, but it missed and it’s made the conclusions off. The problem is not that getting kills is the best way to get gold, the problem is that gold is the only metric of victory. Here I’m gonna note that technically xp is also a currency of power in the game, but because anything that gives gold also gives xp, I’m going to basically ignore it for the rest of this. Because all champions are ideally of equal value across a game (I.e. raw stat value and kit utility balanced across all possible play states) if there is no differentiating metric games would end at champ select depending on counters. Herein gold and objectives create differences where they wouldn’t exist before, allowing for advantages and victory. The issue is that every objective can be converted into a gold value of stats, and when a team correctly plays to forfeit drag and seeks to mitigate the advantage through gaining farm/plates we still have that single axis of advantage. Farm and plates and dragon are all gold, all a single advantage, there isn’t different advantages, but on advantage the magnitude of which changes. Here’s where I point out all of this is kinda a lie, because there is an axis that has nothing to do with gold, and that is vision. Vision is extremely powerful, but not enough to offset the entirety of every other aspect of the game which is wrapped up in gold. Even just the addition of a different currency, say gained from a roving camp that moves through each jungle like scuttle through river and from one special minion per wave. This new currency cannot give any stats to players, because then this currency is just gold with extra steps, but if it gave summoner spell cdr, upgrades to towers, permanent or temporary vision structures, the possibilities are extremely vast. Suddenly you now have an element for which you can’t go five on drag, because you give up an advantage elsewhere that cannot be made up from the gold of dragon (both raw and stats), because there is no way for you to get that time limited currency or the advantages it provides. So now, do I ever anticipate a second currency added to league? No, but completely orthogonal axis of advantage are required to mitigate snowballing and reintroduce real, meaningful macro oriented play. And the best bit is, it doesn’t conflict with having big flashy team fights, it just means that you have to have those, but winning might mean you’re now even with their yet unspecified advantage instead of steamrolling. Imagine a game of league where you get absolutely curbstomped by the 11/2 Jax, but because you were able to sneak their special jungle camp twice earlier in the game, you smile as you purchase the topside vision tower, which makes it so that your files can now splitpush far more effectively with great vision of their topside jungle, now getting more money themselves, pushing back their tower, and opening up an option for a back door later. It’s not a perfect solution, it’s not even a solution at all, but an example of the sort of change that would actually improve league because it focuses on the real problem of a single axis of power. If that can be solved, ff15 would loose it’s attraction, 1v9ing would be less effective, and the fact of a team game with macro and micro nuance will be reinvigorated. Please remember, I know my supposed fix is stupid and won’t work and is literally what I thought up while writing this, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not trying to address the right problem. It was an example to illustrate the manner of a solution, because orthogonality in power is a really weird thing to explain, but is critically necessary in league. Maybe I’m just an idiot who has written this up without enough thought, but I think there’s something to it, and maybe some of you all might as well.
@Shadow109753 жыл бұрын
I feel like the issue is more with interactivity, for example if you're top lane and you die twice to a Camille or an Irelia the game is over and I don't think adding non-gold rewards such as vision would solve this. If you upgrade your tower to a vision tower as you suggested (which would probably use gold) then you're setting yourself further behind and the only benefit is you see your death coming if the jungler/mid comes or you concede gold by backing off. As you rightly said gold is the main issue since that's how you measure power so I think it would be a better idea to add some form of gold denial into the game. One idea could be to double the number of plates on a tower but half the gold it gives when plates are destroyed, then add a mechanic where you can attack your own plates (you do not get gold from destroying your own plates to discourage griefing) similar to denial in DOTA, this increases the macro of the game while actually giving you a decision, do you play the game as normal, do you finish off your own plates to deny the gold despite damaging your tower, do you stay under your tower to try and last hit it so the enemy gets no gold, do you deliberately destroy your own tower and give up map pressure to play safer under a T2 Tower instead. It's a difficult problem to solve since you don't want things to swing too far in the other direction, no one wants to play a game where your team is 20 kills up and deserves the win but you can't close out a game because the enemy is only half an item behind.
@SiMeGamer3 жыл бұрын
@@Shadow10975 these types of ideas are all very interesting. Hopefully Riot does add this macro complexity with immediate choice options. Granted, it should still always be harder for the team to come back and I think extension of game time by mitigating gold acquisition could also help in that regard. Games will be longer and each game state will be longer (early, mid and late). This will make strategy a lot more valuable in the overall game. Simply reducing gold from kills by 50g would change the entire dynamic since now emphasis on farm (less fights and skirmishes) would rise significantly. I really like a lot of the comments a replies under this video. Many interesting ideas and perspectives

