The only Disney canon Inquisitor who would give Jerec a decent fight is Trilla Suduri, a.k.a. the Second Sister from Jedi Fallen Order. But the rest are weak sauce fodder who aren't worthy to even kiss his boots. The Grand Inquisitor being his heavily bastardized rip-off.

This was a really fun video! Haven't seen Jerec used since Jensaarai pitted him against Kreia all those years ago. Makes me feel hella old. Looking forward to more of this Malgus marathon. @@Wright805 Jerec was never stated officially to be a form 2 specialist by any source that I know of, so it's pure speculation whether he attained knowledge of the form after or before he became an Inquisitor, I reckon his original style was Niman learning Makashi when he was tasked with hunting down Jedi to hone his skills with the blade and provide an edge over jedi whom preferred other styles is what I guess is how he built his style however we'll never know now.

I do not dissagree with your verdict, however, I think the overall assessment of why is not flawless. Form II is NOT a poor choice against Djem So. It is that Djem So is the only traditional form where a similarly capable Master practitioner -can- beat a Makashi Master. Djem SO is grounded, steady, and relentless, and like Makashi likes to make linear attack sequences rather than rotational/circular ones. It is a poor choice when there is a significant physical mismatch between the Makashi practictioner and the Djem-so weilding opponent (Anakin/Dooku), OR where there is a significant skill gap (With the Makashi user being the novice). Makashi is highly advantageous against Shii-Cho, Soresu, and Juyo applications built upon the foundations of these two forms. My main concern isn't the outcome: I do very much thing Malgus would defeat Jerec 1 on 1, but I think based on your analysis of what Malgus' style actually is, a Juyo approach built from a combination of Shii-Cho and Soresu/Shein defense sequences, I think translating that to "It's so similar to Djem So that it is the same thing" is a flawed argument. Makashi is -optimized- to handle that exact kind of a style set up, not disadvantaged to it. What Makashi failed against with Anakin Skywalker was that Anakin brought the complete packadge: One of the absolute top-teir lightsaber power houses, with a raw force edge of note, AND a significant physicality edge on top of that, WITH the successful deception of a style swap to Djem So. A master level (Anakin Skywalker, Luke, Vader, etc) Djem So user -can- bring down a skilled Makashi user. But your analysis specifically provides evidence this IS NOT what Malgus is. His style is built on the exact form foundations that Makashi is designed to dismantle. Not that I believe Jerec brings enough skill/endurance to the table to leverage this enough for a win against a veteran like Malgus. Jerec would be "Just another Sith Lord" and Malgus has chewed through worse things than Jerec in his career.

This also ignores Jerec's Force Destruction ability that Malgus would not have either a counter for or knowledge of its existence. The technique is powerful enough to incapacitate a Jedi Master. Also Jerec's not really 'just another Sith Lord, he was comparable in power to Darth Vader himself, though not as strong. In a physical brawl Malgus could most likely overpower Jerec, but this ignores Jerec's preferred method of incorporating his Force abilities against aggressive opponents to hit them point blank with Force Destruction, then capitalize on the paralysis. I'm not sure Malgus would take this victory.

What you guys said pretty much nails it. And personally I think this is a good argument against him beating Dooku. He is not bringing what Anakin brought to the table on board the invisible hand his style is not the foil to Dooku that I’ve seen many people claim. While I haven’t completed the play through nor is there a guide listing what he is capable of more precisely.Malgus still doesn’t seem to have the power to out right over whelm the count in a wizards duel.he is less precise at this time then I’ve seen him previously and we’ve seen what that means against the count before. It’s not impossible for him to win but I still favor the Count however If Dooku doesn’t bring his a game he is in trouble.

