For deer: two lightweight food storage bags and twist ties. One for heart, the other liver. Can easily be folded and kept with your license. Matches. And, a'corse, a pasty or two!

compass & DEET for sure … I also take fluorescent orange ribbon tape that other hunters will see and not invade your space when tied to trees or bushes at your stand … they generally can’t see you in camo but will see the fluorescent ribbon tape !!!

I suggest a radio such as FRS/GMRS, CB and a ham radio. Despite ham radio requiring a license, non-license users can transmit in emergency situations. Plenty of hams who are listening on local 2m repeaters. ☺️

I carry all of that and I also have the clip on reflective trail markers, thermacell with refills, whistle in case I get hurt and can’t call out, fire starter, compass, hot hands, phone solar charger, small knife sharpener and small tree hooks for hanging the backpack. I’d rather carry things that I don’t need but have then to need it and not have it. Great video!

How much does your pack weigh fully stocked ? I carry most of that , adding a sawyer extractor , a compass and plenty of DEET .Thank you.

Oh, and Bow and release. DON'T FORGET YOUR RELEASE! MOST IMPORTANTLY BRING A GOOD ATTITUDE AND HAVE FUN!

On your last note about blaze orange, I have a real problem with that. All that blaze orange law does, is tell hunters if you don’t see blaze orange then it’s OK to shoot. I have heard plenty of hunters tell of shooting at noise. And what about people who are just walking through the woods to enjoy nature. It’s a really bad law.

I almost got shot in 2008 at the Powhatan WMA while I was in camo , since then I ALWAYS take fluorescent orange ribbon tape and tie it to the tree or bush at my stand to prevent getting shot !!! … blaze orange is NOT a bad law as some say !!!
