I’m 29 and this is some of the music I was raised on. It for sure made an impact on my taste in music. I still visit it often.

it's a shame that Christian metal isn't as popular as it should be. Vengeance Rising, Mortification, Living Sacrifice are all bands that should be in the same conversation with Metallica, Cannibal Corpse and Slayer.

Awesome! Legendary release in the Christian thrash scene. Saw them live several times including twice at Cornerstone festival - once when they were booked as The Flowers of Power to throw people off. It didn’t really work! Thanks for the reaction.

I never got into Vennom, but these guys have more of that sound and feel more than any thrash band

Thanks Shane. Have only been familiar with the first two albums with the OG lineup from back in the day but this is by far my favorite album by them. Saw them back in 91 at The Thirsty Whale in Illinois. Good stuff.

It's nice to find a likeminded person. People always say Human Sacrifice but I'm all about Once Dead and it's not even in the same ballpark. I wore out 2 cassettes of this album. Finally got it on CD. Absolutely LOVE this recording.

I was real sad when Roger Martinez left the faith. If there’s one thing that whole thing taught me, it’s don’t put your faith in other people…. People will let you down. But if you truly put your faith God, he will never let you down.

I have the lyrics to this song seared into my memory. You should have had the lyric sheet to read along... there are some very funny lines. The theme is drug addiction and how the dude is struggling to "get out" of the addiction, but finds hope in Christ. The start of the song is pretty humorous, too, with banter between some band members... "there's somebody waiting on the phone for ya, and I gotta get my... I gotta get m... I can't get out!"

I've been waiting for 3 years for you to do something from VR - Once Dead. Not the greatest production but one of the tightest bands to ever record music, religious or otherwise. After this album, the guys weren't really getting along with the vocalist (Roger Martinez) too well so they formed Die Happy which is a much different sounding band. DH is a nod to the bluesy hard rock bands of the 70's. You should check them out as well. Thanks again for doing a reaction to a tune from Once Dead. I'd recommend Warfare, Cut Into Pieces, The Whipping Post, Herod's Violent Death, or Among The Dead. Honestly, the whole album is worthy of your ears, Shane. Check it out.

Ah, great memories! I followed Vengeance for quite some time. The band had a break up after this album, if memory serves me correctly. Roger Martinez (lead singer) continued on with Vengeance acquiring all the debt, while the rest of the members went on to form a band called Die Happy and released two albums: a self-titled debut and Volume II. Vengeance released two more records after Once Dead. After that fourth record Roger basically turned his back on Christianity for awhile.

The heavy metal horns are not a Satanic reference, per say.....Although Dio made it famous, it has been used before. The symbol was actually intended at a sign to ward off evil......I guess

@@ShaneDiablo Thank you so much my friend!! Looking forward to it! The drummer in that album (Exhumed of the Earth) was Jayson Sherlock, the drummer for Mortification's first 3 albums and Morti's live album "Live Planetarium". I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I do. Grace and Peace!

All well here, this is a great channel. I just recently found it and I see you have already done a track from Die Happy (which I will go watch now). Maybe check out the Christian band SAINT the song “The Blade”. Priest vibe and an excellent band although they have a different vocalist now! Looking forward to more tunes on your channel!

Once dead, twice shy... 😹 I was OK with the music for the most part; not so much with the vocal.... I did appreciate the old 80's sound and vibe to it, though......

That was a typical vocal style of thst that era of thrash and early death metal. Like you said Death, Kreator, Hobbs Angel Of Death, Dark Angel, Obituary all them had similar styles to their vocals. Pretty good ,but i have to agree that the music was great but not so much the singing. I liked Anthrax and Testament when it came to the singers choice of vocal approach. I could handle Savatage when it came to singing. Even though Jon didn't have the greatest voice, it worked. It wasn't that growing demonic style. Metal Church was another band with a great singer.

the BAND left the vocalist after the first 2 albums. There's no comparison between those and the third album. First two are classic and kick- ass; the third BLOWS