Jerec is recognized as having a degree of power and skill comparable to Darth Vader, he's certainly very knowledgeable and skilled, and is an extremely impressive Force-wielder to invent his own Force-power and telepathically overpower another Jedi-master class figure. Jerec's own skills were primarily focused on political scheming, personal power and esoteric capabilities. He never invested near the same efforts into combat skills and traits as Darth Malgus did, or the latter accumulated across 4 decades of fighting both Jedi and Sith Lords. Force destruction is impressive, not it's not innately a lethal power, as both Yun and Bocaseca did demonstrate the power and it never killed somebody with it. Also, Qu Rahn is not unremarkable as a Jedi, yet I view him more of a mid-class Jedi Master and nowhere near the league as figures like Mace Windu, Exar Kun or Darth Malgus. Force-destruction on paralyzed Rahn, as the Jedi had sufficient depths to minorly resist the power; he wasn't killed outright by it as Exar Kun did to Odan Urr. Additionally, Darth Malgus lived in an era of active Sith Sorcerers and Jedi Consulars, whom would have pursued and applied powers even more esoteric or lethal than Force Destruction. Malgus also had a brawler's mentality towards fighting: adapt, endure, overcome. Unlike Darth Vader against free-form fighters or other intellectual-focused characters, I doubt that Malgus would be phased by encountering any unique or exotic Force-power unless than have the capacity to be instant-kills, against him. Otherwise, Jerec's most prominent Force-powers other relatively consistent for High-council-class Jedi or Sith, and wouldn't really impact Darth Malgus too far. Also, Jerec's fighting skills, whether he practices Makashi or not, did involve straight-up confrontations with lightsabers instead of roving-retreats or multi-weapon assaults. Jerec evidently aimed to check superior or comparable martial-artists and would lean on his Force-powers to defeat them. Similar to Darth Baras across the Old Republic comics, or the SWTOR boss-fight. Yet if either Darth Baras or Jerec encountered a figures whom could moderately resist their powers, or had sufficient martial skill to out-fight and break-through their own skills, they could wind-up in a lot of trouble. Even in Jerec's last duel with Kyle Katarn, after Kyle tossed a lightsaber back to Jerec, the wounded, weakened and exhausted Inquisitor made a running charge at Katarn instead of trying to escape or waiting for Kyle to attack him. Darth Malgus could contend with Jerec's combative Force-powers, although if they were each leading an army, Jerec could out-strategize Darth Malgus or perhaps intimidate any underlings on Malgus' side to swap over to him. But one-on-one: a) Malgus is a born fighter and has more invested in combat and duelling than Jerec has. b) Jerec prefers to fight head-to-head instead of back-stab or ambush (from accounts and presentations of him against Qu Rahn and Kyle Katarn). c) Malgus is heavy-handed, adaptable and can beat superior fighter to himself while Jerec is a conventional, precise, middle-weight whom only focuses on contending with swordmasters. d) while Makashi and strength-oriented fighters have a particular history, I don't believe that style would be effective against heavily-armoured Jedi or Sith with some of their body's covered by extra protection. Plus, adaptable brawler-type fighters would change-up their rhythm, tempo, and timing; or take lighter cuts and keep fighting unless impaled through the heart or decapitated. e) And the important point. Djem and Makashi do have certain traits that are beneficial or detrimental to individual practitioners. However, Styles do not make somebody strong; people make a style strong. This is a maxim that is very true in fictional or real-world martial arts, since as many as 100 people can perform the same moves, or copy legendary fighters; but they would lack the authentic depths and efforts which masters have invested into their own skills. Also, if say a Knight-level Djem So fighter duelled with a Master-class Makashi specialist, the latter would contend well but not reliably win. Looking at styles or tools is significant, but comprehending the characters of Malgus or Jerec matters a lot more than simple "rock-paper-scissors." Malgus actual was ambushed by Aryn Leneer, successfully, and Jace Malcom in his lifetime. But Jerec prefers direct confrontations, and if he's fighting alone, the Inquisitor prefers to apply his Force-powers after a lightsaber bout. Jerec would likely confront Malgus head-on, starting off with his lightsaber and conventional Force-powers or immediately trying to cast Force-Destruction. Malgus himself might be stunned by Force-destruction, or he'd overwhelm Jerec with more than the Inquisitor can handle and keep that pressure growing; leaving Jerec with no room to do more than a rapid, half-power Force-destruction which wouldn't impact Malgus very much. Or Darth Malgus may be able to martial his rage, since he is very much a pure Force-channelling instead of a specialized and efficient spell-caster, and break free of Force-destruction. Malgus himself prefers martial-combat as well, so he would avoid a "battle of the wizards" which would favour Jerec, and prevent Jerec from having any control over their battle. Do you disagree?

