Velma Review of Season 2 Episode 4, Mindy Kalings HBO Max Scooby Doo adaptation in animation. Velma engages in a seance with Beyonce frequently mentioned. Meanwhile Daphne and Fred have flashbacks to a better time, the 80's. The lesson of Velma this episode is that the past is awful and Velma's modern humour so much better. Is Velma worth watching?

Velma review of Season 2 Episode 4 this episode sees Velma and gang hating on the history of entertainment and society as a whole. You see the modern way of doing this is so much better than the 80's, back when entertainment was better. No we must forget that and instead embrace "meta commentary that makes you think", like Velma. No I'm not joking. Velma seems to suggest that her show is vastly superior to everything from the 80's and that men must leave behind everything from that time. I'll pass thanks. But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

- a small suggestion: pull back on the "rapid edits", ie cutting out the natural pauses between sentences, a requirement of zoomer YT. it's discomforting visually, as you dart around the screen, rocking back and forth- and audibly, as your cadence and intonations clash with the quick cut. the last, drawn-out word, which feels like the sentence slowly, smoothly, coming to a stop...is then juxtaposed against the rapid nature of drawing breath and punctuating the start of an observation with more prominent, rising, sound

They have no talent for original content, anyone remember that horrible Safespace comic? So the only for their ideals to be spread to the average joe who usually ignores them the only option left is to inject into popular well known IPs and that also helps you not try hard enough after all "the brand self itself, no need to actually make something of quality or anything".

Well between that and the amount of packages now, one would never get done. They'd have to double the routes if we had to try to have a customer interaction for every package. Apparently they had a baby that they had just gotten to sleep and I was disturbing that by doing what I was trained to do.

Of course, I'm usually soaked with sweat, wearing a kilt, and carrying a chainsaw or mattock, so it speaks well for delivery truck drivers that they don't all flee... Not exaggerating, btw. One day I came stumping around the corner in kilt, sleeveless shirt, sweatband and boots, with an axe dagling from my hand, to come face-to-face with an Amazon driver. She said "Good afternoon! Want me to leave it by the garage?" She never even skipped a beat. Of course, I'm 54 and a nice guy. Maybe folks can just tell.

I remember a time when even a tiny whiff of self insert got your creation thrown out the window and would go unfunded. Now it's the rage and seemingly they don't recognise just how boring and bland they are. Seriously listen writers you are the worst kind of boring. You are supposed to be the mad inventors creating all kinds of bizarre creations all fuelled by your imagination. No wonder fiction has taken a literal nose dive in quality.

@ceinwenchandler4716 Ай бұрын
Ooooh... not sure I would say self-inserts were ever unilaterally banned. Did you know that Luke Skywalker is a George Lucas self-insert? I seem to remember the original Star Wars trilogy being pretty successful. My point is, self-inserts are not inherently bad. You can write a character with your own personality (mind you, only ONE character) and make it work. You have to be willing to treat that character like any other character, though. It's when the self-insert leads to your ego taking over that things go south fast. Or when you try doing it with zero skill. Or when you have the most boring, insufferable personality of all time - that problem tends to go hand in hand with the ego thing mentioned above.
@MajorSmurf
@MajorSmurf Ай бұрын
@@ceinwenchandler4716 I guess I should say the current brand of self inserts are inherently bad. Although I will say the general rule of avoiding self inserts should be understood and applied by most creators (I don't mind a random side character being a self insert, MC are where I generally apply it). Not necessarily because it wouldn't work if you're an interesting personality but because it goes against the most fundamental principle of creation. Imagination. Why would you want to create yourself? Surely you want to make someone who is different to you so you can put them in situations and think of what they would do. Now there is nothing wrong with having a character who has a similar personality, experiences, skills or morality to you/creator although arguably it also depends on what world you're making and as you say don't have the personality of a wet towel. No way would I survive if I created a self insert in some of the worlds I've thought of. I also just think it's more fun to create and follow someone you're not like. It's why villains are so fun to read about.

"Meta, that's our generation's thing"... Mindi Kalin is almost right. Meta was the 1970s and 1980s thing (think Monty Python, Mel Brooks, Saturday Night Live and the alternative comedy revolution), and Kalin is a couple of years short of being Generation X, so it is her generations thing. She seems to forget that she's in her 40s, not her teens though. Diversity was the '90s and 00's thing. The stuff that Kalin is primarily responsible for is timeless, in that it's total garbage in any decade in human existence.
