I''m in my mid 60's and have only been vegan a few years. I sure wish I had done it sooner! I noticed when I switched, I had more energy and fewer aches and pains from inflammation. I can work our harder without feeling sore muscles. I love to exercise, including weights, chin ups, hiking, and Freestyle Frisbee. BTW I don't need meds or Viagra.

@@kramkalisthenics I know that a vegan diet is not automatically a healthy one, but it can be the healthiest. I eat a pure plant based diet centered around whole food plants with a good amount of variety. I pay attention to macro nutrients and micro nutrients. A great resource is www.nutritionfacts.org. The KZbin channel of the same name too.

I served in the military for 28+ years and have experienced physical fitness training on a daily basis, so I know what it feels like to be sore! I am plant based and can attest to the fact that there is no comparison in the recovery time. After completing the race at 61 years old, I rested after the race and was ready to go the following day for another workout. It never ceases to amaze me, thank you Rich Roll and Scott Jurek!

@Zolina Mohamad I am transitioning at the moment, estimate about 90% plant based now and 3 weeks in I am astonished at the difference. Last time I tried working out regularly I was so sore 48 hours after a gym session, this time I can barely tell I have done any exercise by the next day yet the results I am getting are fantastic. I am so glad I came across this way of eating online.

I started cutting out meat because of diverticulitis. Five years later, completely plant-based diet and I feel like I've discovered the fountain of youth! I shed 35 lbs, I have more energy, I sleep better, and I love not contributing towards animal cruelty and contributing to a cleaner environment. One of the biggest discoveries was improving my performance on my regular 65km, hilly bike ride, with zero recovery time needed.

Meat is better for performance and building muscle. It's not healthy or a big enough difference for normal people to be worried about, but it is for athletes. It's also easier to get a high volume of calories and fast digestible protein from meat. Eating for max performance output in a small time frame and eating for longevity are two different things.
@someguy2135

@@kim8dk A well planned vegan diet can give you both. Google "The Game Changers" and "Blue Zone diet." What they have in common is a plant based diet. All Blue Zone populations eat little or no meat. The Seventh Day Adventists are taught by their religion to not eat meat. Some still do, but the vegans among them are the healthiest. @@someguy2135 He's a strongman in the lower weight classes because he's not a top level athlete and he's never even been close to qualifying for World strongest Man. Also I didn't say you can't be a good athlete on a vegan diet, but you will be at a big disadvantage. Also watching obviously biased documentaries is not doing research and is not science. For one thing animal protein raises IGF-1 an anabolic hormone that stimulates muscle, bone and other tissues to grow (cancer also being one). Just because Whole Plant vegan diet is the healthiest and best for longevity, doesn't mean it's the best for maximizing performance, nature doesn't work like that.

Being fuller quicker surprises me. Maybe the fiber? For optimal health you should aim to work toward a whole food plant based diet. I do eat plant based meat, but only one serving of Tofurkey a week. Some vegan meats can be high in oils and salt. The Impossible Burger is one example. Be sure to drink lots of extra water to compensate for the extra fiber.

1 egg per day isn't considered dangerous as a risk for CVD compared to a society with a very high CVD rate where a difference in the intake of 200 mg cholesterol per day does no benefit, notice how it was only 1 egg per day and not more (because more than likely if someone isn't eating an egg they are replacing it with processed foods, e.g. refined flour pancakes cooked in oil). I know there was a socioeconomic issue with the study as well, so people who are financially better off and a better education end up eating healthier despite eating an extra egg. In epidemiology when baseline cholesterol and change in cholesterol isn't considered and they are studying CVD risk it's automatically a flawed design. We literally have clinical trials that negates this, and clinical trials are superior. If you would like to understand the issue behind such studies, (google): "Diet and serum cholesterol: do zero correlations negate the relationship?" And even just to add to that, did you see the P value? the findings are extremely insignificant. It's clearly a biased study, why did they not include an inverse "eating whole plant foods also reduces CVD risk by 30%!". I can guarantee you that link was found if they looked into the intakes of food in people and I can guarantee you the P value would have been significant.

