I met Mindy once, which is to say I bumped into her outside the Farmer's Market on 3rd & Fairfax. She is literally shaped like a cylinder and is covered with keloid scars. I believe her high school years were probably shit as a result, and that the character she played on "The Office" was not a satire of dumb "It girls" as we all believed: it was what she actually wanted to be. She exists in a weird tension between wanting to mock everyone who bullied her and wanting to be those people.

This is a great example of the new norm for shows: Hate watching. It's MEANT to be horrible; so much so that it makes you want to watch it in anger than anything else. Rings of Power did a very similar thing too. Terrible ratings and reviews are, in this case, GREAT for a show like this cause that's exactly what it wants to be known for. In being so damn awful it achieves popularity, and thus people watching it not for how good it is, but for how bad. Ratings care little for the reason you're watching - only that you are.

Except that it wasn't great, for either show. Velma tried to push that it was 'The Most Popular Animated Show' Netflix ever made, but they did this by omitting and manipulating data that people would be aware of since Velma was only like the 4th Netflix original animated show, and given one of it's competitor's was Big Head of all things, that was not a high bar. It's like someone saying that they got the highest grade in math in their class... while failing to mention that there were only 4 other remedial students in that class and that one of them just smeared feces on their test paper. As for Rings of Power... yeah that show bombed, and HARD. First episode got decent views because obviously people were going to be interested to see the train wreck, but then it turned out that the Train Wreck was unbelievably boring and so more than 70% of it's viewers dropped the show after the 3rd episode, a massive and very sudden drop off. The only way networks can push the illusion of these shows doing well is to quite literally make up their own alternate realities and then pretend it's real. And they still have plenty of Yes Men among "professional" critics to simp for them