Jerec has some hax like Consume Essence and Force Destruction but Malgus pulls a Anakin vs Dooku on him. But if Jerec goes full Spanish Inquisition on Malgus, he stomps. To be fair, Anakin's defeat of Dooku wasn't so simple as Djem So overpowering Makashi. Dooku simply toyed with young Skywalker not taking their dual seriously until he found himself being caught on the back foot.

there's also the robotic arm, Dooku being 4 times Anakin's age, Anakin being one of the greatest Djem So Masters of his time(according to Dooku's own estimation in their final duel) Anakin literally being the Chosen one with an almost bottomless well of Force power to fuel himself once he tapped into his emotions. It's not as simple as 'Djem So defeats Makassi' which I think is a grave oversimplification and misreading of the events.

I agree I think most of people underestimate the count and form 2.he was fighting two on one for an extended period of time against younger stronger fighters of near equal skill with styles that complemented each other and made it difficult for Dooku to take full advantage of Makashi.Conner is the only one who I’ve heard say that Dooku would have one that fight even with things being so stacked against had certain things been slightly altered. We saw up to that point the count holding his own and out maneuvering both Kenobi and skywalker.

@@Redoren966 no, he very much was taking it seriously, just in two different ways. The first way was in having to constantly keep his emotions under control, try and keep Obi Wan and the Chancellor safe, get back to Padme and win the battle. He's very much taking it seriously. The second way is when he releases that lid off his emotions and taps into them for power. Then he is VERY seriously deciding to use everything to defeat Dooku. Anakin is not 'playing' that entire fight, he's very serious about the entire thing.

Great video, Jerec is definitely an underrated villain, so it's good to see him get some recognition! Although I do have to say that some of these force ability names are so corny! ’Force destruction’ and ’drain knowledge’ both sound like Pokemon moves to me! Idk, when it comes to force abilities relating to psychic attacks I prefer them to be more mysterious and a little more intuitive. Though I do recognise that they probably only have names like this for ease of use in video games like SWTOR and Dark Forces.

Considering it was both groups that got Marvel Star Wars 108 made and it got Star Wars Legends fans a table at Celebration Orlando and Celebration Chicago. Darth Malgus is my favorite Old Republic Sith Lord, and Jerec is one of my favorite underrated characters. I could NOT be happier for this match up. It seems like a lot of people sleep on Inquisitor Jerec, and even though I'm pretty sure Malgus wins this match in a very close scrape, the mere fact you think they're fair competition speaks volumes to Jerec's capabilities.

Good to see another video from ya'll. I'm not overly intrigued in either Malgus or Jerec as characters but I did enjoy the comparison of their skill sets. I have to ask, does anyone on Fanalysis plan to use Cal Kestis in the future? Jedi: Fallen Order is a fairly good game and, unlike most of Disney SW media, Cal's powers and skill set makes sense for the most part. (It's also the first time the Inquisitors actually feel like a credible threat.)

Unlikely, since none of them is interested in Disney trash. Granted, I agree JFO is good and is fairly respectful of the lore, but Cal is pretty unremarkable. He's a poorman Exar Kun with a lot of fallback options, but he's not powerful or skilled enough to really go against that many opponents. At best, he can cope and subvert them enough to escape, not much else.

That to me, does seem the most likely actual outcome, since Malgus would have no knowledge of Force Destruction's existence, no way to counter it and no reason to expect it was coming. The ability was enough to completely paralyze a Jedi Master that was capable of fighting six Dark Jedi at once and it was designed by Jerec as something to one day use against Vader or the Emperor.

