SFV's story mode in terms of lore managed to bring everything and nothing at the same time. necalli is a jober. shadaloo had a meh ending. charlie got killed again. besides the low budget on single player, the visual novel-like prologue expanded way better on characters and the world of sf.

As a long-time Vega player, him discarding the mask had me jumping out my seat! "What could this mean!?" Is he totally done with Shadaloo; off to do his own thing? Does he want everyone to think hes dead? It probably seemed like a throwaway scene to most people but it was definitely a highlight of the story mode for me. It is a bit of a shame they dropped the Immortality plot point but I imagine it was never canon in the first place. If I recall correctly, several characters took or destroyed the S.I.N. research- I doubt more than one or two endings are canon.

Vega does happen to encounter Chun twice during her story and his win quito for Chun is "bathing in your blood will be the best beauty treatment of all" which does mean that atleast some rivalry still excists between them. Honestly, sfv is designed for newcomers and I don't think capcom really even cares about Seth and his dna. He was a bad villain anyways.

Ah yes! Now this is exactly what I wanted this series to be like! You go into good detail but rather than beat around the bush, you simply continue on where you left off, that's perfect! It's exactly how I envisioned "Who dat again?" to be like and I happy to see that's how it's turned out. There's always another thing I always considered in terms of fighting game characters, and that's whenever they are given theme music. It doesn't always happen in fighting games, but when they do, I always tried to pay attention to the music when I see them in action and see how it reflects the characters themselves. When certain characters play, I can hear their music and think 'Yeah, I can see how this fits their personalities.' It's also interesting to see how different versions of a character's theme over multiple games can make me wonder about how the characters themselves have changed, either with how they've grown or just with what they've been up to since last time.

No. It's not what they said. If they didn't care about story, then they wouldn't write an entire story for Nash, have unique interactions between characters, e.t.c. SFV was ALWAYS going to have a story, but Capcom didn't release it with the game originally.

Shadow Falls was a really fun mode and I definitely loved aspects of it but it also definitely gave some characters the shaft imo. Among them- Vega, Ken and Juri imo. Not nearly enough was done with them.

Actually something to note about SF5 is that it's a prequel to SF3. So there's a reason there is no interaction between Vega and Chun-Li, and why shadaloo is "back".

happy birthday vega!!! i always took with vega taking s.i.n's data in 4(as well as balrog being met by urien in his story as a test subject.) that it was part of the beginning of the twelve line up which in the comics is what vega works with gill's group on after shadaloo's fall as seth kinda is a more humanoid twelve with his abilities. didn't really mind him or most of the cast in story mode(outside necalli/wishing a few characters like sagat & sakura were involved.) as i felt it kept to vega's character with him being disgusted at the dolls vulgar use,thought it was funny seeing even juri call him a perv(which looking past the sociopath side he honestly is,though wish we saw him mention saving cammy in alpha 3 considering juri's story was getting even for being a hypocrite in 4.) and him throwing his mask away being him being done with shadaloo and retreating to either go back to being a matador like what he did when shadaloo broke down in 2 after akuma killed m. bison or like the comics joined the secret society/illuminati.

I have more of a different interpretation about Vega's position in SFV. It seems that during the whole thing he's obsessed with Cammy and the feelings she's having about her guilt over her past and her strong desire to free her sisters. Cammy is fully focused on her mission in SFV and a lot of characters point out how seriously Cammy is acting, telling her to chill out. Vega too probably noticed this and has taken some sick delight in the pain Cammy is going through. It fits with Vega's distorted personality, he wants to seek the beauty of Cammy's desire to save her sister but also the desperation at not being able to, which is why Vega follows her and take pleasure in trying to stop her, to see these emotions he sees some kind of beauty in. He pretty much gives up when the Dolls are freed and, with Cammy having accomplished her goal, the beauty he was seeking is no longer there, and he's defeated in some way. It's an interpretation I made based on a bunch of quotes the characters have in their win quotes and during story mode. Honestly Vega doesn't seem very well developed in SFV. He mostly acts as a foil to Cammy's story, he has no personal advancement and his plot from SFIV has been completely forgotten. He looked very good in Story mode, but his actual role was more shallow story-wise than what it seemed.

He may understand that immortality may stop him from dying but what about ageing, so he’d be looking to combat that.

They screw up some individual character stories, but they're doing a somewhat decent job of transitioning SF5's plot to link with SF3's. Vega tosses his mask, dolls are set free symbolizing the end of shadaloo. The illuminati is finally mentioned and being set up to be the new evil organization. Sean, and Oro make somewhat pointless appearances, Urien seals the deal....Street fighter 6 will definitely be a true sequel to Street Fighter 3. I've been waiting to 'parry' the hell out of people again since 3rd strike...

I agree on most that you say. Vega feels more... Vega-ish than ever, and continues to be an interesting character in a otherwise stale group of characters that is Shadowloo. I am excited to see what he will do in the next story arc. I have to say tho that I am not a fan of his new pose. While it does invoke the feeling of him being flamboyant and agile, it's really awkward from a fighting point of view. Just look how much he have to change his pose just to do his standing medium kick, or hell even walking. With Street Fighters deep rooted inspiration of real martial arts, it looks like a step backwards. His previous pose was simple and made sense, and I'd say it's due to SF4 poor animation quality that it looked stiff. He had a guard up, was light on his feet, and everything he did look quick and had finesse. That's something I have a gripe with in general with SF5 really. They have changed a lot of poses and animations and exaggerate them to make them have more personality, but in turn lost a bit of that realism that made the SF series stand out in a genre of increasingly ridiculous fighters. This is, however, a personal gripe and if Capcom feels like they want to go that aesthetic direction with the series they are free to do so.

To me Vega discarding his mask means he's given up assassination. The mask is meant to protect his face during fights. Now that he no longer wishes to fight, there is no point in keeping the mask anymore.
