It's great you went vegan but you should only vegan because of the animals, the planet and your health not because of vegan KZbinrs. I decided I was going vegan once I watched Earthlings and Cowspiracy for the ethics but I was considering it even before I watched them, the information in the videos helped make the decision easier.

I can't choose one recipe over the other since they are both good budget-friendly meals. I'm always looking for different mac-n-cheeze recipes and have never used raw sunflower seeds..so this one is a Win for sure. The veggie gnocchi recipe is pretty much a staple in my house during the summer when fresh veggies are abundant. I appreciate your version using canned/frozen veg. I don't always have gnocchi but bowtie pasta is a good substitute...You mentioned Zaatar (the spice) and it is great on roasted veggies!!!

Yes, there is a lot you can get for cheap at the dollar store, but sometimes it is not always the best deal. It is good to shop around for prices and do the math to compare.

It's not like it's hard to get your hands on nutritional yeast either. I know a large handful of different stores and locations that sell the stuff in both bag form and container form, and when I buy it.. it lasts me months. Sure, it's up there in the price between $6-$8, but when you consider how many meals it can make.. it's really not that bad at all. It makes a great supplement to saving money at the Dollar Tree, or any savings based stores.

We live in very rural Missouri and we do have to drive almost 40 miles for a dollar tree but ours has a freezer section and Many options.

Excellent video and recipes. Great for Chris to do an alternative to cashnew nuts Mac and Cheese was a great idea also for budget cooking because cashew nuts are expensive (around £2.75 in Tesco). A salad challenge with no cooked ingredients would be a challenge.

You guys need to do a 99 cent only store challenge when you guys visit Cali again! They have fresh produce and they get left overs that other stores don’t sell so sometimes you find organic produce and also vegan products! At my store recently I found the gardien skillet meals and good planet vegan cheese for $1!! And in the past I have found just cookie dough, silk coffee creamer , silk yogurt!

I would definitely try both recipes! To prevent one of the meals from being cold next time, you could have one person do a lunch and the other a dinner later in the day. Or you could cook your dinners on two consecutive nights so that you have warm food to enjoy.

Once upon a time Whole Foods carried a zaatar hummus, and it was amazing!!! Then the got rid of it and my life has NEVER been the same! If you get the seasoning, I highly recommend making hummus with it!

Sub white beans for the nuts or seeds in Mac and cheese sauce. So good. I like it with broccoli and potatoes. Also, I much prefer the vids where you help each other. So pleasant to watch

Absolutely, both rice and beans make fantastic foods, and are wonderfully cheap and affordable. Additional staples are potatoes, pasta, and oats. It doesn't even have to be Italian based pasta either, it could be something as simple as homemade Ramen. Bulk foods are the best.

I like the dollar store frozen fruit a lot better than the veggies. To me the vegetables taste kind of weird and not as good, but the fruit is just as good for smoothies as any other frozen fruit. I also get beans and lentils, plus some seasonings there.