@@wristofkings The problem with that is we've seen that Jerec can fire the ability at will, with little to no start up or prep time required. So Malgus would have to first close the distance, without Jerec using the ability, overpower Jerec's lightsaber skills pretty much instantly and cut him down in that first strike to prevent Jerec using it. If anything Malgus approach to combat likely makes him more susceptible to being hit with Force Destruction rather than less since his preferred method when dealing with a Force energy attack appears to be attempting to power through it, since he doesn't know Force Destruction exists, nor what it does, he doesn't have a counter for it. We also know that it can incapacitate someone of Master Level as it did to Rahn, who was powerful enough to take on all six of Jerec's band at once and even concerned Jerec when they meet in the novel they duel in. Also, Malgus doesn't appear to be comparable to Jerec as a Force user since we do know for a fact that Vader is far stronger than Malgus and Jerec is directly stated to be 'comparable to Darth Vader' in power, though 'not quite as strong as Darth Vader' which does put Jerec as more powerful in the Force than Malgus, based on who they can be compared to in terms of power. Further Malgus is in an era when the Sith were legion, his power in relation to later generations when there were far fewer Dark Side users to concentrate the Force into is also something that has to be taken account of, as Darth Bane points out. Malgus was not able to immediately incapacitate a non force user human male, who was pushing through his Force lightning and had to expel additional effort to throw back said single non force user, that's actually evidence against Malgus being especially powerful compared to later generation Force users. Malgus likewise doesn't demonstrate much aptitude or care for powers not directly fueled by rage and blood lust, which makes him a prime conduit for Jerec's ability to feed off these emotions while simultaneously using his own ability to suppress Malgus's own connection to the Force somewhat. I don't think Malgus can incapacitate Jerec before Jerec can fire Force Destruction as to do so would require a multitude of things to go right for Malgus while simultaneously going wrong for Jerec and Jerec not even attempting to use Force Destruction at any point, because all Jerec has to do is connect with Force Destruction and that's game set match. In conclusion, Malgus is a very potent physical and lightsaber combatant and in a purely physical encounter, Malgus would very likely defeat Jerec, however, in terms of the Force, Jerec is more powerful than Malgus, has demonstrated more advanced techniques(In his use of pure Dark Side sphere to dissolve Spore's tendrils on Ithor with no apparent effort), Force Drain which actively feeds on an opponents negative emotions and lends their strength to Jerec, which would be greatly amplified against a Dark Side opponent like Malgus, Force Destruction which has been directly shown to be capable of completely paralyzing a Jedi Master that had his guard up for Jerec to kill him(this was Qu Rahn) that Jerec invented Force Destruction and kept it unique to his immediate followers also means that Malgus would have neither the knowledge of the ability's existence, or any method to counter it at all. That Jerec can fire this technique at will, with again, seemingly little to no effort or prep time at full force means that he can use such a technique in a pitched lightsaber battle at close range(as he did against Rahn) or at a comfortable medium range(as he did against Katarn on Ruusan when he destroyed the entire dock holding the Sulon Star) These abilities change the dynamic greatly, Malgus is almost certainly the superior duelist, but his performance in the realm of Force power has been shown to end with him under a mountain as rather than dodge a Force attack, he appears to attempt to power through it, which would guarantee an immediate end to the battle with Force Destruction since it would immediately incapacitate him(the technique WAS designed by Jerec for eventual use against Vader and the Emperor) leaving him completely defenseless for Jerec to dispatch with his lightsaber as he did to Qu Rahn aboard the Vengeance. The conclusion seems logical on the outcome of such a confrontation if all the evidence is analyzed. Malgus doesn't have knowledge of a decisive ability of Jerec's, nor the ability to counter it in any way. Jerec, could and would employ this ability and based on Malgus method of fighting a hit would be guaranteed due to Malgus preference for closing in for aggressive melee and a hit means the end of Malgus, since he can't defend against it, doesn't know it exists or what it does and we know that it can completely paralyze or outright kill high tier Force Users instantly, which means all of Malgus physical strength and skill with the lightsaber effectively cease to exist as factors.

