@@ezechielroy859 Meh.,. he's learning... But he thinks this banshee engine is an upgrade--- but it's absolutely not. That triple is a monster, and would be way faster than a stock bore banshee engine- he just didnt' have it geared right.. I'm sure this thing will be plenty fast enough too-- being that he IS on a lawn mower after all. lol... But he gave up on the triple before he really had it working right. Because it would be SCARY fast if he had geared it right; Much faster than he had it set up.. If you go watch "Rather B Welding" --- he recently (finally) got his little triple go kart running fairly well, with a decent gear ratio and it's nasty.. popping wheelies; and even it can still be refined and go a lot faster. One problem I foresee coming out of this is the small sprockets to chain length ratio. I know from experience with doing something very similar that the small sprocket to small sprocket size means that they will be spinning pretty damn fast. The other is the use of a short chain length. As RPM's increase to the sprockets the chain of course is also moving this much faster right. What happens is over any length of time, speed and load is going to cause your chain to become smoking hot, literally! Burning off the factory grease inside the rollers and very quickly leading to chain seizures on tighter riveted roller links first. You can spray the thing with cans of chain lube, but it's going to be a fruitless endeavor as its primarily made to lube the outer surface of the chain to sprocket contact points. That being said the rest gets flung off from the RPM's of the chain and burn the rest of the lube off the chain links leading to chain failures. Hence why they use chains only inside cases that give them a chance to cool off and be bathed in oil before going around again. Even applies true for a chainsaw, without a working oil pump constantly lubing the bar track and chain links it leads to utter rivet/roller/link failures of the chains. IDK? This is just some words from the wise, been there before and got the Award's. Hope you have better luck with yours.
@VasilyBuilds3 жыл бұрын
O ring chains solve that problem
@jimciancio90053 жыл бұрын
@@VasilyBuilds I was going to mention that, but the O-rings melted and only extended the life of the chain for a few minutes longer. It has to all do with the amount of friction being applied to the speed of it turning. I came to realize my mistake after realizing that because this phenomenon does not occur on a daily street bike or ATV for this matter, it's all due to the sprocket to sprocket size ratio being everything usually has a rear sprocket 3-4-5+ times larger than the front and you are adding in the length of the swing arm thus the chain is traveling straight in free air space to act like a cooling area on the top and bottom of the length of chain. When you put sprockets that close together you now have absolutely zero air gap in length to allow the links to cool down enough before the next wrap around a sprocket. Then you add into the account, the sprockets diameters, a small sprocket like a pulley or wheel is going to rocket the speed of the chain and not having any long stretches of straight or relaxed link's it will continue to accumulate heat until it vaporizes everything on them. Believe me they will probably glow red if they didn't seize up and snap long before that happens. You have the same exact scenario I faced and went through, too little chain length, too small of sprocket diameter and not enough cooling time inbetween the links before its wrapping around the next bend of the sprocket. For short quick bursts, like an engine without a cooling system, yeah you'll be fine. Once you cross the threshold though of temp and the grease and orings vaporize it's all over in a matter of minutes. Just trying to give you a little heads up, I've never put a chain through a clutch case on any bike before even racing, but I've come across plenty who have. A banshee engine isn't by any means cheap to replace when you stuff it with a chain, that's why I'm trying to save you some pain in the future. If you've ever seen friction welding done before??? You'll have a better understanding of what it takes to fuse steel to steel and it only takes one link out of a dozen to fuse, then you get a tidal wave of chain balling up against the aluminum case, steel VS's aluminum we know the outcome not even the most expensive case saver in the world is going to prevent happening. Just sayin bro, I've been there exactly where your going and it doesn't end well. We live and learn I guess?

Oh no.. lol.. Bro. Those pipes are specifically tuned to make the engine run a certain way. It's not like a 4 stroke. A 2 strokes pipe/ especially the expansion chamber is what sets where your powerband will be (it's RPM range) -- and it functions like a turbo charger.. A larger pipe will give you more low end torque-- where as you'll see "racing" pipes will be smaller, and that's because it sets the powerband at a much higher RPM's. The distance from the exhaust port back to the end of the expansion chamber is a precise measurement and it sets the timing (in RPM's) that an exhaust pulse will resonate and bounce back to the chamber -- forcing extra pressure to be pushed back into the cylinder- through the exhaust port and that's what creates the EXTRA power at a give power band.. and that's why you can change your pipes and change your engine entirely.. and go from a skinny, high rpm race pipe, to a FAT low RPM trail riding pipe- which will give you more low end torque.............. So What I'm trying to say is-- at the VERY least , your pipes have to match or it's going to run terrible and have no power. It's eaiser for a DIY to get around this by Y-ing them into a single pipe, so that you only have to build one expansion chamber. But I'm telling you, if it runs like crap-- it's because you have to do better with those pipes man. There's a whole science to 2 stroke expansion chambers and exhaust timing and resonance, ect.
@tke7mu0u3 жыл бұрын
2 stroke pipes are not as critical as people make them out to be. Your theory is correct but the changes need to be much worse than what he has done here to make the motor run poorly.
@calholli3 жыл бұрын
@@tke7mu0u It might work fine... I'm just saying "IF" -- if it doesn't run right--- that has to be addressed. I have a 500cc Rotax (snowmobile) engine that I put onto a 2 seater buggy and I had to cut off 2-to 3" of the pipe right at the ports, to make the pipe fit--- and now it runs like crap.. and I wish I wouldn't have done it. It still works-- and still has some power-- but it just moved the powerband much higher into the RPM range and now doesn't have any low end torque, which sucks-- and makes it not as fun to drive -- becaue its either full throttle or no throttle everywhere. But anyway, since then, I've fixed it, after learning more about the expansion chambers and how they work....... Also, I've had several banshee's and still own one now--- and they are completely gutless without that power band kicking in.. So you can go cutting on the pipes all you want, but without them being tuned well (especially on a banshee)--- it's not going to be fun.
@tke7mu0u3 жыл бұрын
@@calholli yes i fully agree. I just meant that a lot of people with out practical experience believe a 2 stroke pipe needs to absolutely perfect to run properly when in reality its not the case. From what i can tell he didnt really shorten the pipes though. For every 2 inches shortened it moves the power up roughly 700rpm. But properly tuned pipes on any 2 stroke can make a big difference. In the case of your snowmobile which runs a cvt they will have a narrow powerband already so by shortening the pipe it will dramatically affect the feel. Where pipes designed for a gearbox generally have a larger spread of power to make the power usable so shortening it an inch will only move the power slightly higher up the rev range. For this application he may be better off lengthening the pipes
