After we found rot in the mizzen mast and bowsprit of Vega we decided to spend more time in the Netherlands. We are replacing the wood that needs attention and retrofitting the entire ship back to its original cargo layout, as planned. Visit sailcargo.inc/vega to learn more about our journey.

It's great to see the craftsmanship of old translated to modern times. You can use modern tools but you cannot replace the eye of a real shipwright. absolutely love watching this restoration advance. More and more I see the need for your ship. Your foresight was amazing. I am saving and bookmarking all of your videos. Can't thank you enough for making these videos.

I don't think the rotten mizzen had been mentioned. But for me it is a pleasure to have this little extra mini series (I hope) of Vega's refurbishment to watch. I enjoy fine wooden boat craftmanship. Hope all goes well.

That Douglas Fir spar is beautiful. What a great way for the spirit of the tree to tour the world after living it’s life in one place-as the mast of a sailing ship.

Very cool. I live here in Cleveland, OH and last month we had the "Tall Ships' here. They come here once a year, so I hope you can spare the time and bring Vega here as well so we can enjoy her beauty.

As soon as I saw that opening shot I was like: "Yeah that looks like my country!" I don't know if Vega is still here in NL. If so maybe you could consider showing her to your subscribers in NL. It is only an hours drive from where I live.

Production note: Look at the camera during interviews, the off camera look only works when you establish the interviewer first, otherwise that personal connection you wish to create is totally lost, as are your viewers.

For the sake of life on this planet, why not use an aluminum mast? It doesn't look like wood? You can paint it...
@JimGDMAC
@JimGDMAC 2 жыл бұрын
Production of aluminium needs a lot of energy and has a high carbon footprint. Growing a tree locks up carbon in the wood and even after the sawmill and shaping the mast most of the carbon is still locked up in the remaining wood. Also a new tree can be grown to replace the old one locking up even more carbon.

You need to get a sparmaker to choose your timber next time, perfect chance to get the heart straight down the middle and you failed. Did you sound the log with a hammer? Bet you didn't. I don't know if I can stand watching this bunch of wood butchers any further. That is NOT the way to make and use a spar gauge. Can't you find proper shipwrights to do the job? Oh, btw, she doesn't have a bowsprit, when there's only one spar it's called a jibboom.
@Nerd3927

So when are you joining the crew? It is perfectly alright to be critical, as long as your are willing to offer your services. If not, then let the Do-ers Do.
@dnomyarnostaw
@dnomyarnostaw 2 жыл бұрын
Huh? You can't have a Jimboomba WITHOUT a bowsprit. A Jibboom IS an extension of a Bowsprit . Also, the core of most species is the weakest part of a log. You need the mature outer layers for maximum strength

Why do you and other romantics choose old fashioned out of date slow labour intensive vessels to carry cargo? If cargo by sail was commercially viable, which it isn't, a purpose built fast steel vessel would be best.
