I find myself liking your video's even before I watch them, because I know I will. My wife's best friend who now lives in England is from Ipoh. I love the oldy world Architecture. Glad you managed to have a Tiger to wash down the rice wines. You came out of the 100 YO bar with a healthy glow. There is a lot to be said for alternate medicine, I suffered with Eczema for years tried all the usual medicines but the thing that finally fixed it was aroma therapy, I had a course which lasted 2 months essential oils drooped in a bath. I havent had Eczena for over 25 years now.
@VeggiesOnTour Жыл бұрын
Thats pretty incredible, we naturally have our reservations but hearing that is interesting. We’ve never had eczema but know from friends it can be a pain. I have a few myself against the MSM but it’s not Chinese medicine 🤣 - don’t use normal toothpaste, it gives you ulcers (due to the SLS content that is actually corrosive to skin and breaks down your gums). That was actually thanks to the locals we were with, great shout. Huge huge thanks and super kind for the donation, in the classic British fashion, when we receive something like this we say “you really shouldn’t have!. Glad you’re into them, got a couple of interesting stories coming up so hopefully good stuff to follow. 🙏🏻 Ipoh is absolutely grand and still a favourite of ours, the people are just incredibly friendly there so I’m not surprised!

Ahhh... _putu piring_ is one of my favorites! 😋👏👍 It's one of the many delicious traditional malay _kuih_ and best eaten fresh and hot. But we also need to watch on 3 things: 1)the core ingredient used is _gula melaka_ which is creamy and more tasty, and not brown sugar, 2)the coconut flesh used is young, and grated, not from an old coconut, and not from using a blender, 3)the _putu_ is done, ie. completely steamed, else the rice flour feels still raw and not nice at all. A trick I personally do to get even more oomph! from a steaming _putu piring_ is to gently grind/press the grated coconut with a finger against its banana leaf backing, just to get a tiny bit of the coconut milk oozing out already and only then i eat the _putu,_ then it'll taste very yummy from the combined creaminess of the juicy coconut and the sweet _gula melaka_ 😋😋😋😋😋

Pat & Giulia ... Since Malaysia has been like your 2nd Home, u two are definitely living like a local ... At some point u two are more locals than d locals coz u two have been to some of d local places that we locals haven't been to yet ... And d best part, i chuckled when in d video Pat was speaking d local Malay language to d locals while d locals spoke to them in English ... Normally in some countries d foreigners spoke in English and some of d locals there would replied them in their local languages but it is d other way round in Malaysia here ... Pat spoke to d locals in d Malay language and d locals spoke to Pat & Giulia in English ... Even in that language part, Pat is already like a local coz he spoke our local Malay language to d locals and ironically d locals instead replied him in English ... I can't help myself but to chuckle when i watched this video ... 😄

Hi guys, the sweet herb that you tried is licorice root. Besides the sweetening effect, it is also used in herbal combinations as a tempering ingredient. Kind of like smoothening out the effects of each herb in the prescription. FYI, Chinese herbal medicine is mostly plant-based & those exotic animal-based ingredients often comes with a princely price tag. So fear not & go tried them. Also in China, they have lots of folks who are practicing vegetarians or have religious restrictions on what they can consume, so in general, almost all herb medicines are made for such people in mind. FYI, the black Jelly could be the more common Herbal Grass Jelly. There is another similar looking one which is made from turtle shell (Gui Ling Kao). This one taste bitter & often goes together with honey. Prices will let you know the difference. 😜✌

Yu tiaw should not be eaten plainly. It must be dipped into a cup of hot coffee first or whatever hot drinks that you prefer. Just a word of advice, never carry your handbag next to the road anywhere you walk. Place your handbag on the shoulder which is not next to the road. Just beware of snatch-thieves. Overall, Malaysia is a safe place to visit. Welcome to Malaysia.
@VeggiesOnTour Жыл бұрын
Ahh that makes so much sense. Tbh it was quite good even on its own, must be amazing dipped in coffee! Thanks for the tip 🙏🏻 we try to be as careful as possible with bags although Malaysia has always felt safe to us - I usually keep everything valuable in the bag strapped to my chest and only use the should bag for minor things we like to carry

the difference between straits chinese and non-straits chinese. straits chinese landed in malaysia before the british set foot in malaysia in 1824. they absorbed lots of orang asli and malay culture. there are straits chinese of kelantan, of pahang and terengganu (but the pahang straits chinese all moved to terengganu since terengganu and pahang are historically one), of melaka and singapore (meaning johor), and of penang (meaning kedah). there are also straits chinese of sarawak, labuan and sabah (meaning brunei). non-straits chinese came to malaysia after the british and they are mostly good at speaking their mother dialects such as cantonese, hokkien, hakka and shanghainese as well as the national language of china which is mandarin or beijing chinese.