First off, while I admit Malgus' performance against Jace Malcom wasn't exactly sterling I'd say it represents a really strong showing for Malcom rather than a poor one for (very pre-prime) Malgus. Dude not only survived Malgus' wrath but tanked a thermal detonator at point blank range, that's pretty impressive. This same Malgus was also kicking Satele's ass pretty decisively beforehand until Jace bought her some breathing room. Either way, it matters not if we're taking Malgus at his prime. By the time of Deceived he was easily capable of fatal Force lightning and more, and who knows how much stronger he got during his False Emperor and Emperor's Wrath stage. He could achieve a zen-like stage of rage (arguably the Sith equivalent of "One-ness"), could wield some advanced abilities like Force Maelstrom, etc. While he may not have achieved the level of knowledge and focused power that Jerec could with Force Destruction, he is an expert at chaining his Force abilities with physical attacks on a dime and could easily use them to unbalance less dynamic fighters like Jerec, whose response to any threat on his level was to deflect and counter with his Force powers, leaving a short but noticeable opening that someone as experienced as Malgus could read and exploit. If Jerec does manage to hit Malgus with Force Destruction (which is a pretty likely possibility), I'm not even sure it would bring a cybernetic tank like him down. Pay mind this was the same Sith Lord that had been telekinetically blasted through the side of a cliff and crushed under tons of rock and not only survived, but engaged and slew two Jedi shortly after. If anyone can power through the effects of Force Destruction it would be someone like Malgus, whose sheer rage and determination along with durability is utterly insane. Granted, this is big speculation on my part, as Jerec never got to test that ability against Vader (whose power in the Force is greater than Malgus', though not overwhelming so). And you do have a good point about Consume Essence amping Jerec's own power in this situation. But overall I'd put Jerec's odds at victory at around 3/10. He's not going to be stomped and he does have a dangerous trump card he can pull but good luck trying against someone as relentless as Malgus, who is in every other way a more viable and experienced combatant than Jerec.

Hm... I'd favor Mara. Force Sever is a pretty broken power on Sunrider's side, but she is a fairly average lightsaber duelist and doesn't have the sheer variety of tactical trickery and weaponry that's Mara's bread and butter, nor is she as fast or skilled in physical combat. Split decision. Yoda is obviously the better lightsaber duelist by some distance but this is more likely decided by the Force and if that's the case I see Vitiate overwhelming Yoda's tutaminis defenses in the same way that Sidious did. It's a contest that favors Yoda in the early fight but if it drags out the Emperor wins. Kun has what it takes to best Shan as a lightsaber duelist for sure, but the Force battle is tricky. I'm not sure if Satele's tutaminis can tank an amulet blast, but we've seen her catch/absorb lightsaber energy with it so it's not outside the realm of possibility. Still favoring Kun for the most part. Brand's an intriguing choice, there hasn't really been enough analysis of him for a comparison but he's obviously pretty powerful considering his performance in Dark Empire (my least favorite Legends/EU period). No vote on this one yet. I'd say the Jedi take it as Legends Anakin has a known resistance to Force drain and can speedblitz Nihilus, while Kenobi has the endurance and skill to deal with Sion long enough to start lopping off all his limbs and incapacitate him Black Knight-style. Both Jedi are better swordsmen than their opponents so I don't expect much of a different outcome if the scenario were reversed. Another really intriguing idea. Lumiya would take it in a head-to-head duel because her lightwhip is OP as fuck as an offensive tool compared to Sadow's primitive Force-embued sword, but Naga is a powerful sorcerer and would likely best her if this turned into a wizards' duel for whatever reason. The latter doesn't seem very likely though as Lumiya is a more passive/utility Force user who would rather let the whip do the fighting. Caedus would overwhelm Cade as he is more powerful as a Force user and a more well-rounded lightsaber duelist who could keep up with Grandmaster Luke in his prime (i.e. a fucking demigod). Cade's got some fairly hax abilities in his arsenal and can definitely contend but I don't see that overcoming Caedus' depth of knowledge and skill.