This problems of League being very combat oriented nowadays can be searched way back when Riven first came out. In surface level, Riven seems to be simple ad caster with high scaling. After patches and more exploits revealed, everyone realized that Riven's inherent difficulty is not from her kit herself, rather it came from many players were able to find exploits from her mechanics, namely the animation cancels and the b-hopping the walls with third Q. This dynamic shows a similarity between her and a fighting game character where flashy combos and technical mechanics trumps every other aspect of the game, like macromanagement. Rito knows that the FGC is a profitable business and the flashy high on dopamine gameplay is the thing that people were excited these days, so they decided not to fix her exploits and designs newer, more mechanically intense champions using that principle, hence why we got mechanically intense champs like Azir, Yasuo, Aphelios, Samira, and Aschen, where their strong suite is solely on combat and usually lacks anything else. If there is, it's probably not as big deal as they have been.

I think the biggest problem with league is that the ranks are teambased, if you are always way better than your enemies, you always get 90% of the towers solo, solo all objectives, win teamfights alone while your team farms your jgl and in the end the chance that the enemy team still wins because they have easy counterplay (like Leona pressing Q and clicking on you so the other 4 can also click on you or armor which makes the enemies almost unkillable if you play assassins) and even if the enemy team doesnt win and you manage to carry your team in maybe 55% of your games the people that were sleeping in your team most likely get the same if not more lp for far less work. Ofc its a teamgame but that just doesnt work the way it should, way too many people get ranks depening on luck and time rather than on actual skill and teamplay. At least people that went afk for too long dont get lp but i think that good people loosing shouldnt lose that much and bad people winning shouldnt get that much. Maybe just half the lp you win/lose if you are far better than your team. Ofc that could make people playing for kda more and that also wouldnt be good but maybe somehow you can manage to actually get the carries some advantages anstead of sending them to play with preschoolers playing with their toaster for 2k games before being allowed to play with people that didnt just get carried.

Gold 3s nowadays could the best players of LoLs first season. Competition is now sky high and therefore people make WAY less mistakes than they would in lower elos years ago. In Iron 3 you see people buy items and play the game legit, albeit poorly. In s6 I was a bronzie going straight against the turret JUST AFTER MY FIRST PENTAKILL IN ARAM. The fact that people are better with some obvious changes from Riot's part makes the games quicker. Yesterday I was playing with a team, I had a newbie, he was lvl 36 and he asked what was ap right after demolishing a silver 3 player.

I brainstorm, test, and improve my builds for months, only for some dude that just types "ezreal build s11" in google to complain and refuse to play the damn game because I picked an off meta pick, even if it's not fucking ranked and I know how it works and how to play it because I made it myself, I only ever use my off meta builds when I know that they are viable and have been playing them for a long enough time that I'm confident in using them, like vi mid and rumble apc, and I only play ranked like once in like a month anyway, but people refuse to see something change, even things like morgana mid are seen as trolling by some people now.

