I gotta say, Resilience is the best way to summarize Vegeta in this episode, more so than in any other episode where he showed legit effort. It’s honestly an aspect of both his pride and his character. If Goku is determination, Vegeta is definitely resilience. He embodies the mantra of continuing to get up and try no matter how many times life tries to knock you down and keep you down. Vegeta knew he wouldn’t be a challenge for Kid Buu, but he kept getting up to try anyways. As brutal as it may be to watch, it’s irrefutable evidence of his growth as a character, continuing to get thrashed in a one-sided fight for the sake of his rival. You gotta love him.

And this episode is a proof of why Vegeta is my most favorite anime character of all time. He is all about resilience, and his character development is the best there is. Even in Super, we see how the writers massacre Goku's character ( how he went from goofball-badass mixture to a complete goofball), but Vegeta's character continues to develop even there.

The part where Goku saids he held back, in the Japanese version he was implying that he had new move he was trying to use, but Buu just gave him no opportunity to power up and do it. What move was he powering up for? We’ll never know. Maybe it was the Dragon Fist?? Vegeta showing grit in this episode was awesome. Even though Kid Buu has him overpowered, Vegeta’s Super Saiyan 2 strength allows him to survive and bounce back.

But yeah, other than that, he's tried to stand his ground bravely.

Even if goku put out all of his energy into a blast from the beginning he wouldn't be 100% certain he could have killed buu. Goku literally only lost to Kid Buu directly because of the strain & energy drain of SSJ3. Goku's living body could not generate enough stamina to sustain SSJ3, which is why he fell out of the form in the 1st place. On top of that Kid Buu has maximum aggression, infinite stamina and haxed regeneration. And yet in the manga, the battle was still equal even though Kid Buu had all these advantages. The anime just added in scenes with Kid Buu laughing, emoting and powering up to take on the Spirit Bomb; all making it seem like Kid Buu is leagues above where he truly is.

In the manga, Goku throughout this arc has mentioned that super saiyan 3 is a transformation that he can only maintain in the other world. This is my favorite episode by far, so far we have seen Vegeta gettting beaten down by various villians like Freeza, Android 18, Perfect Cell. Imho Kid Buu is the purest and strongest Buu (Goku, Vegeta and the Kai's stated during the transformation that he was gaining more energy instead of weakening), but Super Buu with Gohan absorbed (Buhan) is considered stronger than Kid Buu for obvious reasons, but I still consider that Kid Buu > Super Buu > Majin Buu is the order without the obsorbtions.

@@deadso Those statements about him gaining energy instead of weakening are when he was reverting to ultra buu(with south kai absorbed) also, goku said that both he and vegeta together couldn't beat base super buu, but he had no problem having both himself and vegeta take turns against kid buu. thkat's also why both goku and vegetas confidence that they can beat him shoots up as soon as they realize he's stabilizing in kid buu form

My problem with this arc, even when i saw this airing live for the first time as a child. I found myself saying "but where's gohan?" like non fucking stop. Vegeta = evil = kept his body to fight buu Gohan = good = Doesn't kept to keep body to fight buu??????????? WTF????????????? i never felt like their entire fight mattered cuz i just kept waiting for gohan to show up. The fact that he never did made me hate this ending for this arc. They easilly had someone that could kill buu.

I agree and is one of my issues with the way they ended it. I get that they wanted it to end how it does, but they never explain why the Kai's can't just go get Gohan and bring him to the Supreme Kai's planet. Gohan and hell, even Gotenks if they wanted to get the boys, could beat Kid Buu handidly, who is weaker than Super Buu. Instead, Kabitokai (someone who spent the entirety of the arc working with Gohan and working on his training) just forgets about Gohan entirely to watch the fight like some sort of Pay per view.

Vegeta didn't keep his body. Yemma was desperate so he basically got Vegeta's soul out of Hell and put it back in his body and sent him on a suicide mission to face Buu. Gohan probably died less than half an hour ago, so his little soul cloud probably just arrived at the back of a really long line on Snakeway.

This is why Trunks is the only Sayain that doesn't play games he doesn't waste time and has his priorities in order he doesn't care about Pride or proving his strength. If you done harm he will end you no matter the situation he doesn't care no second chances if you've killed innocent people. Kid Buu is the weakest Buu. He didn't get weaker from absorbing the Kais, he got stronger; it just made him more tame. The Fat Buu we see in the beginning of the Buu Saga is actually stronger than Kid Buu and Goku would've still lost to him just like he was losing to Kid Buu. Goku just overestimated himself and didn't realize how strong Buu really was both times. The Kai's planet is actually supposed to be as big as the actual physical universe, so when they're damaging the planet straight through, they're actually sending a blast from one end of the universe to the other except instead of empty space it's all mass. Powerful!
