I love that he talks about the Buddhadhamma. Sometimes the vedantists have a better context for the Buddha’s teachings than we get in Buddhist traditions because the Buddha used the language of those traditions that existed prior to and during his own life.

I have also completed three 10 day courses of Vipassana as well as one Satipatthana as taught by S. N. Goenka BUT Advaita Vedanta or Nagarjuna Emptiness or Nondualism is ULTIMATE. Without realising Emptiness or Fullness (Poonam or Brahman) OR Nonduality, Vipassana too becomes mechanical or I say that Vipassana meditators are also Workoholics (like Raja Yogi in Hinduism) and they are not effortless type and hence they are also far from the satisfaction in Life. Goenka was not able to dictate effortless meditation on Nonduality AFTER Vipassana although he taught Compassion (in place of Apathy) which is not ultimate. Goenka was unique and supreme in my view, of course, in the field of Meditation indeed BUT after sometime effortless in Life is supreme in my view.

🙏🙏🙏 This is a wonderful talk on Buddhas central Teachings. @28:00 the "8 types of sufferings" mentioned here is how The Buddha first described the Noble Truth of Suffering in His first discourse " Dhamma chakka pavattana sutta" . There He said, " jatipi dukkha ( birth is suffering), jarapi dukkha ( old age us suffering), vyadipi dukkha ( sickness is suffering) maranampi dukkham( death is suffering), appiyehi sampayogo dukkho ( being with the unpleasant is suffering), piyehi vippayogo dukkho( separation from what's pleasant is dukkha), yam pichcham na labhati thampi dukkham ( not getting wishes fulfilled is suffering) and sankhittena panchupadanakhanda dukkha ( in short, the 5 aggregates are suffering) In another sutta ( Sacca Vibhanga sutta) these terms are further described . for instance, what's birth, what's death etc, all at the empirical level.

Thank you Swami Sarvapriyananda for helping others to become more calm and peaceful in a chaotic world. Suffering exists only when we believe it is suffering and allow adversities press our buttons. Take for example, do you get angry and frustrated when things don't go your way, and challenging situations cause you to dwell in an endless spiral of hatred asking why this is happening to you? Or, do you take the harsh bumps on the road of life as welcome and grateful lessons for you to gain greater wisdom and maturity? We are the aware coming here willingly into this area of low consciousness to be in human form and being temporary unaware, with the purpose of participating in an ongoing test of equally powerful and equally accessible opposing energies of light and dark. Then through many lifetimes of free will exploration and maturation, we will gain enough wisdom to uncover, realize, and become who we truly are, which is unconditional love, compassion, and joy. A circular path of the aware being unaware, then becoming aware again. Relax and enjoy the adventure we all passionately signed up for. And desire is not a bad thing when it is from good intention. What is so wrong with having a desire to help others out of their spirals of anger and frustration. What is so wrong with having a desire to buy a nice camera to capture the exquisite beauty of a glorious sunset. What is so wrong with having a desire for a car so children don't have to walk 10 miles to and from school everyday? What is so wrong with having a desire to make more money if it is made with fairness, honesty, and integrity? We live in only a small fraction of the vast grand reality. Is it possible to be enlightened in this state of low consciousness and know all when we haven't even experience the rest of the whole reality? Perhaps we should replace the word "enlightened" with "greater wisdom and maturity" to properly imply there is still more wisdom and maturity to be had outside of this small part of reality. With greater wisdom and maturity comes higher compassion to help others less aware. It is our duty to expand our knowledge, and to use that knowledge for the benefit of others. This is only one of the many divine mentoring system in place to help humanity evolve. Another one is karma, which is a divine guidance system to nudge us back onto the good path when we veered off the path through free will exploration from poor choices. We should be grateful to karma for balancing us and not think of it as a form of punishment. God/Higher Self/Creative Source/Prime Creator is a benevolent confluence of multi-dimensional energy of unconditional love, compassion, and joy. At our core is unconditional love, compassion, and joy because we are made in God's image with the temple of God within. Everything in this part of reality is created for the comfort of humans while participating in the test. To say we are born here to suffer from birth to death is a great disservice to the unconditional love of God. We could live a wonderful life of calm, peace, and gratitude by making daily choices that align with unconditional love. There is no need to incessantly seek awakening or "enlightenment", just let things unfold naturally because our innate knows when to bring us lessons at the right time for each of our customized spiritual evolution. When we conduct ourselves that aligns with our core self, the veil of forgetfulness that is purposely built into our human mind for the test will slowly be lifted, enabling us to perceive a clearer connection to the rest of our vast infinite self on the other side of the veil. Then we will begin to see the wonderment and grandness of this part of reality, instead of seeing it as what some call a living hell or a soul prison. With a clearer connection comes more awareness that spreads joy, calm, and peace. We are not born sinners or born to suffer. We are spiritually powerful beings with all the tools within to uncover our magnificence. The higher our state of consciousness, the more the tool box opens. It is not a coincident that at the pure unaltered core of all divine spiritually teachings uniformly teaches us a way of living that uplifts our consciousness. The first step to higher consciousness is having gratitude. Grateful to be here. Grateful to be alive. Grateful for experiencing both good and bad as lessons to gain greater wisdom and maturity. Without gratitude, we allow the ego survival mind to be dominant, projecting the false nature that embraces greed, selfishness, envy, separation, and superiority, all of which greatly hinders our spiritual evolution. All the best.

Stunning. Clear, warm, insightful. And did everyone notice the prescription for understanding suffering sounded just like the prescription for understanding vedanta -- hear, reflect upon and finally own it. I really appreciate when Hinduism embraces Buddhism like this and I know, Buddhists such as the Dalai Lama always give praise to all the Hindu traditions for their contributions to Buddhism, in the first instance of it's inception but also throughout the history of the religion. Interestingly to date no one has formulated a more universal and universally true formulation for dealing with suffering than the Buddha. All of psychiatry and psychology are riffs on radical acceptance of he four noble truths. Swami delivers thee goods once again.

Swamiji your talks are so well informed. I enjoy listening to your discourses . It is esoteric yet understandable. I seem to agree with those who believe Buddhism is a serious religion with much focus on human suffering. There was much suffering in India in the past with. extreme unbearable poverty ,then serious and incurable diseases like leprosy and TB and premature death of youth and children in the midst of serious suffering. Science and systems have greatly improved human lives and must be accessible to all. In fact I like the common philosophy that says - enjoy this life - not intended to be with alcohol, parties or overindulgent living A life on the middle path in moderation using techniques in moderation to balance life out works well for many. Equanimity , peace and an enjoyable happy life is achievable by many in the current era. The challenge of our times is getting most of humankind access to basic needs including health and for people to develop the mindset of moderation In wants, desires and also service for betterment of those that are helpless. The path of self discovery is a parallel path and the enlightened have experienced it . We can do that too especially and the start is with teachers like yourselves. Thank you.

As a Buddhist , also studying the Vedantas, it was very informative to get a perspective of Buddhism from yourself, Swami. What is evident is that at the core, the path to awakening are the same in all spiritual philosophies with slightly different nuances. Regarding the word suffering , although correct, it feels slightly more positive to think of it as unsatisfactory. Because on a mundane, day to day level, we are dissatisfied, disappointed or discontented that our desires and expectations are not being fulfilled or at the way things are, rather than suffering which we do in certain scenarios! 🙏🏾