The complete map state is completely fucked. Drakes have too much value, so bot (mostly support), jgl and maybe mid, decide wether the game is easier or more difficult because of passive stats and the drake soul. Herald is a bit weird, because he is only really usefull, when you have some winning lane, where you can destroy the t1 turret early or push an inhib a bit later, which makes it a waste of time most of a time doing it. Normally toplane would be an island, but because jgl is so strong rn early ganking toplane doesn't make you fall behind and barely cost you any ressources, that you can completely fuck over one opponent if you gank him 2 or 3 times in the early minutes and also take the enemy camps on this side. After dying 2 times on lane on top he shouldn't be able to recover until you let him, because he is half to one level behind.

I played my share of DotA 2 back in the day. I fondly remember splitpushing as Nature's Prophet or Tinker. In particular, I remember playing out an 80 minute game on a team full of hypercarries; despite losing literally all of our buildings except the Ancient (Nexus) and being stormed constantly by mega creeps, we eventually triumphed as we turtled and held the line, then periodically pushed mid when the rare opportunity presented itself. I think DotA's fallen into a similar trap to League of Legends, though, they really seem to have amped up the combat focus of the game. Even more than DotA though, I absolutely loved the focus that Heroes of the Storm placed on macro play. You could lose literally every fight and still eventually win through splitpushing in some cases. But, like DotA, they started pushing for more combat, and I don't think it feels quite the same.

You mentioned the fact that Riot releases champs that give you more comeback potential, e.g. Gwen with the invulnerability. However, one must not forget that, sure, a Gwen on the weaker team still has some carry potential, a Gwen on the enemy team who is hard carrying on the stronger team is the most unfun thing to face DUE TO exactly the mechanics you mentioned. A huge problem for League is how the humans simply work, if the game weren't too combat-oriented and the losing team in term of combat stats is given a lot of out-of-combat ways to come back into a game, the players on the stronger team grow frustrated because they believe that their effort has not mattered at all. In their heads it'll be like: "What the fuck, everyone on my team won lane and we still lost. This is such a shitty-ass game from Riot". The importance people place on winning lane or winning teamfights will not go away even if Riot implements a system so that the losing team can comeback without having to win fights directly, and I doubt that some will ever get used to it. The matter of the fact is that the players, as human beings, do not like losing, yet that will always happen in video games, toxicity exists in every franchise simply because you cannot win every game. Jeez this is a long text, also just my opinion, I could be wrong about everything here.

Suggestions: Use Skarner's Crystal mechanics on a map-wide scale: 1) Place 1 (Crystal) in every quadrant (essentially near the Buffs), and if your team controls that, your minions spawn faster OR their minions spawn slower. Control Top, Top gets the benefit, control Bot, Bot gets the Benefit, control both AND one of the other teams, Mid gets the Benefit, control all 4 and you get some other buff. -get AF'ed as a JG and decide not to dodge? Now you can help Top and Bot (and maybe more) by controlling these Crystals and helping both lanes. -JG not starting on your side or doesn't need a Leash? You can still do something in the first minute or two to help the team. 2) Top and Bot Enclaves have a (Crystal) which allows teleportation from one to the other. If your team controls 1, you get (Shield). If your team controls both (Shield+Bonus). Or no bonuses at all, you just get to go from one side to the other. Others: 1) Creation of permanent (but destroyable) Terrain - eg: Tailyah's Ult creates a "permanent" wall that everyone has to go around, so if used in a Lane it could entirely block Minions (until they destroyed it). 2) Allow for the Disabling of Turrets/Inhibitors rather than just their Destruction -eg: Turrets only attack Visible Targets or Targets engaged in Combat, so if you are Twitch, go Invisible, then go to Tower, you won't get attacked if you don't attack anything. Then you disable the Turret. -If you're able to disable the Nexus, you win. 3) Allowing the control of Minions to direct the Minions. -Kind of like Yone's E, except you direct Minions instead of attack in a spirit form. -if you combined this with the Teleportation Crystal suggestion from above, you could teleport a bunch of Minions from one side of the map to another. 4) The ability to control Jungle Spawns in some way - speed them up for yourself, slow them down for the enemy, disable them entirely, immediate spawn, etc.

