When it's lean like that-- it might have a vacuum leak. A good test: While it's idling, take some starter fluid and Lightly squirt a little around your leak prone areas: near the crank seals, near the bottom of the jug, near the intake gasket and front of the carb. ect.. If there's a leak, it will suck in the starter fluid and rev the engine. Don't go crazy and drown your bike in fluid, with it being a fire hazard... but if it's leaking, it will only take a little spray and that will rev the engine quite a bit... It's repeatable too and you can show it on camera--- and that will let you know if there's a leak somewhere. If you spray it everywhere with a good starter fluid (while idling) and it never revs at all -- then you KNOW you don't have any leaks.

So if you spray it 'everywhere', how do you apply to the primary gear key way?? Isn't that covered by the clutch cover? I've seen where builders make sure to douse that Achilles heel w/ silicon, during assembly.
@calholli
@calholli 2 жыл бұрын
@@cheerdiver If that side leaks, it will usually burn a lot of oil and be obvious in the smoky exhaust. That side usually doesn't leak, since the seal is getting coated with oil on both sides at all times.. The three main leaks are around the intake, around the bottom of the jug and the left side seal-- behind the stator.
@brandon2076
@brandon2076 2 жыл бұрын
That's a quick and dirty way to check for large and/or obvious leaks, but in no way does it prove that your engine is airtight. You need to perform a leakdown/pressure test to know for sure.

Quads make for some crazy great projects. If you mover the engine to the front or ack you make tons of room to lower the driver so it is more like a go cart. This is great for mowers, Power Wheel builds, and other crazy builds.

Best advice I've ever got was from Evel Knievel. When things go wrong on a machine and you know your going to crash, Go limp. I remembered that as I flew thru to air. It saved my life. That's a impressive build but scary. The moment you don't respect it's power it will bite you. I've lost friends going a lot slower on more stable machines. I'm not trying to discourage you I'm just saying take way more precautions than you think you need. Stack the odds in your favor. Your life is worth the effort. Good luck 👍

@@ttv8ra23 this is the rd 350 engine ,it came with twin exhausts because the crank rotation is 180 degrees ,they wern't expansion chambers ,the pulse from each cylinder will work against each other in a single exhaust causing less power . you can get a gain of 20 hp with larger carbs and twin expansion pipes,this is the set up he should be using, kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2G7hWadrbiZeJo

Ohhhhh....binge watched the whole build ....I was extremely sad to see the triple get taken out but, if you had of gotten a snowmobile chain case and used a rear axle like you have it would have work ... Google it out I did and everyone put the motor the same way as on a sled just moved the chain case and modified the first drive... but what an adventure this was and it truly took alot out of you. From start to finish you, just looked tired and done. But hey it turned out amazing man. To be honest this series taught me alot and made my change my mind on my build, alot lol. Helped me so much. And taught me the first thing I need is a welder lol. I got diagnosed with progressive M.S and I had to quit working at the moment so to keep my self busy I'm doing a build and this helped alot. With the huge scrub radius of those front hubs you could go down to 1 ie 2 degrees of castor. It would make steering easier and stop lifting the front end when you turn. High scrub radius increases return to centre so you don't need to use as much castor for stability.

You really need a bit more airflow for the cooling fins to dissipate the heat properly. Having more air passing over one part of the engine than others will create hot spots and will actually distort the cylinder bores slightly as different temperatures causes different expansion rates throughout the engine. Just something to take note of. I've rebuilt air-cooled engines in the past where parts of the fins were blocked by debris which distorted the cylinder bore and ovaled the piston and cylinder bore extensively. Keep up the awesome work we all enjoy the videos you bring us. 👍 Thanks.

The 4 link they use in the RZR's make for a really comfy ride and also give a ton of travel. For reference, you can check some of the Jeep XJ video's on how to do 4 link. Big tire garage, Bleepin Jeep and many others have have some very helpful. Just a matter of scaling down for you type builds. I plan to do a DYI 4 link on the front of my Bumble Jeep at some point. Hope this helps. God bless and stay well.

This is so cool; what we all desired when mowing the lawn as children.😂 Dad had a gray Craftsman in the 80s and a green Murray in the 90s until the early 2000s. I loved the experience...until I got stuck in the mud. Those stock tires sucked so bad. Any bit of moisture on the soil and bye-bye to mowing joy.

That garden tractor has had several transformations so far. you are correct about not having to make your suspension and steering geometry absolutely perfect. if your going be riding it on the dirt. something that I noticed is the length of the chains is quite long especially for not having any guides. but if the chain tension is correct probably the worst thing you experience is some increase in side wear on the sprockets. and depending on how often you ride it that will probably not be an issue. and something else that a person might be concerned about. is not having that ignition mag area covered. especially in wet and or muddy conditions but that should be a simple fix. from what I could tell when you were holding the spark plug. the carb tuning issue must slight. because the plug looked a chocolate brown color. which is what they should be if it's running correctly. but otherwise a pretty good video over all can't wait to see it on off road terrain.

Your skills have come a very long way and it shows. If you plan on wringing it out to 100 please put some speed rated tires on . Try preloading the hell out of the suspension, and tie it down with some short limit straps to lower the cg and provide a little bit of sway control if it gets sketchy. Thank you for another great video.

Ya may want to open up the front grill broski and get some more air to those cooling fins man! These RDs need as much air flow as humanly possible. I know it sucks to have to do but it is air cooled bro, otherwise we know the outcome of not doing this is meltdown. Otherwise man, she sounds like a Banshee for a old air cooled RD-350. The points upgrade is awesome and helps these rev so much further than points could dream of taking them! And that expansion pipe seems perfectly matched with this engine being off another modern 350. Awesome stuff man and keep em coming.
@somethingelse2740
@somethingelse2740 2 жыл бұрын
if you were driving with no air filters, you were getting maximum air, causing lean conditions, add air filters. Barbie camper project at Grind Hard Plumbing is a good example. They even had to tape part of their air cleaner to restrict air flow for their fuel injected engine to be able to cope.

put some slick tyres on it and take it down the drag strip for the day, with a few jets, that way you can jet it and tune it on the strip, more safer than ripping it up and down the street possibly annoying a few neighbours and having the cops come along . its mid range stuttering so i would say adjust that fuel needle on the carb and raise the slide needle up one notch. also make sure your giving it a healthy does fuel and oil mix , 30-1 is ideal , 25-1 if you wanna go a little risky. pilot jet is for low end fuel needle on carb is for mid range carb slide needle is for top end

Man I wish someone would have told me that "rear spool" was only good up to about 70 HP before I used almost the exact same setup (just different hubs on the ends) on my buggy engine swap. Not only did I feed it with 108 HP Kawasaki ZX-750R power plant, I reduced the gearing almost in half through a jackshaft...yea, I sheared the key stock in the downstream axle in half...long ways (it's now 1/4" x 1/8"). It lasted a while though and I DID dump the clutch when I sheared it. Too much to re-engineer and no room, so I threw in a new key, drilled a hole through the sprocket hub and axle shaft and threw a grade 8 bolt through it with a nylock nut. Should have know when I had to double-sprocket it because it was bending sprocket teeth backwards that the key might not hold up. Seems to hold up now though...in case you run into that issue. Now we just need the pillow blocks and CV axles hold up. Anyway, good stuff brother! Love it. Btw, I too started with motorized bicycles. And no, I wouldn't quest for 100 MPH. CG looks to be high and you're pretty exposed.