Hello guys, I had a question I am a 17 year old tennis player who is soon about to go for university sports who has recently become a pure vegetarian(no eggs as well), my parents were shaky with my decision but did not support veganism at all. Now both of them ask me to eat meat saying that I need it to grow taller, and that my base for my body is based on how I eat till 19 and after that it doesn't matter what I eat. I feel very guilty even consuming dairy. It is very horrifying to be honest. But also it is scary when people around me ask me to eat meat and eggs saying that it can affect me for a lifetime if I dont eat meat regularly till the age of 19(till the age where I can grow).What do I do?My university as well has a lot of meat options and USA in general has many meat eaters which is where my university is @t in a way, even in university there are not many vegetarian or vegan options especially for athletes who travel once a week and are on the road during weekends.Also, meat has no vitamin c,carbs or fiber..I understand that but nobody is gonna stick to a diet that only has meat ya..people will obviously include plants in their diet which cover up the nutrients. I would really appreciate it if you answer my question and give me some clarity on the diet comment I passed. Thank you for reading!!!!

You must add such a large variety of foods that most have never even tried to successfuly obtain all mutrients needed especially in regards to amino acids etc. I would urge anyone attempting to make the switch, to do so gradually. Slowly decrease animal protiens over the course of a month. And realize u must eat SO much more volume wise, and more often to get the same caloric intake. If you love to eat but don't wanna get fat. It's a great diet as you can eat twice the amount of food and be same caloric total. As a collegiate distance athlete. The vegan diet has been an absolute night and day difference.

THE LIVING FOOD ADVANTAGE An advantage in that eating dark green leafy vegatables has over meat , not only is chlorophyll the blood of plants , but I can drink this blood while it is vibrantly ALIVE! I can grow moringa collards , dandelion, soft thisle , sweet potato leaves, coow pea leaves etc -even certain grasses on any small patch of ground in my yard and crush a handful of LIVING BREATHING tissue cells in my teeth . When you crush something that is alive and vigorously growing -pulsing with vitamin C , oxygen and Life force (prana) in your teeth , chew and swallow it its LIFE goes right through the walls of your moth into your blood! GIVING YOU POWER! That’s the POWER of eating LIVING foods . For all Paul Saladino’s talk of meat being such a concentrated complete source of nutrients it is dead and has no vitamin C .Our bodies can not synthesize collagen without vitamin C and collagen is what makes our connective tissue resilient , flexible and strong. A raw food dark leafy green eater will have strong tendons and heal much faster from any injury than a person who eats cooked greens or meat and the thing about meat is it fills you up so you have less room for the GARDEN FRESH VIBRANT LIVING green leafies .Meat takes long to digest . The blood of green leafies goes right into your blood. A molecule of chlorophyll looks exactly like a molecule of human blood except that it has an atom of magnesium in the center instead of iron but greens are VERY high in iron and our liver has no trouble at all in replacing that molecule of magnesium with iron so our red blood cells count soars. Vitamin C helps us absorb iron and meat has no vitamin C . A true carnivore’s body can make its own vitamin C a human body can not. A bowl of oat has no vitamin C but a bowl of SPROUTING Oats had abundant vitamin C because it ALIVE AND BREATHING .Vegans can eat foods in their RAW LIVING GROWING STATE meat eaters can not -at least not in the same volume vegans can . I’m 62 and I eat Kale with sprouted buckwheat . Still giving off oxygen, life force , viatmin C , Chlorophyll , calcium , iron when I crush them in my teeth and swallow them the life force goes right through the mucosa membrane of my mouth and throat .AND I LIKE THE FRESH WAY IT TASTES AND FEELS .The only thing I cook is beans . Ive been eating like that for 27 years .I still run kick ass 10 Ks and work 60 hour weeks on my farm and will remain active all my life . I never go to a doctor and don’t need medical insurance so I pocket that money as well . That’s is why athletes on a LIVING dark green leafy diet wit sprouted grains DOMINATE in their field. They have stronger more flexible tendons and more oxygen in their blood. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24826311/

I don't workout at all, but I can keep up with most of the troops in my Army unit. If there's a run, only the ones who've been training for years can beat me at endurance. The military should be promoting a bland based diet, because they're missing on some serious advantages.

Japanese people eat a lot of fish and rice and of course sea food. They eat a lot of fresh vegetable too and they have one of the longer lifespan. So, something is fishy here with this blaming only the meat itself theory.... I'm not against veganism I support people with ethics but I don't think it gives you the real point of the problem. I think it has a lot to do with the processed food and the supplements given to farm animals in the USA.

@@VincentMillet1 with what you just listed, you wouldn't have gotten all needed aminos. Do further research before trying again. If you decide too. You must eat way more volume wise to reach same caloric intake. You will feel fuller. But not technically be fueled the same. One week, is nothing, 1 month, u might start noticing something. But first get a blood panel done. You could be anemic, or simply depressed. Amongst so many other variables. But your list falls very short from a successful vegan diet.
