6:15 I believe that Quebec in 1960 had the highest birthrate of any Canadian, and then after the quiet revolution it had the lowest birthrate of any province in 1970. So Quebec saw a much more extreme change than everywhere else in Canada.

Happy Birthday Verdy! Interesting lyrics for children. Thank you for sharing a bit of your culture with us. I think some governments (not the church) are now giving incentives to have children. My Birthday is on September 16th. 🎂🎉

Pretty wild song! Sounds a little like an Irish trad tune. If this were turned into an English song it would ruffle a lot of feathers and probably would have been banned long ago. Thanks for playing this and happy birthday!
@marinanguish99287 ай бұрын
You may be interested to know that the musician/channel The Stylites has done two English version of the song, which stayed true to the basic message the lyrics conveyed while still keeping the rhythm and being musically pleasing. Not 100% on board with how everything was translated, but it was mostly an excellent job.

Thanks for that glimpse inside Quebecois. Sounded like Cajun at the end. Guess when people moved into towns they didn’t children to help work the land, or even have room for them.

I add my Birthday Wishes! Moved to Montreal from Regina in 1970. I was 19. Spent 4 years. It was "interesting". My great annoyance was that I started learning French in Grade 4. The people in Montreal could understand me but I had no clue what they were saying in response! Quebecoise is a different language.... Still, they were kind to me and tolerant.

Bonne anniversaire. I love to hear the French canadian. When I visited Bretagne ca. 1981 there were a lot of French Canadians there. Apparently a lot of them have Breton ancestry. I remember wondering a lot about what they were saying because they also shortened everything. "Psq" meant parce que if I remember well. I had French in school for 6 years and could manage well with regular French, but Quebecois was a whole other level.... Really like the song!

My grandfather was French-Canadian from a large family with more than 20 children between the same husband and wife, the reason passed down to me was that Canada was paying families additional money for each child in order to help build the population. That's not to say that there's anything wrong with large families. The song suggests (to me) that changing values on family life replaced the joy of raising children with the quick thrill of casual sex.

Happy Birthday!! While I normally only watch your videos reacting to things I'm already familiar with (mostly Classic Rock & top-charts) I'm glad I watched this, which was unknown to me but quite enjoyable both musically and in the message. Also, was there a tribute to the Benny Hill Theme in the last 30 seconds of that instrumental ending?? It sounded like it to me. I now suspect you may be rather more Based than I previously had any reason to credit you as. Awesome!

At 2:22 when you explain the "shortcuts" of the French language (Quebec version), there are also shortcuts in the English translation. It says: "you don't know what you're going to do", which could also be written as follows: "you do not know what you are going to do". “Slang” is the English equivalent of “joual”, ou "argot" en bon français. So happy birthday Verdy, best wishes and success in your studies.

My father came from an English speaking family that is smaller, him being an only child and his parents having only a few siblings. It was a fun song, that we are an accident and the reference to a 3 and a half as an apartment that I think is only in Quebec.
