Yeah, that was Blue John Canyon off the Horshoe Cyn section of Canyonlands NP. I'd really like to see Chris go over to that section and work his way South through the maze - he was VERY close to the start when he was at Goblin Valley near Hanksville.

At 27 years I decided to “go west young man” from my home at the time Pennsylvania. Since then it’s been 38 more years in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Texas and Arizona. I prefer the western states, but there’s lot of history to explore within those eastern states.

You should definitely take the opportunity to stay & poke around more often. Also, just a little extra research might mean you could find some of the places you've been ever so close to but missed. All Trails is great for this as well. Avenza also has the classic DeLorme Gazetteer and Benchmark Atlas for $20 each. While I like having the paper copy with me, you can't beat how Avenza puts that blue dot right where you are at on the map.

Hi Chris,,I've been watching your videos for about 2 years. The Escalante and Capital Reefs vids were among the 1st. This is the 1st time I've commented. A major thing I appreciate about you,,you never give exact locations and that's how it should be. It's not exploring unless you have to figure things out for yourself. You DO give interesting and helpful tips though,,and that's mostly a good thing. The 1st slick rock trip I took was to Moab in 74,,about a year after reading Desert Solitare for the 1st time. I was 15 and my buddy was 18. We spent a week in Arches and Canyonlands and I've been hooked ever since. I call myself a mountain man,,but I'm just as much a desert rat. This beautiful hike and that grand campsite was why I felt like commenting. What you said about just hanging there an extra night struck me as correct. The desert heals! I've often found a nice rock that soaked up the heat of day,,,and just sat or laid there and watched the sun set and the stars roll in as I enjoyed the warmth of the rock as the evening chilled down. It brings a special calmness to your heart. The Green river is special to me too. I've followed it for very nearly it's full length,,from birth in Wyoming to the confluence. The Natives called it the Seedskadee. Never have heard exactly what that means. I think it's a Shoshone word.. sorry for prattling on. Just wanted to say thanks,,and I think you're one of the few I could camp with. Keep searching man.

Hey there, we like your philosophy of preventative maintenance for Orange-y. Our preference too! Rather not bring a lot of fluids and parts that will take up precious space. By chance, did you upgrade to an AGM battery? If so, which brand? We are currently exploring Grand Staircase Escalante but plan on visiting Green River as well. Mahalo for awesome video!

Much like hiking the AT, or other epic trails, you soon find out exactly what you need and don't need when you overland. Over time, I have noticed that any change to your gear is studied closely before a decision is made. Once the kit is fine tuned, it tends to remain the same.