It used to be, way back in the early days that if you invested ults and won a fight, you would be without those ults for the next fight (if the enemy pressured for one soon enough). Now by the time you've finish your power play on the enemy's death timers+backed, cashed in your gold, and got back out onto the map, your ult is up again.

Say what you will about it, I've never reached the levels of frustration playing dota 2 that I do in league. Despite the fact I don't play ranked in either, despite the fact that all of my friends play league so I pretty much play dota solo, and despite the fact that, for that reason, I've played league way more than Dota, league has a stressing aura that sometimes makes me wanna tear my hear out that I just don't feel in dota.
@Rageniry3 жыл бұрын
You put your finger on the absolute worst aspect of league of today. The early game is extremely volatile, one early river skirmish can be enough to set a team ahead to an insurmountable level. This can happen as early as the first scuttle spawn. At that point the rest of the game is basically just playing extremely passively and hope that the enemy throws. The team that gets ahead early gets such immensive map control and pressure that it's hard to set up traps and get picks.

I think you can look at dota as a game that has so many ways to farm and comeback. Having no jg means everyone gets jg farm and can just leave lane if their opponent is too strong. And smokes let you get picks on people who are way ahead.
@dmitriykoptik72083 жыл бұрын
The only really good things in DoTA in terms of ideas to make game interesting and enjoyable are smokes, dusts, stacks and gold comeback mechanic. DoTA is inverted LoL in terms of game time feeling - while LoL feels super fast, DoTA is long and boring. If you think that play Top is "counterpick 2 win" lane, than you never played DoTA. League match can be decided by first kills, but DoTA match can be decided by drafts and laning a losing match in DoTA feels like you are being poisoned and dying slowly. Biggest contributors to this feel are deny system, which makes you not only lose farm, but, what is more important, XP as well, and complete retardness of 80% of characters, who have point&click super strong abilities, who don't need to think about "how to use them", but just "when to use them" and your only way to counter them ingame is to buy items, again its just desicion, not some play. Also DoTA not only don't have junglers, but also is very oppressive towards early roaming. It was popular in some patches, but now its seems to be irrelavant again, which makes laning even more boring. Tower Dives seems risky in League, but in reality they are so much more dangerous in DoTA since you can have 4 TPs on ur sorry ass and get murdered. Objective (Roshan) is useless in Late Game, thus its not really common 4 DoTA to have 1.5 hours game, I had like 20+ of them through my experience with one being almost 3 hours. And while defending was somewhat enjoyable, being winning up to 40 min, get megas, lose one important fight, getting outscaled by enemy team, and then sit through 1:30 hours of pointless attempts to end to be killed, and dumbest shit there is that enemy can't end as well because of megas. Then you will be remembering Elder like a Holy Grail, like a saving grace against these monstrocities. I quitted dota for several months almost all the times after such games, they just make you die inside. Yes, LoL is too overly forgiving to proactive side of a PVP, and it can borrow some nice ideas from DoTA, however it needs to be mentioned that DoTA is basically another side of a problem by being too overly forgiving to reactive side, getting all the risks to those, who try to act in game. Thats the reason DoTA overall is so much worse as a game to enjoy by ordinary consumer and has lower playerbase than League
@amos98043 жыл бұрын
@@dmitriykoptik7208 Dota isn't just worse and therefore has much lower player base. Like League it has its ups and downs, but the reasons it's less popular is that it has a higher skill floor, tutorial is ass (or was, not sure how it is now after it's been updated), less enjoyable on the casual level (small scale combat isn't as sharp and hectic as League), more demanding to run, and is never advertised by Valve. But I think it has an undeniably better and more satisfying competitive experience, and has way more exciting high tier gameplay. It has nearly the same pro viewership as League despite only having a fraction of the population, and the pro games actually resemble pubs and with a lot of action.
@dmitriykoptik72083 жыл бұрын
@Amos Samosir Well, my point was that DotA is worse experience to ordinary consumer. DotA's cons are not some kind of a "payoff" for its enjoyable competitive scene. Only reason why DotA has a decent one and league isn't lies in lack of comeback mechanics in LoL and they're good realization in DotA. Games can be highly competitive, has a room of betterment and be enjoyable even for casuals. Good examples of that might be CSGO and Tekken. Both have good amount of both proactive and reactive mechanics to balance out gaming experience for both casuals and high-tier players. And that further elaborates my point - both DotA and LoL suffers the same problem, but they get to it from different sides. And for me as a normal person, who just wants to play with friends and have fun, LoL is much more comfortable place as a game. DotA is not so much and I wanted to clarify it since many people didn't play it and might feel it is some kind of "better league".

