Manzer's blood sample from his previous exam was lost in the mail so our vet made arrangements to collect another sample. During the exam, our vet was able to find the location of Manzer's pain. We are still waiting for the results from the blood draw, but are very thankful that we have a diagnosis for the source of Manzer's pain.

My 2 yr old filly had an back injury, unwitnessed. She presented with ataxia & it was scary. After a stay at UC Davis Veterinary Clinic for a few days to stabilize their diagnosis was inconclusive (given steroids for inflammation & took a blurry X-Ray with a halter ring close to the Axis/Atlas). After I got her home, she looked like her back was ‘out,’ which was obvious by the way she walked. The Chiropractor I used to work for agreed her neck/back needed adjustment and ‘soft’ adjusted her. I found a Sport Horse Vet Chiropractor (traveling) that adjusted her once and it helped SO much! I followed up with PT (Horse PT consult & homework). We all assumed she was running, flipped and fell on her croup with her neck twisted. I was renting pasture on a country road & had some mischief take place & ended up putting a lock on the gate. I didn’t ride her because I wanted her to have time to heal. She went on to do so well! I had to sell her because my daughter was in college, but I followed up on her & she went on to be ridden. I’m sorry that your little guy got 😞. It looks like you have a very thorough Vet❣️

I had a colt injure a tendon in the top of his neck, he was carrying his head kind of sideways, scared me to death. I thought he had broke his neck. After x rays and vet bills it was a treatable tendon injury thank God. So rehab, rest and pain management for several months. Then he was good to go.

Your veterinarian graduated from Minnesota? That's a very good school. As I recall, he was able to pick stuff off the ground before the grain bucket incident; now he can't or doesn't want to. Sounds more & more like soft tissue. Banamine would help pain like that. I don't know if an equine chiropractor or body worker would work on a youngster but I might look into it. Chin up! :)

@@Runningfromtheherd yes truly I cannot recommend it highly enough! Mind you if he misaligned a vertebrae he needs a chiropractor. I have seen wonders happen with this. Horses avoiding saddles, bucking, uneven gait instantly fixed. I see a chiropractor for whiplash and he makes such a difference. But back to acupuncture. As I said my late hubby was a vet and we had a dog in a car accident broke 3 legs and pelvis. Sent him to a big practice for repair as my hubby was undergoing chemo. 18 months later he came back to us as a hopeless case to be put down. He.could only hobble, hind leg crossing inside ynable to weight bear properly, front legs painful and just bearing. He only had one good back leg. The owner loved him so much. We did research and implanted gold chips on acupuncture points... Really simple, insert an 18g needle about 5mm under skin and drop the gold chip in. It constantly stimulates. 6 months later that dog came in walking on all fours, could stand on hind legs to say hello. X rays showed all the bony spicules dissolved in joints... Just an absolute miracle. Still remember his name - Bilbo!

At 7:15 DOC TOUCHED ALIGNMENT & FOAL TWICHED LIKE IT WAS PAINFUL. Think u found main part of the problem. That's why hes kicking that leg so much...maybe hes trying to rub & strech out his pain. As we do ourselves. Love how much u care for ur furry family members.

With this being a possible tendon injury to the neck, my first thought goes back to that bucket that scared him and he went arse over tea kettle. And like humans who sprain their ankle or knee, it just needs time for that tendon to heal. Another "good" thing, if you can call it that in the middle of all this, is with all the attention he gets from everyone and from the vets, that will help him stay calm when he is older from all the handling that is being done at this stage. The only time you might see a difference is this coming Spring, when his hormones kick in when the mares come into season. And at that point, a lot of defining what is right and wrong, will have to be reinforced gently but firmly. And teaching him to lead while he is still on Nika, would be, and is, the time I start lead training and voice training. Like, 'Walk On' and 'Whoa', and when they get it correct I make a cluck sound or a clicker. This really helps when you start working with them while they grow up before backing. Side passing I start as a yearling. Only because their muscles and bones are still developing, and I work on the walk on and whoa more and I only work the Sidepassing for a few minutes. A couple of steps either way, and that ends the training session. Just what I've experienced when working with foals and yearlings. Right now I have 2 in for backing, and I had helped one of them be born, and watched the other. Best Regards from Ontario, Canada, Jenn.

With his little bucket on the fence, could you continue to lower it an inch or so, as he tolerates it, to get him gradually stretching without him noticing? One of my twins had CP with dry tight leg muscles, leg braces, so the gradual games worked to loosen thing up, like Jolly Jumper. Just a thought.

Honestly When I saw his reaction initially I was thinking chiropractic. I had a friend that had a foal get real listless and stopped moving around. She was checked for all kinds of stuff then a good Chiropractor friend cam e over and took one look at her and said he wanted to check her out. Sure enough her back was out so bad that she probably could have died just because she was in so much pain that she would't do anything but stand there. After one session she immediately started improving. The chiropractor came out afew more times and she was back to her normal self in less than a work week. We had no clue what she did to be that messed up but she is now a happy healthy beautiful mare.

Chosen Pariah I had a chiropractor out too but after he healed a little bit and was more comfortable. I’ve injured a muscle in my back and there’s no way I was going to a chiropractor until it felt better, it was too sore to touch let alone going through an adjustment. I didn’t want him to associate his back being touched with pain.

Is there such a thing as a horse masseuse? Can horses feel the effects of liniments? ( Icy Hot, Tiger Balm, etc.) How about pain or analgesic patches? I’m grabbing at straws, but relief and healing can’t come fast enough. 💕☮️🙏
