To see subtitles in other languages: Click on the gear symbol under the video, then click on "subtitles." Then select the language (You may need to scroll up and down to see all the languages available). --To change subtitle appearance: Scroll to the top of the language selection window and click "options." In the options window you can, for example, choose a different font color and background color, and set the "background opacity" to 100% to help make the subtitles more readable. --To turn the subtitles "on" or "off" altogether: Click the "CC" button under the video. --If you believe that the translation in the subtitles can be improved, please send me an email.

Awesome video! It doesn't matter but typo at 6:36 "ball's" should be "balls." Really liked the part liked the part where you broke down the dimensions, although mentioning that they are commonly referred to as the î j and k dimensions might make it more familiar to some, especially students. Thanks for being expertly educational again!

Is it not 2d if we "step down" from 3d? Re. the bouncing ball in a two-dimensional plane. Perhaps I'm "semantically" confused?
@EugeneKhutoryansky
@EugeneKhutoryansky 9 жыл бұрын
Maxander2001, I am referring to the fact that each of the three colored balls is bouncing around in just one dimension. For each of the colored balls, the plane shown is the plane that this dimension is perpendicular to.

Wonderful animation and worthy explanation. Thank you. The statement that "if an object is influenced by several forces at a time, then the result is the same as if the object is influenced by a single net force" is true only for point masses. For a rigid body of a finite size, a pair of forces serves as an example when the net force is zero, but the motion of the body cannot be described with help of the net force. Why not say it in the video?

If gravity pulls towards the center of mass and centrifugal force is exerted outward at a 90 degree angle relative to the line of axis of a rotating body then my question is what is the force direction vector of an object sitting 1 degree off of axis at the North pole. Gravity pulls down towards center at all points on Earth. Centrifugal force, produced from rotational velocity, exerts itself at a right angle relative to gravity unopposed at the poles and changes incrementally till the equator where both are directly opposed. Also centrifugal force increases with radius. Moving over the surface of a sphere radius increases continually till the equator. So again my question is what is the force direction predicted by the vectors of centrifugal force crossed by gravity on an object 1 degree off axis at the pole?
@EugeneKhutoryansky
@EugeneKhutoryansky Жыл бұрын
Centrifugal forces do not actually exist. I cover this in my video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppzbh6KPrpWCpJI

This is an excellent video - my only 'criticism' would be: "Why even mention 'curvature of spacetime' in this video?" It seems 'out of place' (added as an 'oh by the way') and does exactly what most curricula do: "I tell you it's X (but in reality it's not X)" - so what's a kid to think? "Don't believe everything I'm going to tell you because in reality it's not like that". I had that in chemistry, year after year they'd say "everything you've learned until now is wrong" and proceed to 'overwrite' what I thought I knew. So it causes confusion and takes the attention away from the topic at hand: Vectors used as a tool to represent/describe Force (so you leave 'open' the question of the nature of what a force is - curvature of spacetime for example - for another video). But that's just my opinion... Thanks again for these and keep them coming! They're priceless!
@EugeneKhutoryansky
@EugeneKhutoryansky 9 жыл бұрын
Thomas White Thanks for the compliment about the video. I had to mention the curvature of space-time because otherwise, if I just said that gravity is a force, then I would be giving incorrect information.