This is a reasonable point. Since Jerec's Force destruction is specifically tailored to deal with powerful Force wielders since only he and his immediate followers know the techinique it doesn't have a counter or any way Malgus would know about it, plus it only has to paralyze him for a few seconds and that's pretty much a win for Jerec. It can bring a Jedi Master to his knees and Jerec can fire it off point blank with little to no difficulty. This also doesn't factor in Jerec's ability to dampen other's connection to the Force.

They had a great chance there and blew it. Also, Jerec's master was not really known as a great melee fighter either so I can really see why he would not put much effort there. It would also get in the way of his research ;--).

Again, this is largely due to the game limitations of his debut. DFII was released in 1997, Malgus appeared in 2009. You can't really compare gameplay and cutscenes from two vastly different eras and expect accurate results. I'm quite interested in TCW grievous as a combatant despite knowing he can't hold a candle to the one in CW 2003. Most if not all versus series involving grievous use the legends version of him, and while I totally understand why, I would still like to see TCW grievous be used in a versus series, to understand what his general competancy in a fight if nothing else. is he in the same league as jedi council masters like Shaak Ti and Plo Koon? I think any answer would be purely speculative since it's not like the developers ever went into such specifics or determined/showed how much of space they controlled. However I'd personally argue it was either on par with or possibly even surpassing that of the republic. The republic were struggling against the sith and had revan not been betrayed and joined the light, defeating malek, they would have defeated the republic after a while. The star forge over the course of the war was churning out more and more ships increasingly and developing new weapons and such at an unprecedented rate. I believe they most likely controlled a large portion of the outer rim and the edge of the unknown regions closest to the known galaxy and where slowly pushing into the mid/inner rim. It would simply be a matter of time until coruscant and the republic fall and with the star forge on their side I don't see it taking all that long.

I’m gonna have to disagree with you, Evan. I do believe that all of your individual rulings are accurate, I believe the outcome would be rather different. Malgus would be the aggressor, hammering Jerik with lightsaber attacks. Jerik would quickly become overwhelmed by the duel, and would then use his force abilities to off balance Malgus. Once a force duel began between the two, Jerik would have more head space to analyze Malgus and resolve to use dun moch and telepathic manipulation to amplify and the feed on Malgus’s rage. Once this was done, Jerik would employ force destruction and defeat Malgus. It should be noted that force destruction world probably not kill Malgus outright, but it would leave him wide open.

When he was found by the Inquisitorious during the reign of the Empire, he was only allowed to live because his gifts as aMiraluka, combined with his scholarly background meant that he could find the rumored Valley of the Jedi. He chose to join them, and over the years as an Inquisitor, most of his energy was dedicated to seeking the Valley of the Jedi, during a time when Jedi did next to nothing, and Sith were believed extinct, save for Palpatine and Vader. Most Inquisitors were too weak for the Jedi to have bothered with, and were often decades behind in their training. Jerec being a glorified librarian was still vastly superior to most Inquisitors, and that says so very little when the Jedi were so rare. Malgus was a living Terminator with Force powers, born in a peak period of history where Jedi / Sith combat was the norm, and in order to survive, one had to be the best at destroying their opponents. Malgus is a juggernaut. Jerec was a C+ grade of Jedi-turned-Inquisitor, in a field of D- peers, and eventually crossed paths with an A- who would mature into an S+. Malgus had to be an A+ on his worst days, when anyone less than a B was as good as dead.

Vader after a very intense fight. Korr in a mismatch. He is slightly under Ventress/Marek level. Katarn in a slugging match. Scourge is an overall more skilled combatant and can take Sion out of the fight. Sidious stomps Kreia in a duel, not even close. Without an amp from battle meditation, Vos contends but ultimately loses.
