One of the greatest days of my life as a fan of Venus Williams. I was so looking forward to this match. I was nervously checking the scores at work. At 5-3 Hingis in the third, I distracted myself, prayed, and prepared myself for the possibility that Venus might lose. 5-10 minutes later I turned the scores back on seeing 5-7, thinking Hingis won, only to look closer to see that it was Venus who had won. I was ecstatic!!!! Thank you Venus Williams!!!

Venus was so tactful on the last two sets. She knew exactly were to place the ball. The line calls were awful against both players. Venus showed she had more than power and displayed awesome soft touches at the net. We all knew Vee was the better player and the match was on her racquet, if she kept the errors down Hingis had no chance and that's what happened.
@LuLu-nw6bi4 жыл бұрын
I loved their matches: Venus with her brutal power, big serve and killer strokes, also dangerous net attacks vs Hingis who is a great returner, counterpuncher, superb and patient tactician, with exquisite lobs and passing shots, as well as effective net game. Both were all-courters when playing their best. Both wonderful movers, and elegant each in their own way. Venus relied more on her amazing speed and reach, Hingis on footwork, court sense and anticipation.

One of the best tennis matches of the beginning of the third millennium of our era. Martina, as the first racket of the world, played great, but with the arrival of the strong and aggressive Williams sisters on the WTA world Tour, her golden time came to an end. In 1999, Martina lost to the younger Williams in the final of the US Open, and in 2000 she lost to the older Williams at Wimbledon and in the USA. In the same year 2000, she lost to Lindsay Davenport in the final of the Australian Open, and in 2001 and 2002 she lost to Jennifer Capriati. And that's it. Her magnificent century ended at the age of 22.

Never been a fan of Hingis. I don't consider her "best" simply because she, Graf, and all the previous "great" players never had a competition like the Williamses. As soon as Serena and Venus came they all "retired". They know they didn't have the power to match the sisters and it shows they're game is not all that. Graf knew for sure that's why she opted to retire before Venus or Serena started beating on her like the sisters did (especially Serena) on those that remained.