Something that left me confused reading at first but now makes a lot more sense after watching this video is the objective Bounties that Riot has mentioned in their preseason 2022 post. Basically they plan to add additional bounties for the losing team onto objective(probably tower and drakes i presume.) To give them more comeback chances outside of champion shutdown, which needs you to fight them. Do you think this has actually potential to help this problem and make the game better? Or are we perhaps looking at something like towerplatings again which were meant to combat(or rather give a chance to counter) early snowballing through roaming but actually made snowballing even worse in most cases. (though i have seen it working as intended as well)

There's kinda a point to this though. Macro focused gameplay feels unfair: why should our team win a teamfight because of our flashy outplay but lose because of a backdoor? (literally happened to me today) Chess stops being fun when you have random teammates who decide to trade our queen for a bishop. Macro is still plays a pretty heavy role in games, but because it is heavily dependent on teammates each tier of play has the same level of macro across nearly all players. Because of this, macro strategies work but don't do anything because everybody does these macro strategies. Also speaking of chess, it is as snowballey if not more than League. Losing a pawn may lead to a slight disadvantage in the midgame, preventing a comeback, and then would punish you harshly in the endgame with 2 pawns to 1. I have to say, as snowballey as League is it still feels fair. Yes, it is the random kind of fair heavily dependent on teammates, but still fair nevertheless.

I'm curious about learning about Dota 2 since you mentioned in passing that Dota 2 is relatively more macro-oriented than League is, but has its own problems. What makes it more macro-oriented, and what are its problems? Would any Dota players be able to shed some light?
@leipein3 жыл бұрын
So what makes Dota more macro-oriented than league? Here are few of the answers: 1. Creep(Minion) blocking - you can block your minions every time they spawn so you can pull the minion wave closer to your turrets. 2. Denying - you can kill your own minion at a certain health percentage so your enemy can't have the gold and exp (also you can deny turrets) 3. Creep Pulling - you can make your minions fight the neutral creeps to pull the minion wave back to your turrets also to kill some of it giving the enemy team less minions resulting to less gold and exp. 4. Stacking - You can stack neutral creeps multiple times so you can give your carries more gold when they farm the jungle. 5. Day and Night Cycle - it affects your vision also some abilities (That's why ganking usually starts during the night) 6. Turrets have abilities - you can fortify all your turrets for a few seconds making them immune to damage while also powering their attack (you can also heal turrets using living armor) and many more... The major problem I have with Dota is a good handful of player is toxic. --- if you're going to try and learn how to play DOTA, don't play support heroes 'til you have a good grasp on the game basics. It's better to play as a main carry (position 1). Supports in Dota are mostly responsible on this macro-oriented mechanics - they need to be active from start 'til the end of the game.
@paradoxicaldragon3 жыл бұрын
@@leipein your comment about playing support is pretty eye-opening! Thanks for the reply. I would've assumed a newbie would be safer to put on support because of this mental image I have of it being more forgiving due to being relatively low impact (assuming damage contribution is the priority).

