Another quick tip! I take the two rice paper sheets literally dip them in water and slap them together. They stick together immediately and THEN I use the kitchen scissors to cut strips. These were great! There are different options for different uses - rice paper, mushrooms, eggplants, unsweetened coconut shreds. Find the one for the use you love. This one is a keeper!

Garrett Berrier The reason vegans aren't eating meat isn't because they're scared of killing animals. It's mainly due to avoiding the bad treatment that factory farm animals go through as well as reducing the demand for meat so the negative effects of factory farming (namely the huge carbon footprint of feeding/maintaining animal farms) are lessened. Not only that but there are many cultures that don't eat meat at all that mainly developed in the Indus River Valley due to the ease and safety of just growing and farming.
@Leo-bd7fw6 жыл бұрын
Julie Flores because THAT’S NOT BACON, we dont care what u eat, i mean veganism is a good cause, but dont call that vegan bacon, thats just as dumb as saying, vegan pig steaks, or vegan ribs, that just makes no fucking sense
@hanstun1 Жыл бұрын
The trick with rice paper is that you can make it do anything you want, for a BRIEF time. You can soak them in marinade but you need to be quick and take them out long before you think they are ready as they continue to soften. No need for brushes, just get your timing right and be a quick worker. If you have ever done fresh spring rolls you know that they go from splinters to pile of slime pretty fast.

BETTER RESULTS: Coat the counter/plate/cutting board, place first full dry sheet, then add some more paste to clue together, then the top later, another paste layer THEN cut. Soft enough to cut without crumbling. Cutting should be the last step before putting in stove.
@mandiegarrett17066 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's what I was thinking too. Instead of cutting the sheet first and use water, why not use the marinate to glue the two sheet together then brush the marinate on other sides, by now it will be soft enough to cut with scissors and pop in the oven. I am going to try this method.

@robothandss8 жыл бұрын
Definitely get some liquid smoke, don't skip it. If you're in America, it's less than $2 at the grocery store in the BBQ sauce aisle. It's well worth getting and is what makes it taste like bacon. It's super versatile as well you can use it to make anything you want have a smokey, grilled taste. You could make it without, but it won't have that smokey taste. :)

Gerardo Razo Jr Sorry for the late reply. I finally tried it and I have to say it's pretty damn good! The only problems I had was working with the rice paper. I bought a super sharp knife and I managed to cut my hand just fine, but it didn't work on the dry rice paper. All it did was shatter it into small pieces. So I found that wetting the two sheets first, sticking them together then cutting them with kitchen shears worked best. And I had trouble getting the sheets of rice paper to stick to each other so I used warm water instead of cold. Other than that, everything went smoothly!

I am not a fan of fake anything I don't want to eat anything that resembles dead animals personally. But I am a fan of helping Omni eaters become vegan. I also recently learned that Oreos are not vegan as they use sugar that is processed with bone char. SO I don't push that one anymore. I do push any vegan substitutes to convince people they can live without a murdered sentient being on their plate.

I process meats and often make my own bacon. this gets my approval and I'll be trying it out for my lighter lunches and spring roll recipes to add crunch.

Vegan bacon waffles!!!! YAY! And girl, you are a natural comedienne. I found this because you can only make so many spring rolls, so I wanted to see what else I can do with my rice paper.

Hi Edgy: I tried your bacon recipe. There is an asian supermarket near me so everything is CHEAP. OK, it's not 100% bacon, but it did the trick. My doctor recommended that I go vegan because of some health issues and in the past couple of months, my blood pressure is back to normal, as is my cholesterol and my bloodwork is perfect. I have lost 16 lbs (I need to lose more but....) your bacon recipe definitely calms my bacon cravings. Keep up the good work!

I love this recipe!!! It is even better than bacon! I found it much easier cut the strips with scissors...when cutting with a knife, the paper would break. On a side note, Candice, your hair looks amazing in this vid!!

I use a similar recipe with sliced KO mushrooms. The ingredients are the same except I hadn't thought to add tamari or nutritional yeast. I'll have to try that. thanks!

THIS IS AMAZING AND TASTE JUST LIKE REAL BEACON! tip: wet rice paper a little bit, but no too much to cut it into slices, it doesn't crack and will end up drying before you put them in the oven! Thanks edgyveg! You're my fav, I can't wait to try other of your recipes!

I do enjoy the contrast of salty crispness served with sweet things like pancakes. That does have crisp appeal too. Thanks! 8- )

Great recipe. I cut my paper with a Fiskars paper trimmer at 1 7/16 in and the pieces come out 6 same size using square wrappers, cook 3 pieces per slice, bake 5 min at 350 F and shut the oven off and let sit for 1 hour. Rings my bell. Keep um coming.
