I was waiting for this to hit KZbin. Saw the premiere on t.v. I love football/ NFL. But when stories like these come to light.. it transcends the game. It’s more close to home. It’s more then a sport. After watching this the first time you reevaluate your own problems. Vern all I have to say is much respect to your perseverance. A good player.. a greater man. Salute.

I never knew this deep and amazing story. Big shout out to Brian and Sharlene. All I know is they were soooo proud when big brother signed to Buffalo. I was proud to be cool with siblings of a real life NFL player. Salute Vernon Turner. Staten Islands and Curtis HS under appreciated legend and icon. And shoutout to Coach Oliveiri. He was my science teacher, and he absolutely the coolest and funniest/ funnest , and definitely most effective teacher I've ever known. ❤. J.Hensley

I remember seeing the highlight of his punt return at Tampa Bay when it first happened in the 80s. It was a big deal on Staten Island and to me as this was the first of my contemporaries that I saw make it to the Big Show in any sport from S.I. He was an outstanding sprinter as well as All-City Quarterback at Curtis H.S. Only by chance did I find this documentary as I searched to see if the punt return highlight was posted. What I found was something so much greater and inspirational. Peace to you and your family brother V.Turner!

Crazy. I can remember you dealing with some of this. I only knew you while you were in junior high but we had similarities related to the maturity to needed to be leaders in our households due to issues our parents were facing. I am really glad you created success from it.