I assume you've seen Dunkey's "I'm Done with League of Legends" video. League today has basically tried to address every complaint Dunkey had -- adding hyper carries so "Good players can be good and carry the game themselves" and adding elder and baron changes so that matches are over faster, because Dunkey complained about being stuck in games for 50+ minutes. They added turret plating so "pushing stupid towers" was more rewarding. They turned off all chat. I don't know if this video will touch on it, but for me, it's the poor investment feedback. The amount you can invest in this game, only to receive minimal returns, is quite frankly frustrating and off-putting. And it's in every aspect of the game. Your years-long investment to the game might only see you rise a tier or two in ranked for your personal plateau. And, on a smaller scale, each game itself is a huge investment which might end in little to no returns, or even negative returns in the case of a ranked loss. In other games you can play a 5 or 10 minute match, lose, and jump right back into another one to redeem it, with your personal agency being a huge factor. In this game you could play for 45 minutes, lose by a simple micro misplay in a really tight game, and lose just as much for that investment as if you had lost all your towers and nexus in a 10 minutes in a landslide. And your personal agency might not even factor into it. And the amount of anxiety created by that poor investment feedback makes both losing and winning feel exhausting. In victory, you're not happy you won, you're relieved you didn't lose. You don't play this game to win it, you play to not lose it.

This is less a problem with League not being fun in general and more just a problem with playing the game for a long time. The more League games someone wins, the less enjoyment they get from those wins. The only way I’ve found to counteract this decay is to change how I play the game. I play off meta builds to do this, but playing different champs, gamemodes, or playing with/without premades is a way to mix things up.

Sounds more like a problem with your attitude towards the game, and playing it for the sole purpose of getting wins. Win = Fun? Lose = No-no Personally I love playing League, almost every game of League that I play, I play because it's fun. Winning is slightly less fun, as it puts me back in queue waiting to play again, but in some cases a clutch victory makes it fun, or the need for a break after a 50 minute game makes being in queue acceptable. I play League because I want to, you should try it.

I can't even follow a team fight. Doesn't matter if I'm watching a player on youtube or if I'm the one doing the fighting. Suddenly, people die, and I have no idea what hit them. The game play is just too fast. It doesn't matter if I can outsmart my opponent if I can't react fast enough. Conversely, I don't have the same problem playing Smash Bros. I can't play at a competitive level, because I'm just not that fast, but against most of my friends, I can follow the fights easily and can usually win. For some reason, in League, you put three or four champions in a fight, and suddenly I don't even know where I am anymore, and I'm dead before I know I've been attacked.

I think the game's biggest problem is that Riot doesn't listen to the players. They don't understand that the players aren't the masters and challangers or pro players, but the people that actually play the game the most, meaning people like you and me. Now of course i don't think they should listen to every iron 4, 0 lp out there but the fact that they dont listen gives the impresion that they simply dont give a shit. There are champions that have been dominating the game for months, so we nerf Asol. The curent meta basically forces you to build tanky if you are not an adc, so how about another lux skin. Also, the way you gain and lose lp is totally random and very annoying. I had games where i went like 1/12 and won 18 lp and others in which i went 20/5 and won 15. Or when i am the only one with a positive kd in my team and the only one actively triyng to win the game so i still lose 16 lp cause i guess i just fucking suck. I think its totally unfair that you only lose 5 lp less if you have an afk. Playing 4v5 puts you in a constant disadvantage. You have a high chance to lose every teamfight. You cant backdoor or splitpush cause that will leave your team in a 3v5 which is almost alaways a loss. Its a MASSIVE disadvantage and riots answer to it is: haha you only lose 11lp instead of 16 be happy or get chat restricted for 3 days. Its not even like you gain more lp if you win 4v5. And thats not even talking about the comunity which is absolute garbage. I have seen people tell me to get cancer or that i should see my mother die and stuff like that and they never got banned for it. I literally had a bot account in my ranked game that had even the match history bugged and that account was never banned. Conclusion: Riot is wild
