I missed the part in my Landrover owners manual where it says in order to keep the car in working order you need to be an experienced and determined machinist , mechanic and blacksmith with a son who is a blacksmith as well, you must be as determined as a German or actually be German, have a hoist, a workshop , a full set of machinist tools, a lathe, a welder, and have a very pretty and helpful optimistic wife. I missed that part in the manual.

Yes I get the point. I have no garage and a very sloping drive. But I carry out general maintenence like oils and improvements. Not looking forward to replacing the main belts but suppose I need to think about how to tackle that job and get all the necessary tools and bits before I start. Anyway great comment.

Top marks to Vera for identifying the parts! It was so cool. It was very satisfying seeing the components being cleaned, sanded and painted so throughly! It is better than when it ran off the production line! A great video and thanks for the never ending cheer and humour! You are my favourite couple on KZbin!

It's looking great Christian, I thought I was a bit OTT about cars but you take it to whole new level, when it comes to water traps Mercedes have perfected it with the W211, they design them in and then add seam sealer to ensure it can't escape and every spot weld is a rust spot. cut away the seam sealer and watch the water run out. I'm begining to see the Discovery in a different light.

Another fantastic awesome episode! Makes me proud to be a LR3 owner. Your frame is a work of art! Never knew about those water traps which explained why my left rear control arm bracket failed. All good and repaired. Curious if you considered repostioning the Air Block valves to make them more accessible for maintenance, if even possible. Just a thought. Your talents and passion are inspiring , as well as the one liners. Cant wait for next weeks.

Sounds incredibily silly but I was inspired by you to buy one recently. I have sold my beloved BMW 3er from 2014 with 2 ltr diesel in a favor of 2005 Dicovery with 4.4 petrol engine. Great job and awesome dedication 👍 Highly recommend Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 and / or UC clear film waxes would be a good rust defence after the Disco’s back together. Spray in the chassis sections and generally all over. Bilt Hamber has a lot of experience in corrosion control and are relatively cheap… you can do the hole chassis and underside with one aerosol….. helps stop the fastener’s, bare metal and any scratches from building everything back together from corroding 👍

I got back yesterday evening after a 3.642 kilometre trip through central France and Aragon in Spain, Now have 214.460 km on the speedometer and how beautifully the vehicle is running. It's also got to do something with this channel that gives you inspiration to get the job done properly and by yourself thank you to both of you for that! But I really think Christian you need a press for home too! I know my chassis pretty well too after having redone the underbody for MOT last January and now I know what the purpose of those two weights are. Next week I put it up on my heavy duty ramps on the street for the 5W-40 oil change and air filter before we set off for our trip through the south of England via Dieppe-Newhaven, see you about guys...😘

Christian, I was surprised that you did refresh the Land Rover like a Toyota owner would've done it. I was expecting chemical cleaning and afterwards dipping the bits in a zinc bath. I did notice the cold welds during the disassembly. Must have been a Land Rover apprentice welding it up after a Manchester United game. Land Rover should be embarrassed, but they don't, because their thinking is that the engine will grenade before the frame will rust to dust. They've build in frame rot in the Disco I and II why not offer the same to LR3 owners. Regarding the goofy weight ballast on the frame, If Vera and Christian would eat and drink more German sausages and beer, respectively, those two boat anchors wouldn't be necessary unless it is used to keep the Land Rover under water. Who approved such an unnecessary expenditure? Maybe it's a cover up. A thumbs up for the extra afford and Vera's deep know how of Land Rover parts.

During my Service I watched a Landrover hit a heavy telephone post from solid wood (It had been caught in a ditch, invisible below the cut grass and couldn't return to the road), and drive through! You couldn't see any damage, except where the end of the post hit the roof, when coming down again!

Todays media warp the reality: it is all displayed in minutes but it is a product of weeks of hard work, not to mention years of practice and experience. Looking good here in us when mechanic remove bolts and reinstall the bolts they mark them with a marker so they Know it was torque, when I put new transmission and clutch in my 2005 jeep wrangler I could not get it in gear because I for got to torque me clutch down so I had to drop transmission again and torque them now runs good , I wasn't happy bout that

I’ll second that. Rust can’t hide from a scaler, so be prepared for it to be worse than you thought. A wire brush if not used thoroughly ( unlike Christian )will actually polish the rust scale and leave it in place. The scaler will either get back to sound steel or create a hole.
