Vehicle Thermostat replacement - on our Mitsubishi L200

In Portugal, for reasons we cannot find out - owners (or garages) like to remove the thermostat and keep it running without one !
Our L200 we purchases used and had no thermostat - we have replaced it once, but having done a flush, added a new radiator plus pipework, we may as well pop a new thermostat in.
If you think you need a new one - it could be :
Odd Temperature Gauge Readings. Your temperature gauge should register cold when you first start your car and slowly build up to normal as the engine warms up. ...
Air Temperature Changes. ...
Coolant Leaks. ...
Strange Sounds. ...
Heater Problems.
It's not that tough a job, the part is cheap, so lets do it !!

Hi friend, great video! I have a question: since the cooling system was rusty and when you added coolant, did it cause any problems over time? How has it behaved?

To be honest, I really went to town on it - cleaned with wynns, new radiator, new pipes - 5 flushes with water etc - I cannot believe how clean it has stayed - just done 5K around Spain, so well tested now, still pink coolant :)

I have a l200 k74 from 2005 for 4 years and this time has taught me that the thermostat is only original - no replacement is so well calibrated - I'm waiting for more movies with the l200 in the lead role!

The grill is stock, at this point in time, it was plasti dipped black - since peeled it off :)

Hi Reyson - we get some bits from Autodoc - they are very poor at offering different parts for the car, when clearly only one would fit, so take care. We ordered one for our Panda, the photo was 100% spot on, yet the part that arrived was different, so order by OEM code, not what looks right. For a better service, we use www.mitzybitz.com/mitsubishi-l200, but the import tax here into Portugal, is very high (so an expensive option). We cannot tell you the one to get (sorry) it will be year/model & country specific. Hope you sort it

@@jnr1989 we do - it’s hard to get parts here as well, we cannot afford Mitsubishi parts do we try and use recycled parts or Autodoc

We can only agree - we bought the L200 / Mercedes ML & Panda (the 2008 one) all used - all 3 had the thermostat removed ??? it must be a Portugal thing ! asking around, some say it makes the car run cooler - which is utter bollocks im my opinion 🤣

@@DrivenMadShow the theory is, to run the engine cooler but the thermostat is supposed to get the best operating temp on engine (which implies that cooler is not neccesarily better???) At least from diesel engines. I support keeping thermostat. A lot of mechanics are lazy and careless too
